Thanks to a recently held concert performance, I was introduced to a small sampling of what this congregation offers to the community. Besides the on-going concert series, they have a clothing ministry, monthly dollar breakfasts, a place for various groups to meet, and so much more takes place to provide support towards the needs of others. In today's climate of dwindling church membership, it is key to find other ways to stay active outside of the weekly church service. Central Presbyterian is doing a fine job with this challenge.

Usually, when I come by, it is because I am just in town for a vacation. Sometimes I am here for a happy occasion, like a wedding or a baptism. Most recently, I was here for a very difficult funeral. In every situation, the priests, the staff, and the whole community have been amazingly positive and supportive. My family has been very fortunate to have the St. Sebastian parish in our lives.

St. Stanislaus has always been iconic with its position on Smallman with golden accents that shine in the sun... especially now as you drive down past The Terminal! The spires have always look... truncated... and now with the history lesson - I fully understand it. The ACME Banana Factory next door had an explosion due to a spark with the ethylene gas in 1936. Launching bananas everywhere, the church had some major damage to the structure which forced them to restructure and thus having some wonky appearances. Even funnier, in 1990, the church was doing renovations and found petrified bananas inside - 54 years after the explosion!!! To this day, they have a banana fest to celebrate the fruitful past! Ornate, gorgeous, and well kept - this church is literally stunning.. to the point that I cannot believe that the doors are just wide open for the public. Praise God that they are so willing to share the beauty with the public so openly.

The interior almost seems small compared to how large it looks looming up from the street, but that adds to the charm of this gorgeously decorated masterpiece! It is a wonderful place to just stop in and admire the beauty, but it is also a wonderful place to spend time in quiet prayer or attend a Mass. Their Masses are reverent and moving. If you are in the area, definitely check it out!

At the time we attended, masks were mandatory for the event. It is huge. Rumor has it there was a bowling alley inside years ago. The outdoor venue was also very beautiful for a wedding or any event. There is so much history and so many intricate details. Since the church is so large, there is ample seating for big crowds. Their choir and brass band put on a great show. I can't speak to their church services, but I would like to stop back in to attend a service. If you ever have a chance to stop in here, you definitely should.

St. Paul's United Methodist Church is a Christian parish that, according to its website, invites…read morepeople of every age, race, ethnicity, economic status, family status, sexual orientation, gender identity, diverse ability, and legal status. I have never participated in any worship services or ministry activities here, but I did recently visit the church once for a community fundraiser. I sat in the fellowship hall to eat a meal. The area was spacious and clean, and the event organizers interacted very courteously with me. I greatly appreciated their service to the community.

This was a nice church to hold an event in. Nevertheless, the venue was great for an event that I helped set up for for a friend. The church, like many in Pittsburgh, has great character, with older stone walls and wooden structures that are pleasing to the eye. A con is that the church unfortunately didn't have AC- this was troublesome on a hot June day (I don't know how church goers handle this in the summer). Further, there was only a tiny parking lot in the back, leaving a lot of people to try to find street parking in North Oakland (which is typically a nightmare).
