My children have learned a lot at this school. This school has a great circulum. It's a small school setting which means more focus on the children. I appreciate the principals new safety procedures and her efforts and my first impression of the school beginning with the office manager has been outstanding as shes also very knowledgeable. Both of our children attended CKS from TK through 8th grade, and the love, guidance, and strong educational foundation they received truly shaped who they are today. We enrolled our daughter for third grade after coming from another Catholic school. Our experience has been wonderful. We really appreciate the tenure that the teaching staff have. Our daughter's third grade teacher, Ms. Rosalie is an alumnus herself and has put all of her children through the school. There are multiple clubs for children to enjoy. I like the high quality of education they have. I also like the values they teach every day. My daughter is happy to attend there. All the teachers are very polite and helpful. The front desk manager is very helpful as well and very kind. The school is small and that helps to maintain a better environment where everyone knows each other. The middle school students interact really well with the lower grade students. I also love that they pray every day and they teach them that God is always first. We transfered to CTK last year and it was the best choice for our child. Our third grade teacher (Mrs. Rosalie) is incredibly dedicated and professional. She was always there for us as we learned the ropes of our new school. Christ the King School is such a good school for little ones. It is probably the only school in Los Angeles to be Montessori and Catholic. It's been such a blessing to have my little one start in Transitional Kindergarten when he was 4 years old. Ms. Holeva and Mrs. Hager received us with open hearts and so does Mrs. Anderson. There is a great sense of community where parents can participate and so many beautiful religious events throughout the year. There is morning assembly everyday and mass on Fridays. For the faith, the community and the academic focus, I couldn't recommend more Christ the King School. read more

I attended this school from 1-8th grd. Several teachers were abusive - yes, abusive - and cruel towards students, most notably Mrs. Chung. She seemed to have something against her Hispanic students, of which there were few, and especially towards her Hispanic female students. There was a time she made us all go on "lockdown" and put our heads down on our desks because one of her male students - who she had a strong favoritism towards - had posted an Instagram story calling her bipolar. She responded to this by acting bipolar. I recall trying to ask her a question about her instructions, as they were very irregular for a normal school day, and she snapped at me saying, "You don't need to be talking to me right now." It was also strange that she looked at students' social media accounts and instructed students not to "follow" her until the school year was over. She had students' phone numbers and was very close to some students, while her "least favorites" - the Hispanic kids - were treated very harshly for no discernible reason. She would over share details about her personal life, her marriage, and her son, and even went around once telling the front row of girls - again, of course only the Hispanic girls - which one of us she thought would end up being in a bad marriage, like hers. Additionally, I was sexually harassed by other students during my time at this institution. Other female students would grope my behind, constantly because they knew I did not like it, and no action was taken against them. In contrast, I was threatened with expulsion or suspension once because I had gotten in a physical altercation with another student during which I pulled her hair and she slapped me. No action was taken against the students that sexually harassed me, not even just verbally, but constantly putting their hands on me and groping me, even as I would beg them to stop and even as I expressed to teachers how uncomfortable this made me. This was a constant thing from 6th grd to 8th grd. My bodily autonomy was violated and no action was taken. Teachers I told seemed annoyed by my "sensitivity," and were more annoyed by me not liking being sexually abused by my peers than by them doing so. There was at least one other girl I knew and was best friends with who was in the same situation and had this happening to her. She was also Hispanic, I think it's important to note. Male students would also prey on vulnerable female students, making sexual comments towards us and if we protested, we were told by our other female peers we were being too sensitive, and teachers would simply verbally tell them to stop, while laughing as if it were just a funny thing that couldn't be helped. There was an assembly once where boys and girls were separated and girls were told that boys were looking up our skirts as we went up the stairs, so we should wear shorts underneath our clothes and wear longer skirts to prevent this. The boys, during this assembly, watched a movie. There was a very misogynistic culture at this school at the time I attended. I do not think this has improved. To sum it up, if you don't want your child to be molested by their peers and nothing to be done about it, don't send them to this school. If you are Latino, or if your child is, do NOT send them to this school. read more

I am a CKS alumni. Having attended this school from 4-8th grade I can 100% guarantee you this is not a worthy investment of your time and money. This school prides itself for being an "exemplary" institution of foundational learning, yet, its approach to teaching is as outdated as its facilities and textbooks. The students who attend this school are sheltered and shallow; Your child won't care that they're attending a "catholic school." I was severely bullied by my peers and non-credentialed teachers (*cough* *cough* especially, Ms. Nancy Kim Chung) and the principal Ms. Anderson didn't reprimand anyone EXCEPT ME: THE STUDENT who WAS BULLIED. This is not a welcoming space for students of color, as they lack sensitivity for BIPOC, not to mention there is no financial aid. As others had previously mentioned, your child won't receive any awards unless they're the teacher's favorite student (-for bringing them their daily Starbucks latte.) If you want a better, more privatized education, I'd highly recommend Holy Family or a local Charter School. (Save the money for your child's college fund...) read more

I'm reviewing my elementary/middle school on yelp. Weird. This is a good school. At least when I went here. We had a great pastor and principal and teachers who really prepared you for high school. Oddly, I felt that high school was easier than middle school in my freshman year. But my little cousin is going to this school now and I don't think they have the same quality education I got. He still acts and writes like a child, and he's in 7th grade. I had different teachers from him and all of the teachers I had left. I had some really good teachers. I guess the place is still good, but the vibe I'm getting from my younger cousin is just like "Uhh, when I was in 7th grade I didn't write like this," I don't know. It might just be me, but I feel the education quality has gone down. And in this middle school, I was a total dork and it kind of made me feel like shit. So I just don't like it much. I was a student at CKS from 2008-2017, Kindergarten through 8th Grade. I'd be lying if I didn't say that my childhood learning experience was fun at this school. At least for the most part. Christ the King was the learning community that I needed, with small classroom sizes and a Catholic discipline in terms of learning academically. Despite some incidents, Christ the King was exceptionally good to me. I made lifelong friends there, and my relationship with God and the Catholic faith really strengthened there. Graduating in 2017, I was highly judged by faculty at my decision in going to a public high school, since the norm at Catholic schools was heading straight to a prestigious, private Catholic high school straight after. Growing up Hispanic and low income, I knew that wasn't an option for me with $20-30k annual tuition that was the norm for these high schools. Going to a public high school, John Marshall High School, was the best decision I could have possibly made! I am now a full time student at UCLA with all costs covered, and I am more than thankful that I was able to be accepted to such a school from a public high school. Especially since certain members of the faculty told me it was close to impossible to accomplish these kinds of endeavors straight out of a public school. With this said, I wouldn't have been able to have the work ethic and values that I have today if it wasn't for Christ the King. Miss Rosalie, who I believe is still there today, I adored having you as my first grade teacher, thank you for pushing me to try harder and eventually seeing me succeed. Mrs. Lim and Ms. Alcantara, 3rd and 4th grade with you was certainly a time to remember, thank you for always being so understanding with me. Mrs. Castillo, I'll never forget what you did for me the last day of 5th grade, giving me the chance to redeem myself in terms of my math skills and managing me to get the Honor Roll, while telling me that I need to practice math over the summer. I adore you and wish you the best. Mrs. Chung, having you as my last teacher at my time in CKS was definitely a challenge, but I thank you for giving me so many opportunities because you knew that I wanted to succeed immensely. You put your trust in me for so many events, including refilling your morning coffee, I thank you for showing me how immensely crucial it is to persevere no matter what. I hope you're doing well. If you want to put your child in this institution, I would recommend it, even if it is a bit out of your budget. My mom worked so immensely hard just to pay the tuition for this school for 9 years considering our financial situation, but I'm very thankful she did. read more

Tuition is reasonable and financial assistance is available. The teachers are caring, yet firm. I'm really proud of the way the children of this school show respect to themselves and to others. The truth is that your child can come to this amazing school and not only learn to be polite and well mannered, but also receive a quality education for well below what your paying for day care. My son has been here at this school since 2014. I am a working single mom, and I could not have found a better place for my child. The relationships and connections that my son and I have become vital in our daily lives. From the principal, to the lunch lady, maintenance staff, and all the teachers there is a sense of community and family. There are small class settings, full focus PE, academic decathlon, choir, football, volleyball, basketball, track & field, for extra curricular activities, as well as dancing and private music lessons available to any and all who walk through the doors. Worst school ever! The principal is awful!! She only cares about money and people who kiss her ass. No matter how smart you child and A student all the way. If she don't like you. Your child will never get and awards, or place in the the decathlon. It will be given to another child that she prefers. There are some great teachers but the are like her puppets which is sad. When it comes to the safety of your forget it. The principal Mrs Anderson doesn't do anything about bullies.she hides anything bad happened no records or any kind of incident report. And yet your child suffers mentally. Mrs is Anderson is fake as transparent as plastic. I'm catholic 100% but after I see what the principal Mrs Anderson didn't do anything to protect my child from the bullying. I question what kind of catholic school is this, which should be practicing and teaching under the practices of catholic. There are other good schools you could put your child. The quality of education has decreased. To be honest it's a waste of money, you are only paying for what little 'security' this establishment can provide. For example, we did have an instance were in my 8th grade some peers brought drugs and alcohol. Can you imagine that? There were also some fights that did happen, in the bathroom & other more secluded areas. We also had to spend an hour at church every Wednesday. I know its a catholic school but it also become a huge waste of time, added the religion classes (every year) you have to learn on the side could be used to learn something that you can use in the real world, like economics, chemistry, biology, or computer science, you know real world stuff. The technology was extremely outdated, TV's from what i imagine to be from the 70's & 90's computers. There was one donates DVD/VHS player that would be rotated among the classrooms. The library is also struggling as I recall, There were books about puberty and anime that my class mates found that had very detailed images. Although we were about 13 can you imagine if an 8 year old were to have stumbled upon these books? Don't even get me started on the Textbooks, They are handed down year by year, and obviously some wear and tear occurs. Teens would write very vulgar and offensive things in the books. At the end of the year we would have to spend a whole day checking these textbooks, I mean we would get sand paper and clean off the edges & we would be fined for any additional damages towards the textbooks, although we would never get new textbooks the following year. Normally i wouldn't have a problem with this if it was a public school, but we pay tuition at this establishment that is far worse than the LAUSD, i truly believe. Many of my teachers used to be strict and demanding these teachers are soft, now require less. read more

This school is amazing and its in Hancock Park not silverlake My child has attended other catholic schools in LA and they had nowhere near the same quality as this school. I wasted a lot of other money on those schools...CTKS is a model school in my opinion. They have beyond excellent academics and use a variety of teaching . They are very advanced.My child is helping kids grades ahead of her at other schools with their homework. This school has very small class size so their is lots of individual teaching going on which is important. My child is not a number she is a child. My child LOVES the school, the staff, everything. They love her back too. The school is also very accomodating to fit my needs as well as my childs. We have no family but this school and parish had become our family and they treat us that way. The entire staff is amazing. I can mever thank them enough especially the proncipal Ruth Anderson she is amazing, honestly everyone is amazing. The vice principal, the teachers, after school teachers, secretaries, everyone. We are truly blessed to be a part of The Christ the King family. They have strong and competitive academics, discipline, athletics, enrichment programs and lots of love. My child is always complimented on her intelligence. This school makes achievers. I will tell you honestly this is the best elementary school in LA. read more

This is a wonderful Catholic school in every way. Chrome books are used for most subjects. The Montessori transitional kindergarten was added two years ago and it is one of the best I've seen. It's location is the corner of Vine and Melrose. A hidden treasure well worth visiting for your family. read more
