Harlem middle school, let me think... Well 2015 was 2014 and it was 2013. so what should I talk…read moreabout? Well recently I've been doing a bunch of research on the building found out that it was being used as the high school before it was actually a middle school. With millions of kids that I've gone in and out of that school year by year by year! I mean I basically mean nothing to the school by how many people go through it. I'm sure there's going to be people looking at this review in 2020 and stuff thinking that it was boring in 2015 but for us everything is getting better and better and better, well kind of. We've gotten computers, Internet, and my favorite, student wifi! But there could be looking at this review that went to school here in 1980 seeing how different it is. Besides all of that, The teachers are getting nicer and nicer. I've had mean teachers last year that it is getting replaced by nicer teachers! it's becoming a better place and just being awesome. I remember coming into seventh grade and being scared of everything, but now it's just like whatever. Now the computers are getting replaced the laptops, and the laptops are getting replaced with chrome books! I'm just trying to think back in so when they had really old stuff! Speaking of really old stuff they have TVs that we watched channel 1 news on every day that look like they're from maybe the 60s! They turn on and just give them horrible noise like a dog whistle. The Internet speeds are up to 150 Mbps on the download speed and 70 on the upload speed. That's for the next few generations that gets smarter than us ;) I am not going to miss elementary school but I'm gonna miss this school. By Harlem middle school! x Justin 2013-2015

hello, I'm a student here currently in the school as of Jan 5th. and the school is okay, it's not…read moregood or bad just meh. i'm going to tell you the pros and cons of this school. the pros, first off they don't really have a dress code, as long as you are not naked you will be fine lol. the cafeteria is not half bad. what I recommend is the cheese sticks and the sub sandwiches. everything else I don't really like, and you have to be careful with school food because it can get you food poisoning. trust me, iv'e been there. the layout of the school. it might seem intimidating at first, but once you go through most of the halls it's actually pretty easy to walk around and find you way to your classes. now here is the cons, the students. obviously it's not really the school's fault for making some of the students be rude or misbehaving, it's most of the time the parents fault. but let me tell you, some of these people in the school do NOT know how to act at all! leaving trash on the floor, acting up and yelling, making fun of people, etc. just if you are the kids that act up at school, at least respect the people around you and mind your own business. it's that easy, you don't have to bother anyone just for a good laugh or being really rude to the teacher for no reason, just be kind. and btw you don't look cute or make you look cool, you just look stupid and making that person or everyone uncomfortable. next up is the clubs (I am so sorry this is taking long, I just have a lot to say ) okay so the clubs I know there is dnd, chess...to be honest there is not that many clubs. but we need to add more clubs so everyone has more options if they want to be in a club! or have students make clubs so there is more diversity. next is the lunchroom itself...oh my god it is alway so packed. they should bring back students if they want to hang out in the classrooms they can instead of then lunchroom because whenever I'm in there it's just anxiety inducing! Next is the smart passes. I know people are doing stupid stuff in the bathrooms and stuff so they have to keep track of everyone, but literally it is so annoying. First you have to make a pass on your phone/computer or the teacher will do it (and if you can't get into the bathrooms, it's because there is a limit for how many people go outside into the halls which is insane) then you have to rush to the bathroom and back so your pass doesn't go over the time limit. If you go over the time limit they might cut you off with passes or smth for a short pierod of time. At this point just have paper or personal passes the teachers hand out for students so they can use the bathroom Like we used to. Because if you have an emergency, you can have time to do whatever you have to do and relax for a minute. And if one of the kids is taking too long, just make security find them and see if you punish them or not. Okay that's pretty much it. I hope you found this helpful, hopefully. I've only come across a few good teachers in the school who take the time to guide me to a brighter future (Ex: Andy Werhane, Stewart Bahling, Dan Koenings, Danelle Johnson, David Allen, Jon Hannel, and Shahrazad Sheikhali, Michelle Helgeson). I have had many teachers over these years but only a select few have actually done their job. Teaching should be about helping students learn new ways to think. Instead we're stuck memorizing words and definitions. Today I was accused of skipping classes this semester when I have not once skipped a single class. I've seen students getting bullied and nothing said or done about it. Last week I stepped up and stopped a bully from attacking another student. The administration does absolutely nothing and most of them aren't even qualified for their jobs. I wish the best for this school as I am finishing in December and I really hope the school does something about the majority of their teachers and amminstrators being low quality and disrespectful to students. I am not one to write reviews online but I had to go to the extent of creating a Yelp account to show my disgratitude towards this place of education.

RMS sends home a password to their "Parent Portal" program which allows you and your student to look over grades without having to wait for midterms or emails from teachers. There are very few elective classes (if any); however, there are honors classes that function very similar to AP classes. The classes for each grade's section (West and East) are bunched into a single hallway, so once your student reaches high school, he or she might be a bit frightened at the distance between classes.

One of the teachers noticed my recent self harm marks and asked about it and when I said it was just cat scratches they didn't say anything about it or contact anyone, even though it was obviously self harm marks. The only time I was called to the counselor's was when I said I hated this school and the counselor apparently had to email my mom about it. I was bullied here and when my mom told the teacher of the class I was being bullied in, they told my friends even though my mom specifically had told them not to tell anyone, this was especially bad because the bully was one of my 'friends'. I would also get physically harassed in that class, and none of the teachers noticed. The teachers would yell at us and give us way too much homework, I'm in high school now and I get way less homework than I did then. When I was failing in my classes nobody contacted my mom, she had to check on a website for the school. The rules were also very strict, you only could drop off and get your stuff from your locker (which you had to use) in only about 5 minutes. They strictly did not allow phones and if they saw you with it, it would be an immediate detention. They so desperately tried to make the school fun, with half assed events and drawings to get candy of you did something 'good out of the ordinary' which almost nobody got and nobody wanted. In gym class they would overwork you too much and circle jog oh circle jog, the golden star of gym class. Circle jog is an activity that we had to do all week or just one/two days of the week, circle jog is were you jog around the gym to a song that often has a 1-3 minute guitar solo. Most of the students after the jog were exhausted but if you started walked during circle jog you would be yelled at and points would be taken off for participation that day. Circle jog was also unnecessarily long and everyone and I tell you EVERYONE absolutely hated circle jog. I think that's it for now. The classroom is bright, happy and well equipped. The outdoor area is amazing and allows the children to experience nature and play. The "Buddies Program" with the 10 & 11 year olds is amazing. Each preschooler gets a "Big Buddy" that reads to them once a week and celebrates holidays and other special events with them. The bonds created are wonderful and go beyond anything I have seen any where else. Spectrum also offers before and after school care in a safe and naturing environment. I would strongly suggest that you check out the program soon...there will be waiting lists!
