Not yet opened is the observation deck (coming 2020) to be called the Edge. Or some of the proposed hotels surrounding the area. They are starting to sell residences within however. In addition to the main building with a shopping center and restaurants as well as the Jose Andres-led Spanish food court on the ground floor, among other outlets.... There's the Shed, an arts center that officially debuted in early April. The Shed looks like a big square white bubble. It has rollers in a couple places so that the "building" size can be expanded. They're already advertising various concerts, etc. to be held there. It's not much to look at from the outside (only; you can't enter), but will be another draw to the area. Then, there's the most famous architectural element, already. It's called "Vessel" -- not "the" in front of it. Basically it's a place name for the artsy "sculpture". It will be renamed at some point by crowdsourcing. Standing 150 feet tall, Vessel consists of 154 interconnecting flights of stairs. The structure offers views of the Hudson Yards complex, midtown Manhattan and the Hudson River. The outside appears coppery chrome and reflects various sites. Plus it serves as the most photographed -- with selfie reflections being very popular. And it's been a hit on Instagram. Tickets are free to enter, and climb, but there was a very long line to get them. The earliest entry time was 4 hours later and we weren't going to wait. Supposedly you can also reserve times on line. We walked around inside the mall building... just to see some of the high end shops. Everything is quite spread out on 5 floors. And then went to to the Spanish food court downstairs. You even had to stand in line to take the escalator down. They controlled the number of people entering.. Signage is not the best throughout the main building. I'd suggest studying the layout on line before coming. And if you want to climb Vessel, try to book online ahead of time. But make sure to see the other major sights in New York City first before coming here...

I wouldn't set aside time to go see this park unless you visit the High Line and the park in the other side near the High Line Entrance. That's by the Vessel. It's been close to 10 years since I've walked the Highline. There's no reason for that other than I…read moredon't find myself spending significant time in this area that allows for a leisurely stroll. Normally I'm rushing to make my train or rushing to make my dinner reservation from the train to Chelsea or the Village, etc. I found myself with a couple hours free recently as I was in between classes at Peloton studios and it was early (for me) in the morning, around 9 am. It was pleasantly empty (not enough to feel unsafe or anything) and I thoroughly enjoyed my long walk throughout, admiring buildings, admiring graffiti on buildings, peeking into apartment buildings-- you get my drift-- it's so different from walking on regular sidewalks. But what makes it surreal is all the greenery that surrounds you, allowing for an almost sylvan experience in the middle of the urban jungle. Last time I walked it, there were no vendors and now there are, so you can grab a snack, coffee, smoothie etc along the way. Because I'm a lifelong New Yorker, I couldn't help but wonder if rats make their way up here but I tried to put it out of my mind. Guess I can search reviews for sightings!

Trains carried meat, dairy, and produce until the 1960s decline; the last train ran in 1980, after which the structure sat abandoned. In 1999, local area residents started Friends of the High Line non-profit, dedicated to turning the freight rail into an elevated park-greenway, inspired by the Promenade Plantée in Paris. The resulting park's design and planning was carried out by James Corner Field Operations and Diller Scofidio + Renfro, along with Dutch planting designer Piet Oudolf. It opened in phases starting 2009. Over 210 plant species grew naturally on the tracks after trains stopped, and the design highlights this wild landscape with modern pathways and seating nestled into the greenery. The park features architectural elements like the Viewing Spur -- an observation area with bleacher-like seating -- plus seating areas and a rotating display of artworks by artists from around the globe. The High Line South (Gansevoort/Washington St.) ends at The Whitney Museum of American Art which was designed by Renzo Piano, and completed in 2015. Pavement is set by cobblestone dated 1799 for this space was originally cultivated. A lion faces the church. It contains a memorial flagpole in honor of Abe Lebewohl. Abe Lebewohl whose Ukrainian and Jewish deli (later expanded to advance becoming a restaurant), honed his support to the East Village community by providing free food to the homeless and beyond. He was a formidable model of virtue for good deeds of East Village to unify a cohesive community for full cooperation and a high level of involvement. Abe Lebewohl, gone but not forgotten, is remembered by the city but I wish a plaque describing who he was exist either by the flagpole or under the lion. I wish there are more good people with these strong values honing genuine core principals to enrich good deeds to a community. This sitting area provides relief to my weary body during my travels in passing. I like the cobblestone pavement which brings charm and enlightenment to reflect of what life entails in 1799. Further, the cobblestone preserves a piece of New Amsterdam (now known as New York City).

UPDATE: 2nd Avenue Deli is reopening October 2007 in Murry Hill in the former location of Marbella, a tapas bar.
