We had…read moreattended a coop in the past, and she had a hard time being dropped off, so we were cautiously hopeful that her first foray into preschool would be a positive one for her. All of the teachers at Little Hands are so sweet with her, and take her into their fold as soon as we get there. Any clinginess she has dissipates within seconds of arriving. When I come back to pick her up, she's all smiles, hugging and kissing her teachers. The half day schedule is 4 hours long, which is perfect - long enough that I don't have to turn around right after dropping her off to pick her up again. And they feed the kids snack AND lunch so I don't have to worry about packing a lunch on top of trying to get everyone out of the door in the morning. BONUS. The space is sweet - a large backyard with lots of play structures and toys, as well as chickens and bunnies. The kids help feed the chickens and sometimes collect eggs to use for lunch. They also have a plot at the community garden a few blocks away that they'll go to sometimes for a picnic lunch. Best of all, this is a place where my kid can get MESSY. I'm too anal to do those kinds of projects at home - the ones involving glue, glitter, paint, mud, gack... But I don't want my kid to be anal like me, so I'm very happy to see her little feet and face covered in dirt and what-not at the end of the day. Huzzah for Erin and her wonderful teachers at Little Hands!

My younger son joined this past year, and we are so grateful that he, too, gets to grow and learn in such a special place. The teachers at Little Hands are truly exceptional--kind, conscientious, warm, and confident. They approach each child with genuine care and respect, creating a safe space where kids are not only encouraged to explore and express themselves, but also gently guided to be thoughtful, kind, and responsible members of their community. It's clear that the staff is deeply committed to teaching children how to be good humans in our complex world. We especially love the play-based learning approach, which allows the children to learn through curiosity, imagination, and joyful discovery. The time they spend outside in the beautiful garden is a highlight--planting, playing, and connecting with nature in meaningful ways. It's the kind of early childhood experience every parent hopes for. Little Hands has been such a gift to our family. We're constantly in awe of the heart and intention that goes into everything they do. Thank you to all the amazing teachers for helping our boys grow with confidence, kindness, and joy!

MTP has an open door policy, which allowed me to be present while our boy was adjusting. It did not take him long, and now he LOVES school! We have found a wonderful sense of community and support at MTP. The room very spacious with an open concept. There is an outdoor playground as well as a big room for indoor play on stormy days. I wanted to find a co-op because I love the fact that I can ease my child into learning. You get to be a part of the class and get to know the kids, families and the fabulous teacher Amy! There was actual information about how they are CONTINUING to keep our kids safe and masking. Every day that I went there, it was a place of peace and kindness where kids are encouraged to grow in their own ways. The instructors were always responsive to questions and after-hours emails and stayed engaged with where our son was in his development. Since the class size is kept small, all of the kids know each other and their parents mostly know each other, leading to a real "family" atmosphere in the school. In addition, I was really pleased by the way they took any special needs in stride. My son with hearing loss (wore hearing aids) went here for two years. Jenn and her crew made sure that his needs were being met every day and never once made him (or us) feel like the "odd-man-out". They even changed the main room of the preschool to make it more sound-absorbing, so our son wouldn't be so overwhelmed with noise. When we needed to schedule speech therapists to come to the school for him it was never an issue. I would highly recommend Stumptown Kids to anyone considering sending their child there. It's run by real people who genuinely care about your kids and want to see them succeed. I was really sad to have to move on from here when it was time.

Stumptown Kids is a play-based and child-centered preschool, which means the school values child development and listens to the what the individual children are communicating. My children have been able to explore and learn about the world around them in a safe and loving environment. I appreciate how the staff teaches the children how to take care of themselves both emotionally and physically. My second grader still eats her protein first from her school lunch, which is just one example of how she learned to take care of her body. What I have cherished the most is the sense of community that Stumptown Kids have instilled in my children. The school does this on a personal level by providing the tools for the children to support each other; and on the local level the school does this by taking neighborhood walks and regular visits to a nearby senior living community. The school itself is a beautiful space. Jennifer Loring, the owner, has taken great care to design a school that feels both welcoming and fun.

I was told multiple times the funds would be returned at the time another child took the spot. We did end up deciding to go somewhere else that I had fewer reservations about, and I reached out for a refund to the $1,650 that they charged me to hold my spot. They once again confirmed it would be fully refundable once another child took our spot, and I checked the handbook and saw no other policy or line stating it was not 100% refundable. It has been nearly 8 months. I have been in regular communication with a staff member who has been very nice and I believe is unrelated to the issue. She even confirmed to me that she had forwarded my request to Taylor who was going to issue my refund, and apologized several times for it taking longer than it should have. I wanted to stay civil and continued to give the benefit of the doubt, so instead of contacting a lawyer, leaving a bad review, or making a report the BBB, I continued to check in monthly with the staff member, awaiting for Taylor to process the refund, even though it was causing me financial hardship. I honestly regret being so kind about it, perhaps if I had left a review or taken other public action, Taylor would have been forced to respond to me. I finally heard back today that the business has closed, and after 8 months of trying to get my money back, the owner clearly had no intention to do so. She has opened multiple other daycares, so while this business closed, I believe any parent considering sending their child to one of her businesses should be warned. Like another poster in this thread, I will be following up with BBB and a lawyer. I'm so disappointed. Please do not give this person your money. I regret not getting a lawyer involved sooner, this feels very predatory. I plan to locate the pages for the other businesses she owns and leave similar warnings, it's unfair to just close your business and open a new one to get out of paying money you owe.

This center has some turnover lately, which I know has taken a toll on the staff and families. One of the teachers recently returned, and when my daughter saw her when we came to school that morning, her mouth literally dropped open and she pointed. I put her down and she ran over to the teacher and gave her the biggest longest hug and you could just tell how much, the staff care for their kids. I can't imagine what it's like running a business like this and I know there are ups and downs but moments like this tell me this is a genuinely good place for my child to be when she can't be with me all day.
