I'm updating my review from 7 years ago. I decided to give it another go after my 1 star experience. It's much better than previously. We opted to do a birthday party. It was very reasonable in price compared to other things in the area. The kids loved the pizza and to be honest it was a nostalgic flash back for me. I tasted really good. We also did a salad bar trip and that was also better. The food was well kept and nice in appearance. The staff was so nice to us as well this time. Very helpful with the app and with questions. So much so we came back again the following month and the person working the prize counter let my youngest get something that was just slightly out of the prize winnings. They have gotten much better all around with service, food, and cleanliness. Also who doesn't love the old cheese man robot on the stage. read more

Not a bad Chuck E. Cheese at all! Stopped here on a trip because I heard this one still had animatronics. They weren't working but they were dressed up for the summer, which was pretty fun. As a member of yelp for many years it is known I am from out of states I do not live in Iowa and don't leave negative reviews but my experience was so horrible I had to leave a review. I went to a 3 year olds birthday party it was from 10 to 12 in the morning. At about 11:15 the little girls grandmother went to ask what time were they going to serve the food or if chucky cheese was going to come out. The manager RAY SANTIAGO started yelling and being rude to her to the point he was threatening to cancel the party. So the grandmother said not to mess it up for the birthday girl that she would leave and she did. I'm sure that the manager Ray Santiago will disagree and say it was the customers but thankfully the incident was videotaped at least 3 people did and I am one of them. I can understand that they probably booked more parties than they should have regardless they were rude and unprofessional. They should have apologized and give them back the money they had paid which I think was 180.00 so they could have taken the party elsewhere. They never gave them all they paid for like photo booth or something like that. I don't know what kind of scheme they are playing lto take the consumers money and not provide them with the services they were paid for. I've never in my life seen such manners or such a rude and entitled employee especially to be in charge of overseeing a children's event. When they contacted Chucky Cheese to complain they apologized and offered to give them some coupons UNBELIEVABLE I would never go to that place even if they offered me it for free. Well it took me 37 years to get to a Chuck E. Cheese.. You might ask what I have been doing my whole life. Well have no fear, with 20 month child in tow, I finally took the plunge! The place is sensory overload for a child and has plenty of things to keep them busy, from video games, rides, play equipment, to that world famous animatronic band led by Chuck E and his buds! Things I like - 1. They do have a pretty good security check in and check out policy, with black light stamps so they can make sure you are leaving with your own child! 2. They have beer.. 2 per ID, which means parents or supervising adults are not coming here to get trashed while their kids run wild. 3. The food is not the worst I have ever had, and they do have a salad bar if your into that! 4. Lots of different game options for all ages! Things I didn't care for - 1. The staff, mostly younger adults were pretty un professional, and not real welcoming in most of my interactions! 2. It's kinda pricey, but then again your are getting a free animatronic band ripping out the hits! 3. Lot's of crazy older kids not being supervised. I even had to scold a few kids for taunting Chuck E. when he came out to dance with the kids.. I felt I had to, cause the other staff members couldn't handle it and parents were not paying attention.. All in all the place seemed pretty clean, and for 10 bucks you can play lots of games, win a couple tickets and walk out of there with some little plastic toy that your kid will love. I don't think this is a place I would frequent but who knows once a year, if you can handle the crazy, go for it! This place is need of some updating and cleaning. Pros: This is one of the few places you can take a kid in DSM to play some video games. Games are one coin. Pizza is actually decent here. They take mobile coupons for pizza and coins. Cons: Kind of dirty. Pretty cheap on tickets. All games are one token, but you don't get a lot of tickets at all. It's pretty sad compared to Dave and Busters. It's always packed on weekends. Management sometimes seems like they don't care. Example if game is broken/tickets are coming out of machine/food not cooked thoroughly. We have complained a few times, but don't get professional solutions or answers. Cinnamon Dessert sticks are the bomb! It was a Tues eve and were very glad to find out it was 2ferTuesday. You get #2- Large 1 topping pizzas for $22 plus the play card was $15 for entire day! Also had salad bar. Only made 2 trips and cost $8.49 which is rather over priced since it's small. Good tasting but very small choices AND didn't even have a red dressing like French or Catalina!! But tickets are kind of a rip off. We ended up w/ 305 tickets and all we could get was 4 tootsie rolls! Seriously!! Wow, we could've bought 4 bags at Walgreens for less than $15! Rushed, used my kids party for training a new staff member, just as I was packing up because our time thankfully ended a staff member grabbed my kids toys and walked away while she just watched me pack up. We had our 2 year old Grandson's birthday party there. He loves the games and rides but not a fan of Chuck E himself. The host for are party did a great job letting us know when Chuck E would be out walking and made sure that he did not do a birthday greet with our Grandson. The kids in attendance got a play pass so that they had 2 hours of unlimited play time (much handier than the days of handing out tokens). They also got Chuck E cups which they can bring back for free refills for life! The food has improved greatly and was enjoyed by all but honestly the price was high. Some of our guest had purchased salads and wings and was shocked at the price. For our party we spent $195 that included 2 extra pizzas, drinks for adults and 2 slices of 1-topping pizza and drinks for each child 9 Helium Balloons, play pass, 1000 Bonus Tickets for birthday boy, Goody Bag per child Dippin' Dots ice cream per child and birthday boy got a pass to come back and play for an hour. read more

I was expecting absolute pandemonium but was pleasantly surprised! I came here with my 4 yro & mother in law on a Sunday afternoon ready to be miserable, but we had a really lovely time. The employees were very nice, especially the sweet girls at the order register & the prize counter. The pizza was surprisingly decent & hot & fresh. We had a coupon for a medium, 2 drinks, & 35 tokens/play points, so I felt it was a fair price. It wasn't overly crowded when we were there, & I liked that the older kid games are in a separate area. The smaller kid games & rides were 1 point per turn so it wasn't too expensive, game wise. Of course the good prizes take quite a few tickets, but most kids are happy with a small candy or trinket, so not a big deal. Decided to take my 17 month old son and my 8 year old nephew on a Sunday afternoon. It is one indoor place around here that can entertain that wide of an age gap so that is a plus. We didn't have any pizza this time around but I have had the pizza here and it's okay. I don't think this is their selling point but it's not terrible. The stage and characters on stage look exactly the same as they did 20 years ago, probably should try to update that. Now the games are what we actually came for. Each game requires one token. My nephew enjoyed playing all of them. We used a mobile coupon that got us 100 tokens for $20 so that was good. They usually have that coupon on their website so I highly recommend checking out the coupons before visiting this place. There was a tax on it when you get it from the counter which I thought was strange since the token machines don't require a tax. I tried to get $10 more because my nephew needed more tickets to get the prize that he wanted but all of the token machines were Out of Service so you had to go to the counter and pay the tax. Definitely a negative on that. Another huge negative that I was surprised by were the prizes themselves. When I was a kid, I feel like the prizes were better than they are now. Most were just plastic animals, insects or characters or stickers. The toys that the kids actually wanted were on the back wall but those prizes you have to pay for and can't use tickets to get. There are prices for what each toy costs but what's the point of going to an arcade to play games for tickets that can't be traded in for the actual "good" toys that kids want? I just found that really disappointing and so did my nephew. One good thing that I did like and so did my son was that they had a side for toddlers and smaller children. He loved the slide and the little rides. It definitely could use an update and more cleaning and the belts on the rides were so dirty and half were broken anyway so we didn't even use them. I might have given it more stars if it was a bit cleaner and more updated. I'd probably take my nephew and son back but just because it's the only place besides the park that I can take both of them to that they would enjoy but not a go to place. read more

I noticed no one had bothered to do a review for this place. I remember going when I was much much younger. I haven't been here in a few years. Last time I came we had some pizza and played some games. This time was no difference. My niece was having her birthday. She was having a blast. We pulled a few coupons off the internet and got her lots of coins, which... you will need cause the machines eat them up. Your coin to ticket ratio is a bit off. Your trying to win tickets for prices for your young gamer but they are a little tougher to get than you would imagine. The amount of tickets that are needed for a decent prize cost you more than you hope to dip in your pocket book for. There is a salad bar.... it looked ok. We didn't eat there but I walked by a table with a pizza and it looked like it was straight out of the freezer pizza. They have sandwiches and wings, but again, we were spending so much money on the coins to try and get a treat for my niece we didn't want to drop the money on the food there. The mechanical animals that used to be there..... well.. they are still there and silently talk to each other as music from the TV plays from the side. Once in awhile a poor tortured worker had to put on the Chucky suit and come out and try to convince the children to follow him around the building and dance for tickets. The song was awkwardly long as some of the children batted at his nose and face. Then he would just toss tickets up in the air for the kid. I felt sorry for that person as the crowd was very little and quite sad on a Tuesday night. Came here on a Wednesday night for a friend's kids birthday. It's been a long time since I've been here cause the last time it was called Showbiz pizza. The place looked smaller than it was before and it was a bit dull looking inside. Felt kind of dirty too but I guess that's expected with kids running around all day and night. We ordered a super combo pizza that was actually pretty tasty. They also have beer for the adults :) All games that we played were a token each so you'll be able to play a lot. "Where a kid can be a kid" indeed! I havent been to a Chuck E Cheese's in years-the last time being for a younger family members birthday Im sure, but this year I ended up celebrating my 31st birthday here! This has always been one of my favorite places to go as a kid and when you got to go it felt like a huge deal! A lot has changed over the years but they still have the basics. Chuck and his band are still up on the stage, they have new modern videos and remakes of songs, Chuck E himself has had some plastic surgery I think-hes looking much younger these days! The classic arcade games are still there with some new updated ones. Some of the fun was a bit lost now with the switch to points on cards for the games and activities rather than tokens. I used to love the sound of the tokens jingling in your cup! Its a bit on the pricey side-especially if ordering food and drinks but they made us a delicious vegan pizza so that was nice. Its great that parents/guardians/whomever is bringing in a kid get stamped with blacklight number the same as child's and is checked before exiting for extra safety measures! One thing that can be improved on is customer service-all of the employees were a bit rude and didnt really pay attention to their surroundings. Felt like a high school cafeteria! If you haven't been to Chuck E Cheese recently because of a past experience; please reconsider. The fairly new games, layout and staff makes this establishment almost brand new. The staff; though young; is extremely helpful and relatively content. There are new games, all working and very interactive. I was pleased to see extra games in the toddler area that produce tickets. My two 4yr olds had age appropriate games for prizes. Management seems to care about the wellbeing of the staff this is evident in the overall demeanor of the employees, I witnessed a young lady handle a difficult parent with poise and grace. I also saw a handful of the staff doing something other than standing. They all had some responsibility and it kept them motivated Great job Guys Keep it up read more

My daughter has seen their commerical for years and wanted to go. We we're in DesMoines and took her. She s 8 and the other is 5. Neither had played any type of video game or arcade before. Way over their heads as well as mind. Either we were really bad or didn't know what we were doing. It wasn't that fun. Trading in tokens for less the dollar store junk. Me and a friend brought our kids here on a Wednesday afternoon (I would never come here on a weekend, too many kids!) It wasn't very busy and it was nice being able to run to any of the games and rides we wanted to! It appeared very clean and the restroom was clean. All the games were in working order except one which was being maintained at that time. One machine ate a token which was quickly replaced by an employee. Chuck E even made an appearance and got all the kids to do a dance and gave them free tickets. The employees all seemed nice and looked happy to be there! I sure don't expect 4 star service or food at a place like this, but Chuck E. Cheese fell way short of my low expectations. We had a family gathering there and everything the staff did was wrong. The pizza that was ordered in advance was 1 HOUR LATE. The food we ordered there took an hour and a half to arrive and the staff brought it to a table where none of us was seated, so we didn't know it was ours. The staff forgot to bring adult drink cups and a salad bar plate until we pestered them and they never did bring forks and knives so we could eat a beautiful cake that was made for the birthday event. The entertainment is fine if you 9 and under. The place is a token sink hole. Chuck e and his gang seem to scare everybody in general hence why all the tables near the stage are so abandoned I saw a dust bunny roll across the floor. All the prizes are trash. It seems like a employee just cleared out their daughters room and put it behind glass. If you want an Xbox or ps4 good luck because you will die before you get enough tokens for that. We booked my son's birthday party there. Where do I start? I think it would be helpful to receive what it was that I ordered for the party. I also think it would've been helpful to have a hostess but didn't have two other jobs at the same time. We waited for nearly 30 minutes just to get the cards with the tokens on it for the children to play . We waited 30 minutes to get any additional adult cups so that people can have something to drink. My son never got his medal that I ordered and paid for. I ordered a chocolate cake and we were served white cake. Hostess seemed annoyed when I refused to do the piñata and ticket blaster until our two hour unlimited play passes had expired. I felt that, if we had to wait 30 minutes to get the passes to begin with, the hostess can wait 30 minutes for us to fully take advantage of the unlimited play passes before we were asked to do the piñata and the ticket blaster. Lastly, we had to eat at tables that were not cleaned off from the previous birthday party. The floor was littered of candy and food from the previous party too. I paid $350 for the party and virtually nothing went smoothly. I give this experience a 1 out of 5 stars. read more
