Well, there is much more to Pines Tap than old union workers, my friend. This place has the BEST daily dinner specials. Me, I'm partial to the Friday night fish fry, where you can choose from fresh lake perch, cod, frog legs, shrimp, or walleye for somewhere around $7. It's a steal considering how much food you get. And this fish is GOOD! The lake perch is some of the best I've had around---and I'm saying this after having Phil Smidt's and Teibel's and some of the other infamous perch houses of the region. It almost tastes like they took fresh lake perch--only hours old---and fried it in a Long John Silver's-type batter. The result is a crispy outside and a decadent, tasty cut of fish on the inside. If you order it with fries, you'll find this side to be just as tasty as the fish. And don't expect a hole in the wall, even thought Pines Tap isn't in the greatest location of Hammond.
