I can only evaluate based on two items and carryout as I did NOT eat inside. I ordered at the bar, which the service was quick and pleasant. I ordered the Restaurant Crawl special for $7 which was the Lake Perch basket with cole slaw & tartar sauce. I also ordered the sweet potato fries for $7. Both entrees were excellent. The Lake Perch was just perfect. It's fried and not soaked in butter how some restaurant prepare it. So it's easy to handle and dip into the tartar sauce, which was on the sweet side. The cole slaw would have been better if it was in a separate bag or container instead of being with the fish as it was warm. The sweet potato fries were cooked perfectly, too. Very tasty and I at every last one! It did not need any condiment to make them taste better. I would go back - but not sure about eating indoors - it's definitely a bar area and it appears to allow smoking inside, unsure of that though. Let me start by saying I love this bar and have never had an issue until tonight.Unfortunately, Dawn managed to ruin the experience almost immediately. When we walked in, the bar was quiet. No rush, no crowd, no chaos. We sat at the bar and Dawn asked if we wanted drinks. I ordered a water, and my two friends say they need a minute to decide if they want beer or liquor. She's gone for 15+ minutes...Dawn wasn't busy serving tables or helping other guests, she was fully invested in a long, uninterrupted conversation with another group. My friends repeatedly tried to make eye contact and get her attention. She would look at my friends, then look back to continue her conversation. After 15+ minutes, my friends decided they weren't comfortable spending money somewhere they were clearly unwelcome. When I finally flagged Dawn down, she casually asked, "What can I get you guys?" as if nothing had happened. I then said, "Nothing, but I do want to let you know that we felt it was unprofessional to-" She immediately cut me off, got defensive, raised her voice, and said, "I came over 3 times what do you want me to do beg?!" As Dawn is barking at us like a dog, I said "look at you getting defensive when I'm just trying to point out your customer service." Her and I go back and forth because at this point I'm angry the WORKER would talk to ANYONE like that! She then walks away and gets security to clean up her own mistake. We talk to him and tell him everything that happened. Even after that, she couldn't help herself and came back to make a slick comment about us "counting quarters," despite the fact that the quarters were clearly for the pool table. Completely unnecessary & unprofessional. I also couldn't ignore the uncomfortable micro-aggressions throughout the interaction. We were the only dark-skinned guests there, and everyone around us was being served promptly and warmly. When I used a Spanish word ("Cucuy"), she responded with "that's weird" and a visibly disgusted look--an odd reaction for someone working in hospitality. I've never had an issue at this bar before, but Dawn's behavior was dismissive, defensive, and frankly embarrassing for someone whose job is customer service. I hope management takes note, because this kind of attitude is exactly how regulars stop coming back. read more

Awful service, Awful food. First I call and no answer this is the third time I have called and have been left unanswered. I would like to call before hand because I am not very close and would like to know when the kitchen closes before I come (every day is different). I have had food once from here before and was delighted so I was sad to see that my chicken tenders were all black..burnt to a crisp. My fries tasted like freezer fries and were over all just grainy. I've been to Growlers maybe three times. It's a cool atmosphere and a decent beer selection but I've noticed one of the regular bartenders seems to cater to select regulars. My last time at Growlers the bar probably had 15 customers and getting my first drink took easily 10 minutes. We kept being told one minute and hang on. Definitely not great service. read more

The staff at Growlers are awesome. This place has received one heck of a remodel during "the Covid stay at home pandemic." They opened back up May 18, 2020 and all I can say is the NEW decor is AWESOME! I have been a patron for some time - it is a safe place and the food last night was great...suggest the roast beef sandwich (pretty dang on good) Anyway if you have not been there or if you have and for some reason left disappointed, I suggest you give it another go! read more

Growlers is a fun little bar in downtown Highland....good place to come and get your beer on.... lots of micros on tap.....including 3 from Three Floyds....3 different ones from Upland too.....great priceas as well......$3.00 for pints....lots of different bottle selections.... 2 pool tables...golden tee....and they have indoor bags too they have taken over the record store that was next door...so lots better now for the live bands that play although i have only been once and havent seen a live act there yet.... really clean bathrooms which is a plus and super friendly service... hope to be back soon to hear some of the local bands playing there...they also have an open mic and accustic night too....check it out when your in the area.. Langels Pizza is right across the street too if you get a little hungry :-) its always cool to support local business and music read more

I don't come here very often per se but, when I do it's usually a good time. Here's the skinny: The bouncer types do enforce the rules (nicely). Drinks are good and are fairly priced for the local area. Pretty clean bar area and tables another plus is clean bathrooms. Dance floor is small but, it's a BAR with dancing NOT, a DANCE CLUB with a bar. Here's the fat: They card here, I made the mistake of walking past and going straight to the bar, get this the guy said "Excuse me, can I see some ID". "Excuse me"??? really, not a shoulder grab "Hey man! blah..." but, "Excuse me" not bad. Add to that, when it's time to kick people out, they do it... nicely for the most part. I'm sure they can be asses if they needed to be but, it seems that most of the locals know that it's time to go and leave it at that. The few stragglers that are slow to giddy up are given that extra minute then told to GTFO. Drinks are average price for NWI, mixed drinks are ok too but, definitely nothing to write home about. They do make 'em strong though, some think it's a good thing others (like myself) just want it to taste right. Hence deduction - it's hit or miss on the Mixed Drinks here. Beers are a safe bet and they do carry a decent selection too. Even on busy nights like Thursday, Friday, Saturday the place is kept pretty clean. I see employees taking out garbage and clearing tables full of beer bottles and mopping up if needed on the regular. The men's bathroom is surprisingly clean for a bar... I'm actually not worried about turning the water off after washing my hands. lol. The dance area isn't huge but, it's a bar... you go to a bar to drink and hang ot with friends, if it so happens that dancing might get involved, so be it. Good times and decent prices. The acoustics are my main concern: With the open concept, air-ducts showing, the sound quality is HORRIBLE. Ten+ TVs line the walls with sports (not complaining, just saying) and then a packed bar, and add to that metal ceilings and a loud band - there is no way to hear a word from anyone. My fiancé and I frequently go to this bar, it's just by our house so it's very convenient. We always go to John or Dawn to get our "Pink Parrot", in fact we have ordered it so much that I've drawn up a picture of a pink parrot with the recipe right next to it to make it easier for other bartenders to make it. We have had some issues, had a different girl make my fiancés drink and she seemed very bitchy. I did not get her name. Fiancé is disabled and has a stimulator so he cannot wear regular pants without being in pain. That didn't matter to the security, they sent him home to change because of the Friday / Saturday rule. I'm still waiting on a call back from Tracy the manager about the incident. Besides the rude bartender and the usually obnoxious security I love it there, the food is great, Dawn and John are amazing. I recommend our "Pink Parrot" if you love pink lemonade :) read more

Went here on a Thursday night to play pool with my husband. The "bouncer" let me in and then looked at my husband's ID and threw it back at him and just said "you can't come in, you have a white tshirt on." First, why did he have to look at his ID to deny him access because of his tshirt? I think the steroids went to his head, personally. My husband (taken back by his tone) then asked "What, why? Am I in the ghetto?" The bouncer said "yes" and puffed out his chest and did that "im a big man, I will fight you" thing guys do (which my husband did NOT do, at all) I understand bars have dress codes/rules...but that does not mean you have to be a complete jerk, he could have kindly just said "sorry, bro" I dont believe how insane the whole situation was. I paid cash for one drink and was refused service for the second one, under the excuse that I was harassing the bartender. I did nothing but hold up a $20 bill and ask for a drink. I'm not sure that this bar understands exactly how bars usually work, where customers hold out money, and then exchange that money for a drink. Maybe I waved my bill too fast, or too slow. Maybe I was sticking my arm too far out. I really am unclear what the problem was, other than that I was "harassing" the bartender. I was kicked out shortly after and refused entry into the bar. I stopped by Growlers in the afternoon for just appetizers and a cocktail. I ordered a variety of appetizers all very good, but fell in love and can't stop thinking about the pretzel bites with beer cheese dip! Also, and thank you Tracy ( awesome bartender btw) for suggesting my new favorite cocktail, I think it's called the Dream cycle, made with whipped vodka and Oj, so delicious! This is a nice, casual sports bar, tv's, pool tables and live bands. If I were to make a recommendation, it would be to make one side of the pub non-smoking to accommodate more of the non smoking crowd like myself , if not all day, at lease in the afternoon while trying to fully enjoy the appetizers/lunch. read more

The bartenders have been rude for no reason, the atmosphere is your average loud music/gas chamber of cigarette smoke, and I've gotten lukewarm beer more than once. This is not a place I'd recommend. With so many other great bars to choose from in the area, I'm not sure why this place gets so much business. The bar crowd leaves little to be desired as well. Have a fun night here visiting friends. The bar is really big and there was great selection of beers at a really reasonable price. On issue though: the smoke in there was really bad. When the front door opened, I could see it coming out from the bar and after a couple of weeks it was still lingering on my coat. They need some ventilation. read more
