Overall we enjoyed our time and escaped the room but I don't think this will be my first choice for our next escape adventure. We showed up about 15 minutes before our scheduled appointment and received a warm greeting by the receptionist. The lobby space was well maintained and clean. Instructions were very clear and they gave us a locker with key to store our belongings. The escape room was very well decorated and exceptionally clean. Our host played his part well and our group had a great time! The puzzles were very challenging and involved some cool tech stuff. I have had the privilege to volunteer serving food during lunch and one thing that's always struck me is the gratitude the patrons feel for receiving a warm meal. The camaraderie in the room is fun and lively. The meals consist of a salad, a warm entrée, a side vegetable, and a dessert. Sometimes there is bread or bagel. The lunch room is well managed by the workers who don't eat until everyone else has, and the handicapped and infirm have their meals transported to them first. The cafeteria walls are now decorated with paintings of some of the patrons and are really well done. I really like the picture of the lady smiling in a blue coat. It's really heartwarming. Although I'm fortunate to have the capacity to care and feed myself I'm grateful that there is a place serving warm meals in a safe environment for those who cannot support themselves. If you have the opportunity to support or volunteer here at Bean's I highly recommend it. Just show up around 11:15-11:30AM and enter through the side door that is on the left, which is the entrance to the back of the kitchen. Someone will point you to a hairnet, hand washing station, apron, and plastic gloves and tell you where to stand on the food line. If you're not feeling the hairnet bring a baseball cap. Don't wear rings or watches. There is a place for people to hang their belongings near the door, though it's not secure so no valuables. If you're nervous for your first time hit me up and I'll join you on the serving line.

For the past three days since I have been here the staff have refused to provide bedding me, not even a sheet. So, not only am I putting my health at risk sleeping bare skin on an unsanitary cot I am also freezing at night as my cot is near the door/entrance. I have been told they have bedding but no one is washing it so I am left DURING A PANDEMIC in an unsanitary situation that could be prevented by someone washinga load of bedding. This is undignified and a reckless display of disregard for my health at that during a pandemic. This is unacceptable and foul. Why can't your staff wash one load of bedding so new guest can have a blanket and some type or barrier between their bare skin and the reused dirty cots? My cot reeks of urine and you think it is okay for me to sleep bareskin on a urine stained cot. It isn't my urine on the cot. Do your donors and the public know you run this place like this?

Than, if we weren't home during the 30 minute range (earlier than that sometimes) they would call and be extremely about why weren't home and how we were holding them up, etc, (mind you, my mother's last one dropped off). My mother is 90 years old. The Hearts and Hands vehicle is a normal van with a ramp to access the backseat. They would have my mother walk up the ramp, hunch over and get into the back seat of the van. She'd have a hard time getting out of the seat and her legs were pretty bruised up from that daily escapade. Not only that, my mother has Alzheimer's, some days she'd be easy going and other days she'd be anxious. So they would send her home on the days she was anxious. LITERALLY, it was, say, 9 AM pick up, 9:40 AM call saying they're going to return her. Over the summer that wasn't as big a problem, as my daughter was home for the summer, but when she (my daughter) wasn't home, and my son and I were, at school or work, respectively, issues rose, as neither of us could really get out of school/work at the drop of dime. To top it all off, if my mother, even sneezed, they would send her home, "contagious" they said. We would watch her and see if she was sick. Nothing. Not a sneeze. Not a cough. Nothing. Which led me to believe, they just didn't want her there. And there is so much more. Not only that, the place is a drab. Dark. Ugly. Depressing. The staff does not like their job and you can CLEARLY tell by their facial expressions. If you don't like your job, get a new one. This place is definitely not a place to send a loved one. Unless you want to depress them. I would not recommend this place. The only thing I "liked" was that they would pick her up and drop her off, and they would give her rides to places every now and than. Other than that, I regret sending my mother for as long as I did. Horrible Place.

They provided individualized care that capitalized on his strengths. He loved to feel productive and of service. They allowed him to do essential tasks that contributed to his sense of well being. He also loved to walk and they would go with him on lunch time walks and just be with him. He enjoyed his time at Hearts and Hands. I would highly recommend them.

ONE family member visited her ONCE in all of those years. We were "regulars". WE WERE BANNED FROM VISITING HER in the final months AND DAYS of her life when LOVE and FRIENDSHIP is the most important, let alone at any time institutionalized! We were not told why, just that the POA had agreed to the banning. It seemed we were "in trouble" for not following "rules" where the rules were not always known or explained to us, or understood and followed by staff for that matter, nor were we ever granted an "audience" to meet to resolve these matters with Executive Administration to better understand our "offenses", or to state our view as to what may have happened. A different friend who knew her was DENIED being able to personally deliver and go over the card and photos I had prepared for my friend in what was the final weeks of her life without "clearance" from Medical and Executive Administration and thus never received them or the personal delivery of my messages to her that she was loved and not alone. I was admonished for pounding on my friend's window (in desperation) to let her know I had not forgotten about her and loved her. These are true stories and well documented. This Institution's Medical and Executive administration seemed bothered by our "interruptive" visits and advocacy. This Institution's Medical and Executive Administration do not seem to understand that Love and Friendship are an important component of Mental Health which is a QUALITY OF LIFE component --- as important (if not more) in the waning times of life, or when one is institutionalized and distanced from family and who provides that in their absence - FRIENDS. I would NOT EVER let my loved one go to Memory Care here nor would I recommend it for others.

In the last two years as her care needs have changed, the staff has been absolutely wonderful throughout it all. The management and caregiving staff have always been caring, compassionate and knowledgeable. I also really appreciate how management as created a strong sense of community for residents. It's not just a living facility but a true community where residents can be involved with helping each other and have a voice in how they want their living environment to be run. Management works hard to engage with residents and to provide activities that are creative and fun. Highly recommend to anyone who is looking for a caring place for their loved one.
