We're vacationing in Prince Edward County (in Ontario, Canada) for a few weeks and the nearest town to where we are staying is the quaint, marina town of Picton. In order to do our grocery shopping, we take the 10 minute drive into this charming town and I've been exploring Main Street's numerous shops. I happened to be running an errand at the other end of Main Street and of course, a store called "Books & Company" caught my eye. (I love bookstores!) I walked into a very welcoming and very large space that appeared to house a few different groups. It seemed like it was part 'big bookstore' (reminded me of Indigo and Chapters), part independent bookstore (think 'Book City'), part used bookstore (my favourite), then, off to the side....wait, was that a hallway to the next door coffee shop? Yes , this establishment was a blend of my two favourite types of stores. A coffee shop attached to a bookstore! And this isn't one of the big, commercial coffee shops that are partnered with a just-as-big- bookstore, it was a small town, family run coffee joint, which in my opinion, are the best kind! (['ve reviewed Miss Lily's separately) While I waited for my coffee to be made, I meandered across the small hallway that joins Miss Lily's to Books & Company. The small ramp also serves as a community pin-board for the area. I actually found out via the board that there is a Harry Potter camp in the area. (My elder boy may go!) After picking up my coffee I wandered around the book store, which was exactly what I thought it was: part new books like Indigo (with a great children's section in the back) and part old and used books (I was in that section for a while). There's even a great stationary area and community space upstairs, which happened to be hosting a local art collection that can be browsed for $3.00. I bought an old book for my measly old-book collection that I'm thinking of starting. ("Over the Ocean to Paris" by Franklin W. Dixon...I'm a bit of a Francophile) And I also picked up a blank greeting card with a photo by a local photographer of a scene from Prince Edward County, for my penpal. (You read right, I do have a penpal!) The lovely lady behind the desk was great to chat with and after I told her that it's a lovely place, she said that it was an even lovelier place to work. I made my purchase for $4.95 and walked out into the sunshine. What an amazing start to the day. If you're in Picton, ask a local where "The Bookstore" is. They'll know exactly what you're talking about.

However, I was walking out of The Bay and realized I missed a giant sign that said they have K-Pop stuff! Needing to check out their stock, I wandered in. The store is a about the same size if not slightly bigger than the older HMVs that used to be around. The K-Pop section was just one section in an aisle but it had staples that you would expect from BTS, Blackpink, NCT 127, and Tomorrow x Together. There were a few albums available for each artist and some merch for the more popular bands. They also carry DVDs here, a rare sight in this world of streaming. Impressively they had also had a section of anime. They had some of the newer popular hits like Demon Slayer and some older ones like Guilty Crown.

Prices are generally reasonable, but I have found some individual albums to be priced far too high compared to elsewhere. They also have a small selection on vinyl, and many DVD/Blu-Rays. Staff are friendly and helpful. They will order something in for you in it's not in stock, but available.

So she approached one of the persons working and mentioned she hadn't received a call about the order yet but wanted to check in since it was so close to xmas. The person was sharp and unfriendly with her stating we called you 3 times. My wife asked did you leave any messages, he stated we always leave messages. So she was quick to realize that they most likely errored in recording her phone number... not a big deal in and of itself it was about the attitude and cold sharp tones when it didn't have to be such. Unfortunately I've seen this attitude myself when seeing an interaction in the past with an unknown customer. This isn't a case of the customer is always right it's about being friendly and maybe just plain nice. A newly opened record store in the Oshawa Mall occupying the site of the former HMV store…read more My first impressions are that this is going to be a good store. It focuses on music, both in vinyl and CD formats, with far less gimmicky novelty items that were HMV's downfall. The selection is vast, with many back-catalogue albums as well as newer material and "greatest hits." Prices generally are fair, with many CDs listed as "2-for-$15" or "2-for-$20". I did note that latest releases are a couple of dollars more than you might find elsewhere, and some of the box-sets were rather pricey, but otherwise I'm very happy that this store is now open. Besides music, there are some racks of DVDs/Blu-rays, but overall I get the impression that this will be a good place to come to boost your music collection.

They specialize in retro games, so do your research so you're not surprised by current prices. The owner was friendly and helped me fill in some gaps in my collection.
