I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was a couple of dollars cheaper than what the renewal fee would have been if I had used a credit card and paid directly to Microsoft. I'm not the same gamer I was 5 years ago, but I'm still fairly active when I have some time to spare. That being said, I'm one of the few Asians out there who does not have a modified system. I'm an RPG player mostly and consider RPGs collectors items in a way. Every RPG I own is an original copy and I intend to keep it that way. That being said, I'm always looking for a great price on games. Game Centre is the best in terms of pricing bar none. EB, Best Buy, and all the other chain stores can't hold a candle to it. Pros: Knowledgable, courteous staff Best prices in town Great Selection New releases before everyone else Cons: Really can't think of one The store is located right in the heart of downtown, which makes it pretty convienient to get to. I usually stop by anytime I'm downtown and have time to spare. Their selection of games is top notch. I seem to always find new and selected releases of games that other stores don't have. Like I said, I'm a hugh RPG buff and they always have the newest RPG around. I never go home empty handed when I go to the store looking for a new release. Prices are always 5-10 dollars cheaper for new releases. They get even better for used games. I bought Eternal Sonata for the PS3 for 24.99 and saw it the next day for 39.99 at EB. It feels like a steal but honestly, that's how much it should cost if you ask me. They just gouge you at places like EB. It's also nice when you're asking about a certain game and the staff actually knows what the game is about. I've been to chain stores and overheard conversations where the staff is just bumbling through trying to make up stuff almost about games. It's not all staff mind you, but it's never happened at Game Centre. These guys know their s#%t. I only discovered Game Centre not too long ago, but it's quickly become my go to place for games. Overall this is a better than average store for accessories and peripherals as well as new and used games. They also have a good selection of older generation consoles, games, and accessories. Service at the counter was C- at best, but that's okay since I wasn't there to make any friends. Not sure what the issue was on one particular visit I made but I purchased 1 new game and some accessories and storage/snapcases for handheld games and the guy said next to nothing during the whole transaction and was reluctant to sell me stuff from within the glass counter. If people are willing to spend money, show them products when they have questions or concerns. I was purchasing some items for an obsolete and discontinued system and it's as if the guy didn't want me to buy anything from inside the glass display counter. It's been over a year since my last visit. I may go in there again soon and see if I get more of the same douchebaggery from the counter. If so I am going to re-write this review from scratch and reduce the stars to the absolute minimum. The store is great and the prices are as fair as it gets. I hope the staff has improved because the last time I was there there was an intellectual monster behind the counter and if you don't have that shit ironed out by age 25, you sir will have no hope in hell at the age of 35. Let me chime in here as to what I like about Game Centre. First of all their prices on used video games are some of the lowest you can find in the city. Many decent video game titles across numerous gaming platforms can be had on average for about $15. More recent popular titles (used) can be had for around $35-$45. You can also buy brand new video games and pre-order yet to be released titles as well. As they sell used video games, they also buy them or accept them towards store credit, but be aware if their selling prices are low then so are their buying prices. Game Centre also carries used video game consoles, including retro gaming systems such as Nintendo's GameCube and the Sega Dreamcast (What! No Vetrex? Waaaah!). Need a Microsoft Points card for Xbox Live or an extra video game controller? Yep, they got those too. How about the Stargate Atlantis boxset? Well whattaya know, Game Centre also sells DVDs. They don't have a particularly large selection of video game titles or DVDs for sale. It's a small shop. You may or may not find what you are looking for there so I advise calling ahead if you are in search for a specific title. But let me now tell you what I really like about Game Centre: They are one of the few video game stores in Toronto that carry rare and hard to find video games. You would normally have to go to eBay to find an original copy of ICO for the PS2 but oh look! Game Centre has a copy right there in their rare game display case! When I was looking for a copy of Fatal Frame 3 and no one else in Toronto had a copy new or used Game Centre had it brand new and in quantity. So yeah, before you pay some crazy price for a hard to find video game on eBay I suggest calling up Game Centre first to see if they got a copy in stock. I recommend this store. I do however wish they had a computerized inventory so customers would know exactly what is in stock and what is not. The place is definitely worth checking out if you are downtown looking to buy a video game or two. read more

This is the best game store in Toronto when it comes to current generation releases for cheap, below MSRP prices. Their service is friendly, they'll special order, and they occasional have extremely rare items. They do lack a little in the import department, or early 90s/80s/early systems compared to A&C Games. But when they do receive one of these items, their prices are cheaper than anywhere else; including online. With only a few worthy game shops in the entire city, this is definitely a downtown gem. read more

Very decent prices, nice selection of older / used games and consoles - limited print games can often be found here as well. It's rare to find small independent game shops these days, let alone shops that actually have decent prices. When all the chain stores were increasing the price of their games vis-a-vis the USD currency fluctuations, Game Centre maintained their prices. In fact, they were even offering some better prices on some of the more obscure games that I was looking at. The nice thing about the shop is that they really don't up-sell you on useless warranties on discs, accessories or trade-ins. They also don't waste time asking you to sign up for a membership card. This was my go-to place in Toronto to buy video games. I never bought from anywhere else. I used to go in there every few weeks, if not to buy, to just look around and see what was new. They have a great selection of used video games, consoles, dvds and blurays. Their preowned section of ps3 titles run around $2-20 each. The shop workers all are very knowledgeable. They all seem like gamers themselves and can be a little awkward to chat with, but are great people. My best purchase from the store was a Beatles Rock Band Limited Edition set, with guitar, mic, drum set and game all for $35. If you look hard enough you'll find alot of hidden gems. read more

I don't play many video games anymore and I've slowed down on my blu-ray collection but I do have to say that when I was at my peak (when blu-rays beat HD-DVD in the hi-def format battle), this was my go to place. The selection of used games and blu-rays were top-notch and when you compared their prices to the giants being EB Games/Game Stop or Future Shop & Best Buy, they can't be beat. They do carry unopened titles as well and they often but them on sale more frequently and sooner than the giants. In addition, you can buy your extra game controllers or replace your Guitar Hero controller from here. On top of their prices, their staff is always friendly and will help you look for any obscure titles that you have in mind. I have been coming to Game Centre for the best part of last 8 years. It has been the go-to store for all my new and use video game needs. I can't really think of anything negative about this place. This place is an example of a local mom/pop kind of store, except instead of mom/pop, it is run by cool dudes like yourself. And they always take steps to improve their service. Their new facebook page is outstanding, they have just moved to a bigger and better suite, and they still offer the same great selection of games. I cant say much about their movie rental/selling side, mainly because I don't come there to rent stuff or buy movies. Do yourself a favor, buy/trade your video games here. Went there on a recommendation today: not a bad selection of old games, and prices are generally competitive with the other indie game stores around the area for current gen stuff, but does not blow anyone out of the water. The staff were a bit stand-offish when I visited (though I suppose people have their bad days), and I was not a fan of the cluttered setup, and a lack of any real return policy on stuff (exchange only) is a real bummer. I've been a customer of Game Center for over 9 years. The csr's are friendly and they know a fair amount about many of the products they are selling. The prices are close or the same as EB GAMES. They also have a great selection of dvds/blurays/gaming products. I've never had a bad experience with them and always go there for new releases. Why am I giving them only 4 stars? For a few reasons. 1: They don't have millions of suckers giving them games for $1.00 each like EB GAMES does, so they won't have 1000 copies of Black Ops to sell when they lower the price. Stuff flies fast off the shelves, so you might miss out on the great deal they are offering, limited quantities,etc... 2: They don't have daily game specials like other places have periodically, something they've always lacked over the years. So if you are anti-EBGAMES and want to shop at an independent I would say this store is the best in Toronto for your video game needs. read more

I put two games on hold during their Boxing Week sale on January 2 for my sons. I went back on January 4 to pay for the games - which they still kept in their "on hold" drawer for me. However, I was told that their sale was over January 3 so I could not get the "buy one get one free" on these games! They wouldn't honour it. I spoke with three people who told me the same thing. Ricardo the manager told me he could only give me a discount. How ridiculous! That's really bad customer service! I will NEVER go back there again. If they had put those two games back into their display case I could understand. But they should honour the same price as it was technically purchased during their sale period! I recently sold a used PSMove bundle with 2 extra controllers (one new in package) and an assortment of PS3 games to Game Centre. I called ahead to find out if they purchased PSMove accessories and was pleasantly surprised to get a quote over the phone. They had offered me $60 over the phone but said we could discuss in person. This is respectable service as I wouldn't want to make the trip all the way there to find out they weren't offering in the range I was looking for. Other major competitors will not give a quote over the phone. The store is in a shopping center on Yonge Street and is not street facing. My only complaint is that it is in the back of a shopping center and was not very big. The staff were very courteous and looked over what I was offering relatively quickly. They offered me $100 for all the items which after doing some quick math in my head and what they were going to sell it for I decided it was reasonable. The games were mostly old games except for red dead redemption and modern warfare 2. I will definitely return here to purchase games and sell any used equipment I may have. Great store! This is one of the few game stores that actually has fair prices! You can find many great games in the $10-$20 range and their selection is quite large. Plus nothing costs more than it should, so you never feel like you're being ripped off. They don't have much in the way of retro games but their selection of games for modern consoles is impressive.
