Staple in Indee. Always good food. Service is okay. Ordered last week and got it to go since no dine in during Covid. We got 4 lunch specials and the sauce from all of the had slopped out the boxes and into the bag. We almost lost all the meals due to the bag giving out due to sogginess. Definitely need to find a solution to this as jts not the first time. read more

This place isn't terrible or dirty. It just wasn't overly authentic. The kung pao chicken wasn't spicy. (I'd recommend asking for more spice!) My chow mein noodles were soggy. But it is similar to the Chuong Garden in Manchester--I'd guess the same owners. I like Manchester's Chuong Garden better for some reason. Maybe it has slightly better staff or slightly better food. I can't really put my finger on it. The restaurant did, however, satisfy my Chinese food cravings, and for that, I am grateful. read more

The menu is large and the staff is very accommodating to allergies. The wait time for food is typically short but obviously fluctuates depending on the time of day. Unfortunately, the wait staff is typically only a couple people. They handle takeouts, seating, serving, and billing, thus it can sometimes be hard to get help if you require it during busy times. The tomato beef and princess chicken are my favorite entrees to get here. Both have an abundance of flavorful sauce that reheats well the next day. The fried rice here is unlike any I've had elsewhere. It's so good! Their soups are also quite delicious, the wonton being my favorite. read more

My daughter and I were in the mood for Chinese food and our favorite place is in Manchester but we had things to do in Independence so we tried this place. All I can say is drive to Manchester. We sat at our table for about 3 minutes and then I had to ask for a menu after making eye contact with staff before. The waitress gave us the menus and left. We ordered when she came back a few minutes later. A few minutes after that we got 1 part of our order and waited for the other part. Staff was MIA until they brought us the bill and asked if we needed a box. No one asked how it was our if needed anything. Food was ok but again better in Manchester. read more

My family has been eating here since they opened ~15+ years ago. Food quality is generally good. But be warned that if you order takeout -BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR ORDER BEFORE YOU LEAVE. It is very frustrating that they repeatedly mess up orders or completely forget to include the appetizers or rice that you ordered AND paid for. Unfortunately not a one time occurrence. Y'all. I love this restaurant. I moved across the country a few years ago, and every time I come back to the area, I go here, because in my opinion, this is the best Chinese restaurant I've ever been to. I get so annoyed every time I go out for Chinese and it's bad, because I already know a place where they make good chinese, it's just far away. No, it's not Authentic Chinese. It's American Chinese. Those are two distinctly different cuisine styles, and if you're looking for Authentic Chinese in Independence, IA, who are you and what are you doing? Don't get me wrong, I lived in central China for a grip and would go nuts over a place that just *does the dang thing* with enoki mushrooms, but I recognize there's not really a market for that in Independence. This is the best American Chinese I've ever had. Period. The Happy Family is amazing. The crab rangoons are the best I've ever had, and have totally spoiled me to other crab rangoons (Panda Express should shutter their doors in shame that they'll never be as good as Choung Garden). The eggrolls are pretty good, but are truly elevated when dipped in hot mustard. I've been going there for like, two decades, and sure, sometimes service is a touch slow, but I *much* prefer that to having a waitron come check on me every few minutes. The people that work there are super nice, but not overly familiar, which, again, that's perfect. The prices are sensible. I've never had an experience with them where dishes are dirty or gnats are present, and I've been there probably hundreds of times at this point. I'm just saying, I go here every chance I get, and you should, too. read more

Chung Garden never fails to impress. The portions are generous, the flavors are bold and the prices are reasonable. I like spicy, and unlike so many other Midwestern Chinese restaurants this one means it when you select the items with the little pepper icon. Personally I can recommend the Mongolian beef and their garlic chicken. Outstanding meals! If I had a complaint it would be that when I ate there today, the egg drop soup seemed a bit too salty. read more
