Not far from Irby in the Wirral sits this homely and very British farm shop. My love for farm shops is very transparent. I have always been fond of family run independent business'. There is a sense of good old fashioned warmth and personality to places like this. Here you can find home grown fresh organic vegetables and in the summer asparagus. What they can't provide on this farm they source from other local farmers to make sure that whatever you buy here is still very much local. The deli counter ooozes with a big selection of tasty treats, cheese, fresh olives and antipasti to name but a few. A trained butcher is at hand on the meat counter to discuss your plans for dinner and advise you accordingly. All other goodies such as foodie gifts, heavenly cakes, fat puddings, luxury groceries, plentiful vegetable boxes amongst other things are available for your foodie loving tummies. This is definitely a place for all those who love food. They are proactive and are very receptive towards suggestions as to new things they should stock. Not that the selection available right now is shabby at all. Good to see this forward thinking mentality, shows they really do care about what they are doing and there is a passion that goes behind the whole operation. Church Farm is really very very good. An organic working farm, with friendly animals and a play area including a maze, go-karts, slides and a sandpit. There is a farm shop selling home-grown and locally produced organic fruit and vegetables - they were Winner of 2009 Wirral Tourism Award, and 2009 North West Fine Food award for Best Vegetable (asparagus). Plus there is the cosy Munch coffee shop - I could have stayed in here for hours. There is a charge to go around the farm, but the kids will love it and get the opportunity to feed a goat, ride on a tractor and take a walk. At the right time of year, the farm offers Easter Egg Hunts, Santa Experience events and at Halloween the bloodchilling Scareshow. If you are looking for a venue for a children's party, then look no further. Church Farm also hosts educational visits, tailored to each school's curriculum. read more

It's places like Church Farm that remind me how privileged I am to have a house on the Wirral. Coupled with West Kirby beach and the Wirral Way, there are some truly breathtaking places around, and it's also a great and healthy environment to bring up children in! Church farm is great for a family day out as they have all sorts of bits and bobs to keep the kids buys, such as mazes, play areas and great, friendly animals! They sell a range of locally grown organic products as well as a range of preserves, cakes, teas, and other bits and bobs that would make the likes of River Cottage wet their pants with excitement. A must for all organic food lovers and those that want to take the kids for a nice day out! I would thoroughly recommend visiting here and West Kirby beach if you want a fantastic day out! read more

Church Farm is so good that it has inspired me to start writing reviews of places online! The staff are great; friendly, approachable and helpful. They give the impression that they really care, which is a rare enough thing nowadays. The shop sells good quality stuff; I see one or two references to high price - I can only say that the stuff they sell is certainly good quality, higher-price stuff, but I have seen most of it for sale at rather higher prices elsewhere (eg the Tracklemans stuff) so I think they are avoiding overcharging. Really, their prices are OK and you will appreciate the service. The coffee shop is very nice; one of the best coffees on the Wirral, again at a fair price, and they understand that a 'large' drink should be large. It has the added benefit of beingin a lovely location and being a great stop-off point for walking the footpaths and countryside nearby, where you will have the best access to the local nature and the finest, most beautiful views on the Wirral. read more

Terrible. If I wanted to go to a farm shop I would have gone to a farm shop and not taken my children to a place like this. I was charged to get in and no-one told me that as a private party was also visiting the farm more than half the attractions were closed to the public. The Farm itself was nothing special and in some places dangerous with bits of metal and planks of wood left lying around. The animals that were there were again nothing that you can not see just a few miles up the road at the Tam O Shanter farm for free. The staff at the farm ( where we actually saw any) were rude, unhelpful and most definitely not child friendly. I will not be returning to Church Farm and would NOT recommend it to anyone. read more

Church Farm has a well stocked but pricey shop. There is a cafe attached to the shop which does sandwiches and soup. It's a nice place to pop out for lunch. Children will like the farm and usually there is an opportunity to see some of the animals. At certain times of the year (Christmas, Easter, Halloween) they do rides on a tractor through the farm for children - these tend to get booked up in advance. read more

Initially set up as an award-winning organic farm shop (Soil Association Best UK Farm Shop winner: 2004), Church Farm has developed into a community hub - offering a wide range of events and activities in addition to its broad selection of foodstuffs. The location is wonderful, with panoramic views of the Dee Estuary, and the spire of nearby Thurstaston Church in the background, so after taking a look around the shop, or having had a break at the new 'Munch' coffee shop, its a perfect starting point for further exploration along the Wirral Way, or to the Thurstaston Ranger Centre down by the cliffs. The produce is of first-rate quality, but can tend to be a bit on the pricey-side (when compared to discounting supermarkets) largely because the farm's usual clientele is drawn from the wealthier bracket inhabiting west Wirral. Well worth a look though, particularly for the wide range of (well-priced) pottery goods and garden paraphernalia on display in the car park. read more
