Mark Hewitt has made it his pluriennal mission in life to gain both trust and respect of the homeless in the Abilene/Midland area. His Ministries have started with a crazy idea of helping the homeless with free food/clothing/health care/job hunting/moral and spiritual support. And it is now one of the most flourishing ministries in the area. Completely run on a voluntary basis, it offers 1 comforting and flavourful meal per day to those in need. It allows 15 minutes per week into their free thrift store, filled to capacity with great clothes and shoes for all shapes/sizes/ages and sex. It allows those who are not covered by a health insurance to access prime care for free, be it a dental need, a routine Dr. appointment, a mammography, an optometrist check-up... All funded by the good heart of the common citizen and his/her need to do as the Lord say "help those in need, for they shall help you gain the greatest richness upon earth". I only wish there were more ministries as loving and caring as this and less elitarian ones across the globe.

My wife and I started going to Rise Church in 2019. This is this best thing that ever happened in…read moreour lives. We learned the true meaning of Christianity. We learned that Christ came here not to condemn but to be merciful. We learned that none of us are perfect , and it is by mercy and grace that we are saved. Sermons preached at Rise come from the Word of God, and not someone else's opinion of what they think it means to be a Christian. We have learned so much and we are grateful to have a church here in Abilene that is truly concerned about others. We have seen so many lives changed through this church and highly recommend it.

Once the veil is completely torn off your eyes you can no longer excuse the behavior. I get that no church is perfect but to exploit drugs addicts or people with "heart problems" is a whole different evil. Money is at the heart of this church. ​

I'm not Episcopalian, but this Church in conjunction with the Abilene Arts provides FREE concerts…read morein their church. Season runs from September till May. Recitals last about 1.5 hours. The acoustics are fabulous, not a bad seat in the house. Pews are padded as to not be uncomfortable. This last concert was an Honors Recital of the three University music schools. Wide variety of talent in this town. Beautiful music, quite entertaining and enlightening evening. I encourage all to give it a try, you will not be disappointed. My hats off to Heavenly Rest, for opening their doors for these free concerts. The stained glass windows are spectacular! New Testament is on first floor, Old Testament is up high. I wish there was a booklet available to show the artwork of these windows! Truly amazing!!
