We found the property on Airbnb…read more It's a 300 year old thatched roof cottage. 2 bedrooms (a master with a queen bed and another room with twin beds) one bath, a family room, and a kitchen. It just looks and feels what you think of when you think Irish Cottage. The cool thing is you can stay there for 2 nights and you don't have to rent the whole week...although you definitely should. And will kick yourself like I am for not spending more time there. In 20 minutes you can walk the parimeter of the whole town. The bonus is there is access to Kells Priory a mere 5 minutes walk from the house. It is sooooo cool to go around there and look at the ruins. There are two abandoned mills to look at too. There is a cool pub that makes pizza, called Shirley's. Kells is close to the medieval town of Kilkenny. You could drive to Wicklow, Waterford, Wexford, whatever from there. Closeby is Stoneyford which has a cheese shop and good take away Indian food. The owners of the property are right next door and are suuuper cool.

It is an easy 15 minute walk downtown, and if you don't want to walk the city bus (with helpful bus drivers) stops right outside. Katherine is as nice and helpful as can be; our room was spacious, clean, and very comfortable, and breakfast was delicious. The breakfast room overlooks her lovely garden. I needed help calling the Garda office in Cahir to obtain a copy of a report we'd made about a stolen license plate, and she kindly called them for me. If I am lucky enough to return to Kilkenny I would certainly stay there again.

I'm sure it has not changed very much over the years, but it's kept extremely well and with a lot of love, I'm sure. Our bedroom, the blue room, was beautiful, very comfortable and had two great views. The study and dining room both had welcoming fires in the evening. The dining room even had one in the morning while you enjoyed breakfast. The breakfasts were probably the best I've had in an Irish guesthouse. A huge array of tasty fruit, including fresh raspberries from the garden. Homemade bread, freshly squeezed orange juice and excellent coffee. A full Irish if you wanted it or a smaller selection of items from said full Irish. Bobbie ensured you were catered for. We opted for the five course meal in the evening on the day we arrived. It was wonderful. We shared the dining table with another couple, who were also celebrating their wedding anniversary. They were regulars of Lorum, that's how much they love Lorum Old Rectory. A testament to Bobbie and the service she provides. I look forward to returning to Lorum. And recommending it to anyone who will listen to me.

Eamonn, Nicola and their cute son were gracious hosts. The room was as beautiful as pictured and there were even robs in the closet, a great binder full of Kilkenny sites and information, a fridge, a French press, wine glasses and some chocolates. The continental and cooked to order breakfast was great. I highly recommend staying here if you don't mind being a 5 min drive from the city.

We we…read moretold them that we'd arriving late two weeks prior to arrival, we were told it was no problem. However the day before, we we're told to arrive earlier or they couldn't accommodate us. Well we decided to stay elsewhere and come to find out, they still tried to get our money. Apparently, B&B Ireland and the B& Bs have you over a barrel if you decide not to stay at a particular B&B. You're responsible for 100% of the fee if you cancel. Less than a week prior to arrival. However, how do you know if it's good unless you are there? Trust me, some places are good and others not so much. These owners are in accommodating and greedy. Instead of going out of their way to accommodate, they make you tailor your vacation to their schedule. And if you don't like it, too bad... You have to pay. Well, I've since sent my credit card company after them while also submitting a fraud affidavit for the United States Federal Trade commission. This type of policy is not legal and these people need to be held accountable for it. Avoid this place if you want a stress-free vacation.

The owner, Julie, was as nice as a person can be (she even called someone to find me and pick me up when I left my passport in the room!) Also, I had one of the best breakfasts I've ever had there: a smoked salmon scramble with tomatoes and chives. If you're in the area, I highly recommend this place; you won't regret it.

Its a popular hotel, and parking had extended across the grass lawns by late Saturday afternoon, as there was a Poker Classic on. Anyway, down to the food menu. Part of the stay is complimentary tea & scones on arrival; ours were still steaming they were so fresh from the over, yummy. Later then, two grilled sirloin steaks, mushrooms, onions, bowl of chips, side-salad if you ask nicely, accompanied by their new house red, a False Bay Shiraz at just €18, which washed it all down just nicely. The steaks were succulent right through. We chose to share a dessert then, a big slice of chocolate cake with choc sauce drooling over it. The choc sauce is tasty as its made in-house, not so the cake part; bought in apparently, a bit shall we say, saw-dusty ! They do good coffee though, and the full Irish next morning was delivered promptly to our room (extra charge of course) which just filled us up the more. This is a great voucher deal, watch out for it.
