As well as I came back for a few nights at the end of my trip in Ireland. Rooms are lovely and huge and well appointed. Restaurant is beyond delicious and the Irish breakfast buffet is bountiful, decadent And delicious. The staff throughout the hotel and restaurant make you feel pampered and important. Also everyone is very informative with information on things to do in the general area and day trips. Countryside is lovely and charming and a true castle is across the way ..

We were staying nearby Borris and needed to find somewhere to watch Ireland play in the Six Nations. Cue the Step House. As we were stragglers in terms of arriving in time, we still managed to find some good seats. There was a good crowd and a great atmosphere here for the rugby. A bit of banter with one of the barmen during the game paid off post match when he sorted us out with a table for some dinner. Then he waited on us really fantastically. Really attentive. And the food was great too.

Bar and waterfront is lovely, and great breakfast. I've been to multiple birthdays here with 10-20 people and they did an excellent job. Sadly, it is not that welcoming to kids, they used to have a small indoor playground. I also have been to a wedding there, but I bearly remember it. It is a little bit pricy though, so with a 3-course meal for 4-5 people families, be prepared to pay approx. €100.

We DID do a Falconry experience that was really cool. (I recommend it) The bar was great. The high point of the stay was the dinner we ate at the Hermione's restaurant. I had a ribeye steak with a pressed potato. Both very good. Our server Glenn was outstanding. Out of every dinning experience that I have had in my entire life, Glenn would rank in the top 5 of the servers. Can't say enough about the service.

We had one castle room and one carriage room for our stay. Both rooms were quaint and well maintained. The gardens around the property are gorgeous and wonderful to explore during nice weather. The only thing to note is that in off-season the main restaurant is only open on the weekends and the tea service is not available during the week. While we enjoyed the food at Hermione's, the day we stayed there was a group event closing the main restaurant so we had to eat in the bar area. Most of the activities are off the property which wasn't very clear as we approached the date of our stay. We ended up visiting the National Stud Farm (about 30 minutes drive) and the clay pigeon shooting (about 40 minutes drive). Highly recommend both activities and really appreciate the staff helping us arrange these activities. The downstairs bar area is open late with a delicious charcuterie and board games are available to use by the fireplace which was a fun way to spend the later evening hours. Highly recommend staying at Kilkea Castle Hotel!

The Carraig has the best wi-fi internet we've found in the town, giving us a chance to remain in touch with home in the U.S. The staff here is the best, friendly, helpful. They're open from about 8 AM until late, and can pull a really nice pint (or half-pint if you prefer) of Guinness, as well as a selection of other beverages. We haven't had occasion to use the hotel facilities, but no doubt they'll measure up to the downstairs. Thanks to all the staff for providing a home away from home.

The bar served quite nice food and although i didn't order any my sister ordered a set menu and chose Bbq chicken wings which were enough to feed half her family and Chicken curry and rice which came with chips and again were enjoyed by all! The tv remote control was broken with batteries hanging out and no back so everytime i had to change the channel i had to search through the bedsheets. The beds were comfortable although the mattresses were a bit sunken. Probably by all the guests that lay in them. The cost for the night was €89 for the room for myself and my two children one of which was a teenager and breakfast was included. Breakfast was adequate and staff again were polite, helpful and when i asked for poached eggs i got them quickly and just the way i wanted them. The only negative about the breakfast was that there was not a great choice in pastries or healthy options such as fruit and yogurts but the full Irish was ok. When we asked at 9.30 if there were any more pastries we were told there were none. All in all it was a nice hotel if not a bit lacking in the little extras. Carlow town is not far from the hotel on the Portlaois road and if you drive about 10 minutes you will find the Brownhill Dolmen which has been around for 4000 years.

The price was reasonable, the pool was clean and gym looked it too! The location of the hotel is good if you are just there for a stop off, it is beside a shopping area. It's a bit outside the town for a social drinking kind of night. The food was fabulous, i ordered a set menu, in which fed me and half my family, which was good value. Most hotels offer shower only rooms after remodeling. Breakfast in the hotel was amazing; included fresh fruits and juices, the traditional Irish entrees or you could opt for pancakes. Every meal includes potatoes; good potatoes. Something special about this hotel is the lavender balm. I meant to request more before I left. You rub this on your wrists or neck before bed and it is supposed to relax you and promote better sleep. It smells so good.

Upon arriving I was immediately greeted by Karen. She made me feel so very Welcome. She explained everything about the hotel and the town. Chelsie also helped me get checked in also. Great Coffee and Toast also. The chef Steve is an amazing chef and so professional. He made sure I was well taken care of. He genuinely cares about the guests. The dinning room is very cozy and very well set up. Murphy's Hotel is located in the village of Tinahely , County Wickow. It should be noted I am originally from Dublin, Ireland, lived in the United States for over thirty years and served all over the world with the United States Marines all over the world.
