With…read moreso many interconnected trails winding through different neighborhoods, it's easy to have a different experience every time you visit. I also like that you can step into a nearby neighborhood and grab something to eat before continuing your hike. Compared to Schenley or Frick Park, it also tends to be less crowded, making it a great option if you're looking for a quieter, more peaceful walk. That said, the trails are not as well maintained as many of Pittsburgh's other parks. Some sections are in great condition, while others have overgrown vegetation, uneven rocky terrain, steep drop-offs, and occasional hazards like broken glass. I noticed small pieces of glass along the Archery Trail, so I would recommend wearing hiking boots or sturdy athletic shoes rather than thin-soled sneakers. Because of the terrain, I think this park is much better suited for walking and hiking than for running. Most of the trails are not wheelchair accessible and may be difficult for young children, older adults, or anyone with mobility challenges. Even with the overgrowth, the scenery is beautiful, and many areas were filled with fragrant plants and wildflowers. I didn't personally see any poison ivy during my visit, but it's always a good idea to stay aware of your surroundings. One area that could definitely be improved is restroom access. There are very few restrooms throughout the park, and one restroom that had been open during a previous visit was locked in the middle of the day on a Sunday. Adding a few portable restrooms near the busiest trailheads would make a big difference for visitors. Parking is easier than I expected. While there aren't many dedicated parking lots, there is plenty of street parking throughout the surrounding neighborhoods. Depending on which trails you choose, you may also come across areas where unhoused individuals have set up encampments. During my visits, everyone kept to themselves and I didn't have any negative interactions, but it's something visitors should be aware of and another reason to stay aware of your surroundings in such a large urban park. The observatory has unfortunately been closed each time I've visited, but the park frequently hosts community events that are worth checking out. It's encouraging to see ongoing improvements, and I hope the city continues investing in this park because it has so much potential. Overall, Riverview Park is a beautiful place to explore and one of Pittsburgh's most expansive trail systems. While there are areas that could benefit from better maintenance, additional restrooms, and continued safety improvements, it's still well worth visiting. With a little more attention, I truly think it has the potential to become one of the best parks in Pittsburgh.

I took the perimeter trail down the hill and stumbled upon the hidden pond and little falls trail. It was super peaceful and beautiful there! I also saw tons of beautiful flowers and even spotted a butterfly. The sound of birds singing was lovely to hear during my walk. If you need a rest there are a few benches along the trail. I really enjoyed exploring this place and will be back to explore further.

They usually are once a month during the summer and are great events. They have changed from year to year where the setup was but this time the stage was further down and right on the water. We went to see Brownie Mary and Good Brother Earl. They both put on a great show and the energy from the crowd was so fun. There is plenty of room to throw down a blanket or set up your chairs to enjoy the show and you can be right up close or even set up up the hill and still hear the music and well. They have a wide open space where several food trucks were set up. They had wine and beer available for purchase as well. There are porta potties or you can walk a bit further and use the real bathrooms inside the building. Parking can be tough for popular events. This park is great whether you come for an event or just to enjoy the space. It's right on the water and there are nice areas to just walk around. There's the playground for the kids (or kids at heart). They put in some of the fun giant chairs where you can just relax and enjoy the view.

Riverfront provides plenty of spectacular nature views and a launch point for small boats. The park is kept pristine with onsite workers, small businesses, and constant oversight. I don't often make it to this part of town but I saw the sign for Pleasant Valley Park a few months…read moreago when driving by and vowed to return for a hike. It was a warmer fall day when I returned. I had checked out the park map online (easily accessible at http://www.pvpark.org/) beforehand. It's a smaller park with only a few miles of trails. But the trails are well marked and maintained. I followed the longer Hank's Trail and while the trail is narrow in spots, I never felt lost. There was some mild elevation but overall the hike was easy. Pleasant Valley Park is good for hiking if you just want to get out into the woods. There aren't really any outstanding features that I saw (like waterfalls or rock formations) but it's a great place to escape for a couple hours.

The life guards are pleasant and attentive to the swimmers. My daughter got a snack at the refreshment stand and the prices were not too bad. I was simply looking for a park where I could enjoy my lunch outside and I was near Bellevue Memorial Park. Google found it for me, I had no idea it was even there. After I enjoyed my lunch, I walked around the shelter where I had set up shop because I thought I saw a trail. I ended up finding a map posted in the park that actually listed several miles of trails that mostly lead through the woods. I returned a week later when I had the time to devote to some exploration. The trails themselves are not blazed but they are easily navigable and there are signs at all the trailheads. Most are not loops but meet up with other trails and you're never far from a road. I wandered the squirrel, falcon, fox, herron, nettle, deer, salamander and rabbit trails. The trails are well-maintained. Expect some elevation as I encountered lots of ups and downs. Be cautious, too, of water crossings. I also saw signs for a health and fitness trail that I will be back for once the weather is warmer. There is a small parking lot by the pool that is I think the easiest spot if you're there for the trails but there are also places to park along the sides of the road. I imagine in the warmer months (especially on the weekends) parking will be hard to come by with both the playground, ballfield and pool sharing this space. I had a good morning of hiking, though. I heard birds during my hike and even spotted a blue jay. Several deer crossed my path while, ironically, I was on the deer trail. Ramps were also set up throughout the trails for mountain bikers. While I like knowing that I'm not far from a main road it can also take away from my enjoyment of my hike when the songbirds are competing with the traffic. But deeper into some of the trails it is easier to get lost in the nature surrounding you.
