She is on the road to recovery at the moment, but has sustained a couple of injuries when she has fallen in her efforts to do more than her condition allows, one of which resulted in her losing her dentures, which fractured when landed beneath her. From the outset and upon entering the reception, I was extremely surprised at the personal service I received as well as the welcoming atmosphere. Dr Lesti was extremely informative regarding my treatment and ensured I was comfortable and at ease. I've been going to this dentist all my life, and only through recent discussion with friends about their own personal dental experiences have I realised how wonderful this dentist is. So I thought I'd let you all know! One of those lovely old houses along Cathedral Road is the setting for this practise. You find yourself in a cosy hallway and front room waiting room, where there are coffees (lattes, americanos, cappuccinos) and soft drinks on offer. There is also free wi-fi, should you feel the need to Yelp while you wait. The waiting room has a bay window to trees outside, so is an exceptionally lovely and calming space to wait in. The receptionist is lovely, and has that rare ability to make idle chat seem genuine. When you're actually in the chair, there's a screen showing undersea documentaries to distract you from all other goings on. The service is always relaxed, friendly, and very professional. You are not pressured into getting any extra work done, as I've heard a few people complain about with private care, and the price is far more reasonable than what other people I know have paid. In short, this is a dentist I'm not scared to phone up and get an appointment at.

I am actually amazed that I didn't find this dental practice on here with rave reviews, as the Dr. in question is 'quite a guy'! A pleasant small operation with scruples. In saying this, I mean that Dr. Guy doesn't try to over sell, over subscribe or basically 'pull' your teeth out for any other reason than 'it needs' to come out. I have had dentists in the past who have probably looked at their calendar, checking to see that they have a holiday coming up and on viewing a horde of patients in 'the book' decide to 'make them pay' for that skiing trip in Switzerland. This guy gives you the bare facts, and you know that it is the honest truth in relation to your mouth, cause he even goes as far as to encourage a more low key approach, rather than an entire 'shock and awe' job. And, unlike a lot of dentists out there who must get satisfaction in beaming you with radiation as soon as you sit on that dentist's chair - as well as making an extra few bob from those excessive X-rays - he asks you if that is what you'd like for a more thorough check up or not, otherwise, he checks around and does a little bit of 'probing' visually for those nasty little cavities that could be causing a fate worse than death itself. Not a bad price tag attached either. £30 for a clean and £70 for a filling. Fortunately I haven't had the need for an entire overhaul or excavation treatment so don't know whether I'd have to take out a major loan or not for that piece of construction. All in all, not a painful experience. Friendly chit chat and he knows not to ask questions when one has a mouth full of steel!

Ayurvedic massages are meant to be incorporated into part of an overall treatment programme, often also incorporating yoga and nutritional advice. The practitioner at Gaia starts off by having a consultation with you about your lifestyle and then goes on to suggest massage treatments, and offers advice about yoga practice and nutrition. What I am most keen to tell everyone about, however, is the divine Ayurvedic Shirodhara treatment available here. This is also known as the 'third eye drip', which sounds far less appealing than it actually is! Basically, you start off enjoying a face, neck and scalp massage, and then the practitioner sets off a flow of warm oil onto your third eye on your forehead, creating the most unbelievable feeling of relaxation and peacefulness. I would actually go as far as to say this treatment totally transports you elsewhere, inducing a kind of dream like state without actually sending you to sleep. The one condition had to be they were prepared to put me to sleep to have any treatment including check-ups. What a lucky break I have been going faithfully to see Nicola for the last 15 years and have never missed an appointment. The surgery staff are very helpful and there is an air of calm everywhere. When I finally had my abcess done Nicola said I would drift off and wouldn't remember a thing. As I was going under I was worried as nothing seemed to be happening. I tugged her arm and said "Cardiff City won the FA Cup in 1927 I'm still here..." then thankfully woke up to an abcess free life. I think I fell in love with her then... I started going to the surgery when it was still at it's City Road address. The move to West Grove a few years ago has been a positive one from my point of view. The only negative point is that we have had to move reluctantly from an NHS dentist to a private practice. I think Nicola held it off as long as possible before giving in to harsh financial reality. I get a lot of information from the surgery and organise my visits by email which is great for me.
