But thanks to an injection of money from various agencies, including the Great Western Ambulance Service, the Avon Air Ambulance has come into being. It's a smaller bright yellow helicopter (one of the older type used in Wales to be precise) than the Wiltshire one and it cannot fly at night, but it can manoeuvre into tricky spaces in the city and can easily land at Bristol's Frenchay Hospital. It must be remembered though that it is, along with most air ambulances in the country, a charity and relies on donations from the public to keep it going. So do what you can and rest assured that should you need it, then it will be there (as long as it's in daylight hours!

Our crew attend the most critical incidents across the region by helicopter or by one of our two critical care cars. When someone is seriously ill or injured time is of the essence, and they need expert help fast. This is where we come in. The GWAAC Critical Care Team consists of a highly trained and experienced Pilot, a Specialist Paramedic in Critical Care and a Critical Care Doctor. From emergency blood transfusions to roadside amputations or treating cardiac arrests, our crew specialise in Pre-Hospital Emergency Medicine and Trauma Medicine, bringing the skills and expertise of an Emergency Department to the patient. In 2018 the Critical Care Team attended 1,887 jobs: by helicopter and by one of our critical care cars, our busiest year to date. On average we attend 5 incidents every day, but some days it's many more. As a charity we need to raise over £3 million each year to stay operational, but receive no day to day funding from the Government or National Lottery. This means we rely on the generosity of our donors and supporters to keep flying.

Being in the centre…read moreof this commercial area of Splott makes a visit to the dentist an entirely convenient exercise, even if its not exactly as alluring as the deli, or the florist! This area is served by a number of buses (No's: 10, 11, 12), and there's free on street parking if you prefer to drive. Mark Roberts Dental Surgery are an NHS dentist, making the service they provide a lot more affordable than private dental health care, especially for those on benefits. The stock a good selection of information and leaflets explaining costs and provisions, as well as leaflets promoting dental insurance, (this can be bought for as little as £7.50 a month)... very useful! I recently had a crown returned to where it was meant to be, (I somehow managed to ping it a little too hard whilst flossing, and the darned thing made a bid for freedom, scurrying off across the floor and nestling itself amid a pile of reading material that is often to be found piled up beneath my sink). I was given a check up and the crown was glued back in place, and instead of the usual hideous prices, I was only charged £16.50 for the lot! (I would have paid in excess of £70.00 at my old private dentists!).

He was fantastic with my daughter when she was tiny and all the way through her childhood. We all switched to going to Mark Roberts. He's very non- interfering. If it doesn't need doing he won't make you have it done. He pandered to my paranoia about having my wisdom tooth removed and filled it lots of times even though he did think it should come out. Eventually I gave in and actually it was hardly bad at all. I know the dentist isn't ever actually fun, but having one you can trust is most important. Twenty-three years later we still trust him.

I finally submitted to the pain of a raging abcess and went to see a dentist almost 15 years ago…read more The dentist was local and plucked from the Yellow Pages. The one condition had to be they were prepared to put me to sleep to have any treatment including check-ups. What a lucky break I have been going faithfully to see Nicola for the last 15 years and have never missed an appointment. The surgery staff are very helpful and there is an air of calm everywhere. When I finally had my abcess done Nicola said I would drift off and wouldn't remember a thing. As I was going under I was worried as nothing seemed to be happening. I tugged her arm and said "Cardiff City won the FA Cup in 1927 I'm still here..." then thankfully woke up to an abcess free life. I think I fell in love with her then... I started going to the surgery when it was still at it's City Road address. The move to West Grove a few years ago has been a positive one from my point of view. The only negative point is that we have had to move reluctantly from an NHS dentist to a private practice. I think Nicola held it off as long as possible before giving in to harsh financial reality. I get a lot of information from the surgery and organise my visits by email which is great for me.

This has been my dental office for the last four years, and I guess that's a testament in itself…read more I've seen both Dr. Gracias and Dr. Koochek, and each time they've been courteous, knowledgeable and efficient (and this applies to the dental hygienists and receptionist as well). Dr. Choochek fitted a night guard for me (yeah, I'm one of those teeth grinders), and it came to a reasonable £50 (they run about $500 back home). If you're looking to get your teeth cleaned, you'll often have to make an appointment a few weeks in advance, as they only visit the office one or two days a week. They even offer beauty services like Botox and Restylane injections - it's nice to know I have the option once my laugh lines get a bit too deep! My only criticism is the Yank on the TV advert can get a bit annoying, but normally you don't have to wait that long, so it's not too much of an issue.

However, as far as you can differentiate, this one is good. The receptionists are very friendly and always willing to help (unlike some receptionists in the Dr on Cathays Terrace who continue their personal conversations when I'm trying to talk to them - I'm not over it). However, they play adverts in the waiting room which are on a loop and so, if your dentist is running behind schedule (or even if they're not; it's not a long loop) you may find yourself going a little bit crazy. If you can tune it out, though, or can bring earphones, it's all good.

I've been going to this dentist all my life, and only through recent discussion with friends about their own personal dental experiences have I realised how wonderful this dentist is. So I thought I'd let you all know! One of those lovely old houses along Cathedral Road is the setting for this practise. You find yourself in a cosy hallway and front room waiting room, where there are coffees (lattes, americanos, cappuccinos) and soft drinks on offer. There is also free wi-fi, should you feel the need to Yelp while you wait. The waiting room has a bay window to trees outside, so is an exceptionally lovely and calming space to wait in. The receptionist is lovely, and has that rare ability to make idle chat seem genuine. When you're actually in the chair, there's a screen showing undersea documentaries to distract you from all other goings on. The service is always relaxed, friendly, and very professional. You are not pressured into getting any extra work done, as I've heard a few people complain about with private care, and the price is far more reasonable than what other people I know have paid. In short, this is a dentist I'm not scared to phone up and get an appointment at.
