Having opted for fish earlier in the day we wanted some other types of meat and this place came though huge for us. I found it through Yelp and my friends and I walked over and was hoping for the best after seeing the reviews and it did not disappoint. We got the Lamb Short ribs, Rabbit and Sausage with breads in it, I forget the name. We also took a beer and soda and everything came in at just over 20€. Each plate came with rice and potatoes(french fires) also. I can't even find the words to describe how good everything was but I would love to come here again. The wait staff was super friend and quick too. I don't know that they spoke english as my friends ordered for us. Delicious!

One of the waiters is not the nicest but everybody else is super friendly. Everything I have tried has been excellent, even the salad is fresh and very tasty. The only thing I would keep away from is desserts, at least the chocolate mousse is not home made but the waiter was honest about it. Food is traditional Portuguese food, preparation and taste is as authentic as you can get. Portions are very generous and the price is really affordable. One serving usually feeds two people easily, you will be full by the end of the meal, I guarantee it! You can ask for a half serving if you are by yourself. The restaurant is non smoking, it can get pretty crowded, socially if you go on the weekends, but the very tasty food is well worth the wait!

Not to say we didn't have alot of good food, but here each dish received high marks. The chanfana is the local special, so would highly recommend you get that. All of the meat was done well... Crispy outside and fall apart, fork tender on the inside. The staff were also very friendly and personable.

Our waitress somehow couldn't take our order in time (she was just going around serving other tables). Other than that it was a nice lunch experience.

Definitely recommend making a reservation, I found it impressive that the hostess's reservation system was essentially a notebook and pen in this digital age. We did not see much of our waiter, since the restaurant was extremely busy and filled up with diners. Standouts: 1. Razor clams - I'll always get these if I see it on the menu. Cooked in this incredible garlic sauce. 2. Fish and seafood cataplana - delicious, tomato-forward seafood stew; I liked the version that we had the night before more which came with rice and was more filling. But this was basically a never-ending bowl of fish, clams, mussels, and shrimp. Add to that the fact that the restaurant like most in Porto did not have A/C and I emerged feeling like I had been sitting in a sauna. Skipped dessert; I had my eye on the Weeel! froyo truck parked outside. One more nit - the metal chairs are not comfortable at all for sitting a long time in.

But this particular fish market was selling only vegetables and jewelry the day we were there, so... Restaurante Palhuca may have looked unassuming at 7:30, but there was a wait by the time we left at 9. Old hands at Portuguese portion sizing by now, we ordered a platter of fried eels to share, along with a couple bowls of soup and a glass of wine. Of course, bread and olives came out too, along with a nice surprise entire wheel of sheep's cheese, and just like that, we were on the road to being overstuffed despite our best efforts. As far as balance goes, this meal was pretty deal. Nice salty crunch to the abundant eel, a pungent tang on the sheep's cheese, a bowl of bread that wasn't that weird cornbread-esque brick we'd occasionally see, and a version of vegetable soup so good we drew it out to eat with the rest of our meal (unfortunately making the cook think we didn't like it - which couldn't be farther from the truth).
