She is actually the wife of the owner's son, so it was nice to have a family member actually conduct the tasting. The wine itself was fairly good. Again, I'm not an expert, but I did think that it was better than average. We ended up just buying a bottle each due to luggage restrictions. The experience was very different to a tasting at the Napa. It's a lot smaller and more intimate. You don't have the nice scenery that you get at Napa, but we spent way more time learning from AJ than we would typically spend at a Napa wine tasting.

First, she was by herself and got distracted a lot. Not her fault, people kept coming in. However, you have a group, the new people can wait until you're done with the customers you're helping. Maybe that's an American idea but we were delayed because she kept having to help people coming in. Second, the tour felt rushed. She gave us some time in the aging room and the vineyard but she felt like she rushed through information. By comparison, our private tour at Couvent des Jacobins felt like the guide wanted to make sure we absorbed as much info as possiblE Third, the wine wasn't great. I love Bordeaux wine and these we're good. I wouldn't say no if you serve them to me at a dinner party. They were nice. But the jacobins wines were better as were the two random glasses we had before our tours in Saint Emilion. This was very good. Just not great.

The classification is renewed every 10 years; unlike the West Bank that was classified in 1855 w/o any renewal. If you would like a visit and do a tasting, it is required to call or email ahead for an appointment. I would also recommend to make sure to request an English Speaker, unless you're fluent in French. The location is confusing with the Canon La Gaffeliere nearby, but take a look at the photos I uploaded, which should be helpful. Parking is available on the side of the road across the street. The tour was short tonight because La Gaffeliere was in middle of their Harvest, so I wasn't able to check out their facility. Vincent, our guide, was wonderful telling us bits of history of their Chateau and took us to O Tour Du 20 (wine shop) in the city of St Emilion where our tasting continued. In the end, I ended up sharing a case with 20% discount (tax) shipped back home. Yum, yum!

The tasting room is situated among seemingly…read moreendless grapevines and has a fantastic rooftop patio to enjoy the weather while trying their wines. The tasting can include either two or four wines. Our group opted to do four tastes which included a choice of either white or rose, followed by three of their reds, including a 100% Merlot, and two different red blends. All four were good, with the final pour, the Château Mauvinon 2021, being our favorite. We had made a reservation ahead of time but it was not very busy when we arrived and could imagine that they might be able to accommodate walk ins. We were also fairly hungry when we arrived and ordered two of their charcuterie boards which were a nice complement to our wine tasting. Overall, a very laid-back tasting in a beautiful environment.

This is a small museum in Bordeaux but it has quite a few interesting artifacts. Things like old…read morewine bottles, (many are full) a canoe built without any nails, lots of various wine making equipment, old business logs, old barrels, and on and on. It's worth a stop just to see the things that they have.

The wife and I kicked off Day 3 of our Bordeaux wine tour at Château d'Issan, a 3rd Growth château…read moreof the Margaux appellation. Château d'Issan was perhaps the most unique château we visited with its castle and moat. More so than any other château, the property possessed a rustic feel that transported me back in time to the 1800's. Our tour guide was friendly and knowledgeable, and had spoke excellent English. One of the highlights of our tour was being able to observe the wine racking process, which we'd heard explained at previous tour stops, but had not witnessed. The other highlight was a tasting of the 2011 Château d'Issan at the end of our tour. All told, D'Issan was an enjoyable stop.
