Regardless of the damages that they (and most other wineries in the area) incurred due to frost, the land was stunning. There were flowers everywhere accompanied by large umbrella pine trees which lined pathways and green shrubs perfectly placed around the buildings and vines. It's easy to say that I was impressed. The Chateau itself is impressive as well. The private buildings are simple though well designed and the buildings used for wine making are modern and efficient as well as classy. We toured the property with the company Bordovino and our tour was great. Charlotte, our Chateau de la Dauphine was amazing and she answered all of our questions and more. At the end, we played a quick game of "name that smell" which proved more difficult than I would have thought. We also got to try a few of their wines which were all delicious! I usually do not enjoy Rose and we ended up buying a bottle. The wine was especially easy to enjoy with a light conscience after learning that the chateau is biodynamic and very environmentally friendly. I wish I could return to Chateau de la Dauphine, but I guess I'll have to settle for scouring the U.S. for their wines.

On the positive side, they have a large and welcoming boutique and a very friendly staff. The fermentation cats are in a large and very modern building, which was a deviation from a lot of the more traditional wineries we visited. Their wines were good, but again, not our favorites. While we got a lot of good information and enjoyed our visit, we may just prefer the more traditional looking châteaux vs the more modern like this one. Nevertheless, you will not be disappointed by your visit.

We opted for the private tour (in English) for €10 more per person than the group tour, and it was well worth it. We got to learn a lot about the history of the Château, walk the grounds, learn more about the rules of the Bordeaux wine region, and see some of the production. You then finish off with trying both their first and second label wines (Château Lascombes and Chevalier Lascombes) in the shop, which was beautifully renovated inside. It's a very different tasting experience than in Napa - it's one in one, slow paced, and a lot more educational. They are more open to visitors than some of the other places in Margaux (ex Château Margaux, Lafite, etc). If you're willing to get a car, I would definitely recommend coming out here (it's about a 45 min drive from the Bordeaux city center).

First, she was by herself and got distracted a lot. Not her fault, people kept coming in. However, you have a group, the new people can wait until you're done with the customers you're helping. She gave us some time in the aging room and the vineyard but she felt like she rushed through information. By comparison, our private tour at Couvent des Jacobins felt like the guide wanted to make sure we absorbed as much info as possiblE Third, the wine wasn't great. I love Bordeaux wine and these we're good. I wouldn't say no if you serve them to me at a dinner party. They were nice. But the jacobins wines were better as were the two random glasses we had before our tours in Saint Emilion. This was very good. Just not great.

The classification is renewed every 10 years; unlike the West Bank that was classified in 1855 w/o any renewal. If you would like a visit and do a tasting, it is required to call or email ahead for an appointment. I would also recommend to make sure to request an English Speaker, unless you're fluent in French. The location is confusing with the Canon La Gaffeliere nearby, but take a look at the photos I uploaded, which should be helpful. Parking is available on the side of the road across the street. The tour was short tonight because La Gaffeliere was in middle of their Harvest, so I wasn't able to check out their facility. Vincent, our guide, was wonderful telling us bits of history of their Chateau and took us to O Tour Du 20 (wine shop) in the city of St Emilion where our tasting continued. In the end, I ended up sharing a case with 20% discount (tax) shipped back home. Yum, yum!

They offered us tastes of at least 8 different things for free. They specialize in smaller, family-run wineries from the St. Emilion region. This is a great place to learn about the wines of this region and buy some things you would otherwise never find in the big stores. They have wines at all prices!

Luckily we came on slow day and there wasnt any tasting going on so they were willing to accomodate us. Since it was just us, it was a very personal tasting experience and we ended up coming home with a couple of bottles. We knew that this was one of the most renouned Chateau's based on the fact that it was mentioned a few times in the TV show Frasier. I did also notice that the airport had a couple of bottles from the estate for sale but didnt look to see the price or which vintage. At the chateau they have a few vintages for sale so depending on your price point you could get certain years that were better than others. I guess will see if we ever open it or decide to sell it later if the price skyrockets.

Luckily while eating at a restaurant for a special dinner, the sommelier informs us that one of the other patrons has left them a bottle of 1986 Chareau Haut Brion and would like to share some with us. Holy moly! I dont know who this patron is but they can just afford to leave Haut Brion laying around? So we split a glass and it's certainly one of the more amazing wines I've ever tried. Earthiness and complexity in both the nose and palate are incredible. Im not sure Im wine educated enough to really describe whats truly going on. What is important is I like it and it's fantastic. I shouldnt get too attached though, it might be cheaper to have a drug habit
