This temple and some of the monks here left a bitter taste in my mouth…read more I attended my friend dad's memorial service at Cherokee Memorial on Sunday 6/23/2024 in Lodi Ca . My friend financial contributions for 9 monks from the hours of 12:30 pm -3pm. The monks were 1:45 one hour and 45 minutes late !!! to the service. When they did arrive a few were standing outside smoking cigarettes, one of the son in law of the deceased asked the monks to step inside the service hall. One of the monks replied " we are waiting for the rest of the monk to arrive". Considering my friend spoke with the head monk weeks prior to her dad's service. He assured her he will take care of the process . To find out the head monk never conveyed the itinerary to Acha (Monks assistant ) or any representative from the temple. There we all sat waiting for the monks arrival and clearly the Acha and the guess speaker were confused on what to do. The Acha , monk assistant didn't know he was to take part in the service. Minutes later the deceased widow asked for his help . Acha took to the microphone and he apologized to the attendees for the confusion and stated he was not aware he was appointed to assist in the funeral service. By the time all the Monks arrived , the speakers hastily rushed to packed a 4 hour service session into the remaining 1:30 one hour and thirty minutes. I over heard a few of the monks discussing amongst themselves " the service they went to in the morning prior , the other family did not have enough money to pay them " . this concludes the reasons for their delay to my friend dad's funeral . This clearly explains these monks at this temple has no compassion to serve their community, their motifs is transactional and greed $$. It is very unprofessional and disrespectful to the bereaved families and friends for what the Monks did, I have no respect . I also went to the Sunday evening monks chanting and Monday morning chanting service as well in the temple. This clearly defines what I have been thinking and the same sentiment with some of my family and friends discussion on our way here . Again at the temple on Sunday some of the monks were late and one sat there with his sunglasses on with a disgruntled demeanor because he didn't want to participate in the chanting . ( we noticed the disgruntled monk sat there the entire session with out uttering a word ) . When it came time to collect the monetary donations , one of the monk announced how much he suggested for us to "donate $100 per monk or $50 per monk is good ". When a lady walked up to place her offering in the collection tray . That same monk made a comment , " I thought it was $100 but it's only $10 bill she is donating ". Then he followed by I was just kidding remarks . Well, not all of us found it amusing to hear him make that type of statement and to belittle that lady . Some of us left the chanting hall after that remarks to sit outside . We came to the same conclusion. Whether the lady donated a penny or any amount $$ the monk should have gratuitously accepted what anyone can contribute. The Monks actions alone show us they do not have the empathetic qualities made for serving the community, their existence here is income based only .

It was such a beautiful and peaceful experience. We loved seeing all the different Buddha statues and the vibrant Tết / Lunar New Year decorations throughout the temple. Everything felt so festive, meaningful, and welcoming. With the sunny weather we've been having lately, it made the visit even more enjoyable and uplifting. If you're in the area, we definitely recommend stopping by. It's a wonderful place to reflect, celebrate, and appreciate the culture and traditions. We always leave feeling grateful and happy.

This is a Vietnamese Buddhist Temple and the prayers are in Vietnamese although it's open to anyone. This place can be packed, and they do have vegetarian food on special occasions. Our first time here (even though I don't speak their language), everyone was friendly and welcome us with open arms.

I've also attended the same church for nearly a decade (Bay Area). Subsequently, my initial feeling was a tug on my heart that said "I miss my family" even though I already knew it was time to spread my wings and find a new church home. Not just for myself, but for my daughter as well. She's 3 1/2, and is just now beginning to understand things so it's important as her mother to allow her to experience God in the way that I have. First of all, I noticed right away that people here are not focused on how you dress. They genuinely want you to join their family as long as your there, and to just "come as you are". I was greeted by so many friendly people, many of which were wearing 49ers jerseys because it was playoffs day. Evidently, the Pastor is a football fan because he was wearing one too! Nope! No suit and tie here. When I dropped off my daughter at the preschool classroom, it was more than obvious that she had enjoyed her time there. In fact, she didn't want to leave. One of the volunteers offered that I stay a few minutes to make sure she was settled in. I pondered it until she took off running with another kid her she laughing and playing. She was just fine. The process of signing her in and out and the badge number provided to me were every simple steps. I think some other aids has kids in the classroom as well. I felt confident and reassured leaving her in the preschool room. That's a huge step for a mom that isn't sure about such a new place herself. The music was positively phenomenal. We sang modern day songs you'd find on KLOVE, all to the beat of a band with extremely talented singers, guitarists, bassists, keyboard player, etc along with lighting and other "bells and whistles". It was truly an experience! Love it! The pastor didn't preach a sermon, rather a very powerful message. One that we cup if all understand. He spoke with such conviction and passion that we were on our feet clapping. His core message was simple: "you cannot see the harvest until you see the harvest". In other words: trusting in God through the hard times is recognizing the blessings He promises after the storm passes. As he spoke, he wandered up and down the isles, providing scripture and analogies, jokes that had us laughing, all with photos & scriptures posted on the monitors so we could follow along. The message felt quite personal, as should any true pastor that speaks the Word of God. I left truly impressed. Since that day, I've attended several more times. It was music to my ears that's boyfriend wanted to come, and his two girls also wanted to attend. Typically, Sunday school comes with a lesson, then perhaps a snack and play afterward. Keep in mind this is for ages 7-9 yrs. The day they attended was Super Bowl Sunday. All classes were combined and the kids competed in games and won prizes. They had a blast. I just hope they continue to, and that they continue to want to go. Before meeting me, they hadn't ever gone to church. My boyfriend (their dad) hadn't been in a lot longer. I was so happy to have someone beside me in church. Everyone went home happy, with one toddler crying because we were leaving, and two little girls asking if they could go next week. lol. I enjoyed the service just as much as they enjoyed their time. I'm incredibly blessed to find such a rare diamond in the city of Manteca. Although it's hard to start over, I can't help but feel right at home here.

Fast forward few years and alhamdullilah masjid Al Emaan was built. It's so beautiful mashallah. And I am so proud for how far our community come . There is now a large community with lots of events. Stockton masjid have come a long way . I had the pleasure of attending one Ramadan and it was so good for the soul , I loved coming here . I also taught Sunday school for a while but sadly had to move. Shout out to Ustada Najat , she is such a wonderful teacher and a big pillar of the community
