The stylists here are awesome and super helpful. It's in a convenient location downtown and the salon itself is beautiful, welcoming and comfortable. I had a New York stylist ruin my hair with getting highlights for the first time -- when I got back to Gainesville I was desperate for a fix and needed to chop a bunch off. One of the stylists at Ciao Bella gladly gave me a fresh cut and plenty of helpful advice for how to take care of my hair. They have great natural products available in the store as well as olaplex treatments for only $25 which I HIGHLY recommend! "It's like insurance for your hair" is what I've been told. I've been to Ciao Bella Salon twice. My first experience was great. I called last minute and got an appointment the next day with a stylist who did an AMAZING job. Now, almost a year later I requested the same girl but she was booked out for quite some time. I was going in to get my roots touched up. Im a natural dirty blonde and like my hair lighter, typically I get highlights or whatever the stylist does so my hair all matches. I was a little skeptical because I have VERY curly crazy hair and people have a tendency to mess it up so i don't really like seeing new stylists, I let the girl know that and she recommended another stylist. I made the appointment and went it. And I am SO disappointed with my hair. She did highlights I think? But my hair looks the EXACT same as it did when I came in. My roots look terrible and you can still clearly see how much they are grown out. Not to mention she cut off about 4-5 inches of hair when she showed me maybe ONE inch she would be cutting off? I can only assume that she must've mistakenly cut off too much and then had to even my hair out (because like I said very curly and crazy) and just didn't tell me. I am beyond disappointed and wasted so much time and money coming here, I will sadly not be coming back to this salon. read more

I went in for my first visit to Ciao Bella and with Darcy. The salon is located downtown and there is plenty of parking in the Sun Center parking lot. I was greeted as I walked in and handed a new client form so they could get to know me better. The salon was very clean, which I really appreciate! Everyone was very friendly, dressed nice (have you ever walked into a salon where it looks like people are still in their pjs, didn't put makeup on, and didn't even brush their own hair?). I had spoken to Darcy previously and told her I was unhappy with a haircut I had gotten somewhere else. I sat in Darcy's chair and we went over what I'd like to change but also where I wanted to go with my hair in the future. She was upfront with me that I'd have to go a little shorter to make things blend better and have a more cohesive style. Took me back to the shampoo bowl and gave me an awesome scalp massage and then started cutting away! We chatted through the haircut and blow dry but she also made sure to still let me know what she was doing throughout the cut and blow dry, what products she was using for styling to achieve the look I wanted, and how the style would work multiple ways depending on how I wore it each day. When she was done I was so happy!!! My hair looks 100 times better!!!! The cut was fixed perfectly!!!! I went ahead and pre-booked my next appt when they told me there was a rewards program and I could earn points from booking ahead, purchasing products and giving referrals....and points get you free stuff!!! They were also running a sale on products! They have a few different lines to choose from and I appreciated very much that they have some products that are free of harsh chemicals. They also use Goldwell color which I am a fan of because it is one of the top color lines around and they also have a low ammonia color line if you are sensitive to color. From the the greeting and information I got from the receptionist to Darcy I was very impressed! And Darcy has mad skills so I will continue to book my cuts and colors with her! Changing your hairdresser can be very nerve racking when you don't know who to go to or what work they do. Darcy made this the easiest transition I have ever experienced! And in a random side note...the Sun Center is very conveniently located if you want to go out after you get your hair done! There is a ton of awesome restaurants within walking distance, 2 coffee shops and 2 record stores! So I encourage you to meet up with some friends after you get your hair done and go show it off at one of the fun places downtown! read more

Best salon in Gainesville hands down! I'm a Miami girl so I'm used to upscale salons and great stylists but I didn't think I'd find it here. I started at Beach Break salon, my cuts were good but never great. I also tried Mode salon but I felt the same, the cuts were just okay. I finally decided to try Ciao Belle with Michele. OMG he's amazing, he just knows what to do with your hair. I came in first time for a cut and some highlights than two more times for touch ups. Each time he made suggestions to tweak my style, and it came out more fabulous each time. I just moved to Chicago and have been to two different hair salons ( I'm telling you, I'm picky!) and each stylists has asked me where I got my highlights done & told me how great they look. Never really write reviews but I felt like Michele really deserves the 5 stars. read more

I visited this salon for the first time over the weekend and had a great experience with Sam. He was super professional, gave me a good cut, and perhaps most importantly, could carry a conversation :) I hate sitting in the chair in awkward silence! I'm fairly hopeless when it comes to my hair, but Sam was kind enough to offer technique and product recommendations. Very glad to have had such a good experience and I'll definitely be back. I was also excited to see this this shop uses the R+Co product line. I fell in love with the products back in California, and wasn't sure if I'd be able to find them again. Horrible customer service. Owner was so rude and unprofessional I am baffled at how he acted when I wanted my hair redone because the first time it washed out a lot in one wash. I didn't wash it right away, I washed it four days later during my vacation and it was basically blonde again with a tint of pink orange. I already had my hair bleached before (from another salon) and then they just applied color on top of it here. I was asking for my hair to be neon peach/orange and they didn't really have the colors I wanted and I didn't know that until after so It obviously wasn't as bright or the color I asked for. I wanted a shadow root and have my roots bleached and have the rest of my hair lightened as well before the color application which I thought I was getting but there was some miscommunication I guess. I was only booked for a single process not a double process when they said a double process was going to be booked. I could have done this myself (just apply color on top and nothing else) and feel like I paid way too much money for a mediocre hair job. I called to reschedule another session and they fixed it for free. It apparently had to be with the same stylist to be free but she didn't even touch my hair the second time and someone else did it. However, when I got there owner said "they tried to contact me 6 times to tell me they can't do the color I want" but I was at work all day whenever they did so I can't answer my phone all the time. He then said they can't rebleach it and don't think its a good idea when they originally told me over the phone that they could. I ended up getting my hair dyed bright pink/fushia and the color is better than before but overall I never want to go back because they just handled the situation in a poor matter. Extremely disappointed and still would love to have a refund or partial refund because I could have got it done for half the price and a better job somewhere else. Just frustrated because my hair still isn't what I want and don't recommend this place at all even for any service, other customers in there seemed to be disliking their services as well. read more

I visited Ciao Bella to get a blowout before a wedding. Unfortunately the latest appointment they had was still 4 1/2 hours before the start of the wedding. Darcy, not only did an amazing job, my hair held throughout the day and the entire wedding. I even took a nap after my appointment. I'm always skeptical about trying out new salons because I'm very particular about my hair and who cuts it. I'm also very unsure about what it is that I want to do with my hair so I like someone with a lot of "vision" and who pretty much has free reign over my hair. I made a same day appointment, which was awesome, for a cut and color with Emily and she did an amazing job! Wow, we loved our first time at Ciao Bella Salon! My sister was visiting me from out of town and wanted to get a haircut as we had nothing to do. After reading through yelp we called Ciao Bella and they fit us in right when we wanted. They were ready for my sister as soon as we arrived and gave her a nice wash and beautiful cut- exactly what she asked for (the layers look great). I could tell the woman working on her was paying attention to detail and took her time. I didn't catch her name but she had dark hair and was extremely nice and welcoming. Only 4 stars for the price- 50 plus tip- which I recognize is still average and pretty fair for a wash, cut, and dry! read more

This is the first salon I've ever been to in Gainesville and I couldn't be happier with the results! She was extremely professional and cut my hair precisely how I wanted. I was nervous as I wanted to go from very long hair to a short bob, but she cut it perfectly. I was very disappointed with my last visit to the Salon. The first visit was fantastic and I wished I remembered the stylist's name, she did exactly what I asked and nothing more. Nor did she try to sell me on another hair due that would be best for her Instagram. However, the second time I visited this salon i scheduled it for a trim but I was with a new stylist, I believe her name was sophie or sophia. Anyway, I told her I just wanted a trim because I loved my long hair and wanted to keep it long. After she kept asking if I was sure thats all I wanted, I gave in after the 5th time she asked and admitted I was little tired of the same ole look so she would just stop asking to do something different to my hair. So she showed me a few pictures on her instagram of long layered hair and it was still extremely long hair with just a few layers to just add some 'character' I'll say. I said you know what that looks great! I'll try it. Next thing I know she's cutting all my hair way shorter than what I liked and she framed my face... which we never talked about. While she was cutting my hair she parted my hair down the middle in order to cut it. I said I don't part it that way, I favor my left side. She ignored it and said it would be fine. Well it wasn't, because she parted my hair down the middle it was short on one side and long on the other. Furthermore, the layers were not blended at all, they were choppy and look like I had super thin hair at the bottom because she didn't leave the other layers long enough to balance it out. It cost me over $60 and I had to pay another $30 for another stylist to fix my hair so I didn't feel embarrassed to wear my hair down in public. I love the salon but unless you need a huge change in hair style don't book the appointment with Sophia or Sophie. She's just going to try talk you into doing something you ended up not wanting to do. read more

I cannot even BEGIN to express how bad this place is! Mu daughter and I both have been clients here, and have had nothing but negative experiences. *The owner and staff are so incredibly rude and unprofessional. Talking and gossiping about other clients while you're sitting in their chairs. ( really makes you wonder how they talk about YOU when you're out of the salon ) While I was waiting for my appointment, the owner/receptionist, proceeded to discuss with one of her new stylist that she wasn't going to pay her more than minimum wage because her work was not very good. RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME. I couldn't believe it. Really made me wonder if I wanted to stay for my appointment. While my daughter was in Emily's chair getting her hair colored, a sweet little older woman had just finished her appointment, and went to tip her stylist, and when the woman left, the stylists all proceeded to laugh and make fun of her. My daughter was shocked and appalled. * Michael yells at the girl that trains there so much, it makes you extremely uncomfortable. * Both Michael, and his staff walk away from clients in their chairs and go get themselves coffee, food, cigarette breaks, etc, leaving you sitting there waiting on them. * When they quote you a price, you can pretty much be guaranteed it won't be the same price you pay when you go to check out. * The " makeup artist" there is so over made up, it literally looks like she just walked off the set of a horror movie. I can't imagine anyone seeing her and wanting their makeup done there. I will NEVER go to this place again. My advice to Michael. 1) Be a little more professional 2) Train your5 staff to be the same. and 3) If you can't do either, sell your place to someone who can. read more

While their service was decent, their attitude is not worth it. I was a loyal customer for 2 years and when I had to move to go to a different school up north (for grad school), they refused to give me my color formula. They said it was against policy. I could understand this policy if someone only went there once, but I've been paying really really good money for two! In my opinion, that was extremely rude and unprofessional. So I don't normally write reviews. But after having a pretty bad experience at this place, I felt it was necessary. I had Georgina as my stylist and she did a good job on my hair other than the fact that I wanted her to straighten it and she pretty much told me no. She's nice... Ish. Just really awkward I guess you could say. Normally they have conversations and stuff like that with you. She doesn't talk... And any time I'd try to start one she kept it real short, kinda like I was a bother. But my main complaint is the other people! Oh my god... These women are the most gossipy rudest women! There's a stylist in there with long black hair she was so freakin rude, her and Emily...Those two are the worst at talking about the clients behind their back or when they leave. Makes you wonder if they're talking about you! I don't know about other people... But when I'm getting my hair done I want a relaxing NICE environment. Not someplace that I gotta worry if they're talking about me or talking badly about other people. Oh and the prices are freakin ridiculous! Almost $200 for a simple root and highlight touch up.
