With COVID-19, the Cincinnati Public Library system is working hard to continue to provide services to the community. At this location some of these services include Zoom programs, grab and go craft kits for kids, and ordering books ahead of time. Small parking lot. There is only one way in, and one way out. Several of the parking spots are now designated for the pick-up of orders only. If you are unable to find a parking space, it may be difficult to circle back around. With time limits now being set for how long people may visit the library branches, (to keep numbers down, while allowing the most people to visit,) parking isn't as hard as it once was.

The reason I first went in was to print some papers and I forget how many copies you can get for free, but you can get a good amount of not just black and white but also color! So helpful for this gal that does not own a printer. The staff has also been super friendly! To get a library card you'll have to first apply online for a temporary card and then make your way in to receive the physical copy. Again, staff is so helpful. The top level is the main (adult) section. I enjoyed the fun feature: "What your Neighbors are Reading". Downstairs there's a little fish pond and children's section. Parking lot is in the back and is again smaller, but fits for the size of the building.

If using that entrance for the handicap accessibility, proceed all the way forward, that is where the elevators will be to take you to the regular library. There is also a night/after hours drop slot back there. The children's section is one of the cutest ones I have seen. There is a whimsical mural that wraps around the area. Various small chairs are peppered about, as are a selection of toys. Computers are available for children to play learning games. At the far end, (if standing at the rear entrance,) is a water feature. The small pond includes Koi fish. I am not fond of the fact that this branch is on multiple floors. We usually visit multiple sections of the library. Sometimes my older children will vist one area while my younger one and I visit another. When they are only an aisle or two away, I am comfortable with this arrangement. Having them be on separate floors I am not comfortable with. On the flip side, I can understand people who are visiting the library for a quiet place to work seeing this arrangement as preferable.

I didn't have high expectations for this branch, but I was actually pretty blown away by this library. In fact, I think it may have been the best branch (Main Library excluded) I've seen. I could tell it was fairly new, and as it turns out a 36-year-old branch was demolished in 1999 and completely rebuilt and then finished in May 2000. I would have guessed that it was just a few years old, rather than eight going on nine, because everything looked so new: carpet, shelves, counters, and even the bathrooms. While every branch in town seems to have a teen area, what I saw for the first time was a "TeenScene" neon sign. How cool is that? The overall design of the library is great, and it even includes "skylights, clerestory windows, and vaulted ceilings." The children's area was very nice too, and there was just an overall friendly environment to the whole library. Another neat thing the Groesbeck Branch offers is a drive-up window. In addition to having a drive through book drop, the library is one of four in Hamilton County to have an actual drive-up window. Wow.

To have an idea of the age of the former Cumminsville Branch Library, now known as the Northside…read moreBranch, all you have to do is look above the doors and see that it says "PVBLIC LIBRARY - CVMMINSVILE BRANCH." Yeah, "u's" that look like "v's." Twenty-six years after the Cumminsville Branch at Hoffner and Spring Grove Avenues (opened in 1879) closed, a new library was opened at Hamilton and Pullan in April 1908, according to its webpage. In 1999, the library temporarily closed and in September of 2000, it reopened as a renovated and remodeled library now known as the Northside Branch. Even with the remodeling and renovation, the inside isn't all that impressive. It is in good shape, but had I not read that it was recently remodeled I would have never really known. It isn't extremely nice, by any means, but it is in good shape and, although relatively small, the Northside Branch does have a lot to offer. There are three square/rectangle-shaped rooms to go along with the main area with the checkout, filled with a lot of books, many DVDs including a "new feature films" section (not entirely new, but most within the last year or two), and there is a large kids section. Like most of the Cincinnati Public Library branches, it does have a book drop, and it has a meeting room too that can seat 30 people. Maybe the most telling thing about the Northside Branch, though, is that they have a cop on duty at all times. There must have been some past incidents because we've all seen police offers at libraries before, but not full-time like this. Overall, I wasn't too impressed with the Northside Branch Library, although they did have a lot in the somewhat small (definitely bigger than Clifton Branch, though) library. Although it isn't in the best part of town and isn't the biggest or nicest, it is a branch of the Cincinnati Public Library, so of course it is relatively good (just not great).

There are around 25-30 PCs available as well as printers and copiers for use at this facility. As with all the Cincinnati library branches, if you need to use a PC get there before the kids get out of school or else you'll be competing with them for 1hr reservations for a PC. The library is only able to fax to Hamilton County Jobs and Family Services. To send a fax anywhere else you'll have to find another option. The downside of this library branch is its location. There's no signage telling you where it is! It's located in the Cincinnati-Hamilton County Community Action Center, which is a very large building. When you turn off of Langdon Farm Rd turn left immediately and follow the little drive around the parking lots and up the small hill. At the top is a parking lot and the entrance to the library, as well as a small sign identifying this as the Bond Hill Branch. Signage could definitely be improved to keep you from wandering around looking for the facility the first time you visit. But beyond that, this is a great branch to visit with lots of programs for children and teens.
