Went last night and felt that the entire building was dirty. Everything seemed to have a grimmey film, the counters, the napkins holders, table tops, chairs, door knobs, everything. I did not see any staff wipe down the tables or chairs in the restaurant area. Because the roads were bad we chose to eat at the theatre and got a incredible case of diarrhoea. The concession seemed to be understaffed, and I really did not watch the staff for food safety handling protocols or cleanliness. I wish I had now. The reclining seats were awesome, but the numbers on the seats were hard to see and it was not clear if the number for the seat was on the right or the left arm rest. Paring lot was adequate. Over all, it is not worth the drive to this theatre. Or the risk of being sick the next day. Very disappointing. read more

Wow... tried to book a seat on line today for No Time to Die at Sunridge Cineplex but could not book the seat. Called at 3 pm ish on Nov 4, 2021. No one answering the phone. Checked the price for the movie --- is was over $19.00 FOR ONE PERSON??? WTF? I wanted to go to this cinema since the area seems like a really nice shopping district. But the admission price is out of whack! By chance, I checked prices for the same movie but at a Landmark cinema at Market Mall near me -- this price was $10.79 -- that is half price on a Thursday with the senior discount!! Well I don't recommend Cineplex Sunridge. It is off my list. No wonder no one is answering the phone. They are afraid they will get an earful. read more

First time here and had not been to a movie in awhile. If I do go, I aim for a matinee where there are less people, less distractions. It was clean, comfortable enough seating and not too busy (Thurs at 430pm) I just wish people would keep their cell phones off during movie time! What do you HAVE to check so badly on your brightly lit screens? Good location and decent selection of movies playing at various times. Lots of parking. Friendly staff. They have a rule that in the first 1/2 hour you do not like the movie, you can come out and get a refund! Good to know! Skipped the concession - I know that is the movie money maker but it is just too much $$$ for what you get. read more

I generally have a very enjoyable experience at this location. The seats are modern (relaxing, FTW!) and the concession is great. The only reason it falls short of 5-stars is because some of the D-Box seats are very squeaky, so make sure that, if you're going to a show, don't choose a seat to close to them, as it may distract from your enjoyment of the movie. read more

This theatre is being renovated to include electronic reclining seats. After first experiencing these at the Country Hills Landmark, I really can't go back to "regular" seats. So, I was happy to see this addition. In addition to better seating, the lobby's also been renovated to include a Poptopia kiosk with a build-your-own froyo service. read more

This was the nearest movie theatre to our hotel so during our vacation on a night where we just wanted to stay in, this is where we went. It was awful. Their customer service was awful, the popcorn was dry, flavorless and STALE. We purchased a tub of popcorn, after we tasted it, I walked back to the concession stand and requested to switch it out for something else. The employee explained that she couldn't assist but her manager would be more than happy to. Her manager was not happy to assist at all. She was so rude and when I explained why I did not like the popcorn she said "next time I suggest you don't order popcorn", WHAT!?!?!!??? I explained that there wouldn't be a next time since I live in the US and we were on vacation. I was very disappointed but I was able to switch it out for pre-bagged popcorn. read more

Well, what can I say ...Every tuesday = $11.95 for a movie and large popcorn and pop in a "real" theater watching and newly released movie (Zombieland which was awesome by the way!!). Less busy, we prefer this one out of most of the Cineplex's in the city even if it is a bit of a drive. I have never seen so many sweat pants tucked into Uggs, PJ pants or those tear-away track pants from 1998 in one space as I have here. People are definitely comfortable here, so comfortable they don't even bother getting dressed. The theatre seems clean and well maintained. The front line fills up but moves quite fast. I've never had a problem with the ticket kiosks either. The lines for the concession are another story. They move in slow-motion. I imagine those teens have trouble seeing what they are doing what with all that emo hair in their face. The popcorn is delicious. Layered butter with salt and vinegar "shakers'. This theater is a little far from my place, therefore I don't come here very often. It has all the amenities from the Cineplex chain: concession, ticketing kiosks, etc. Theater rooms are big and have big screens, so this is a good place when you want to watch a blockbuster movie. NEED TO KNOW for newbies and folks like me who go so rarely to see a movie, we are quite clueless about how theatres work: I haven't been to a theatre in almost 4 years. My first time back was for my daughter's 7th birthday party. They didn't have any birthday packages because of the holiday season so I had to go it the old fashioned way. Bought vouchers from Costco, reserved 16 seats online, arrived early to greet my guests, got drinks and popcorn for all of them before helping them to their seats, and sitting down myself to enjoy the movie. Here are the things I really wished I had known before I arrived: 1) Refunds can only be given within the first 30 minutes of a movie's scheduled start time. i.e.) One of my guests bought 4 seats for herself and her extra guests who were not invited by name. I had paid and reserved seats for them too. As the movie was about to start and we were herding 14 kids and some late arrivals at the time, we thought we could wait until after the movie to ask for a refund for our mutual mistake. We were very wrong. Refunds are locked out by the computer system 30 minutes after the movie starts. It didn't matter to the staff, or online customer service that they had essentially charged us twice for 4 people. I felt suckered. I didn't even get an apology. Just "Nothing we can do". No manager was called for further assistance, not even some sort of coupon/credit was offered. $50 gone because we were ignorant and inexperienced. 2) If you reserved seats online, it's just like taking a flight, you're checked in, the seats are yours in the theatre you booked. Just remember to keep the concessions stub to redeem your popcorn/drink if you bought the Costco vouchers. i.e.) Be aware, just like on a plane after it takes flight, if a seat is unoccupied after the movie starts, most movie goers treat it as an open invitation to take it if they like it better. If you show up late, you can still request they relinquish your seat back to you. Or you can just pick an empty seat you like. 3) Theatres have recliner seats now but only in specific theatres. If you notice only 6 rows of seats on the seating plan, they have recliner seats. You'll find the regular, boring chairs in theatres with 12 rows or so. Finally, theatre review: The theatre I was in was clean. The recliners were nice. The staff weren't particularly well trained which did not help my overall experience but at least, I can call this a learning experience. We watched Frozen 2 which was very good. I suggest you bring some napkins/tissue to watch it as I spent half the movie in tears and I'm not normally emotional. Real eye-candy though the musical scores weren't nearly as catchy as the first movie. I picked Cineplex because it had more seating availability for my massive kids party. I regret they didn't have a party package at the time which might have saved me some frustration and grief. I had no parking issues but I also arrived early. Will I come again? Maybe. Unfortunately, Landmark treated me better in the past so they are still my first choice. To Theatre management: They're called Vouchers. Printed on paper, they are relatively inexpensive to make and hand out to customers with legitimate complaints. I booked 16 seats complete with concessions for my kid's birthday party. If you had simply handed me 4 admission vouchers as incentive to return to your theatre, I would be more inclined to book other kids parties there. Customers rarely remember what you say to them, but they always remember how you make them feel. Cheated and angry. read more

I hate to love this theatre and love to hate it so, I'm here all the time, obviously. Sunridge Spectrum was getting a bit outdated but I'm happy to report that it is under renovations. So the good news is the old, semi-smelly, kinda-dingy space is getting a facelift but the bad news is that Sunridge Spectrum is under construction. It's still open for your movie-going pleasure but the restaurant part is under construction. For food options, there is the main popcorn counter, a gourmet popcorn place (the name has slipped my mind), outtakes with Pizza 73, burgers, poutine and wraps... etc. There is still a bunch of options for food, but there is no place to sit and eat it. I was super early for my movie so I think most people just eat in the auditorium, but I snuck into the other of the theatre and ate on a couple of tables and chairs that were set up to the side. I like Sunridge Spectrum because it has an arcade and is very close to other restaurants. It is also one of the only theatres that plays ethnic movies and black movies from the States (like Tyler Perry, Kevin Hart's Get Hard..etc.) and I can't wait for the renos to be complete, from the looks of it it's going to be a really cool cinema experience. read more

This is by far MY favourite theater in the city. Its not the best theater in the city, but it does what I want best. Its not as busy as the Chinook theater and as I live in the north end of the city, it is way closer than the Chinook theater. It always has the most popular movies playing there and usually have a good selection of times to choose from. I love the mini food venue in the theater. There chicken strips are so good. Very meaty and well worth the price. The best thing that Cineplex has going for them, is the Scene card. I will always choose a Cineplex theater over the Empire theaters just because of the discount at concession and collect points when purchasing tickets and food. read more

I work near here, and wanted to see Tangled 3D with a friend from work. I wasnt sure whether this was a good theatre or not, so I checked out YELP, and based on the good reviews I thought I would go here. I was very pleasantly suprised. First of all, in comparison to going to Chinook this was like night and day. Calm, relatively quiet without all the madness. There are quite a few good things that I have never seen at other theatres. First of all, they have FREE popcorn topping, yes FREE! There is a little area where they have napkins etc and they have a machine that dispenses the Butter topping. Just press the button and voila! Its Becel Margarine, but still pretty tasty and nice that you can put your own on. Also they offer Free refills on Large drinks. I drink a whole large myself, but if you were sharing with someone the free refill thing would turn out to be pretty good value. Tons of parking out front. There is also a Pizza 73 inside, as well as hamburgers, nachos, hot dogs etc... Nice staff, Clean shiny theatre! I will be going back in a few weeks to see Tron, and looking forward to it. Went to Sunday movies and think the rest of Calgary joined us. They have 5 self serve machines and all but 1 was broken! The ticket line was also crazy. Please please get these machines fixes asap! Think my love of movies is kept in tact by never having to stand in horrendous queues to get tickets - if we weren't meeting friend would just have gone home. Took 40 minutes to get tickets. At least after that the concession line went super quick and had lovely fast efficient service with a smile. Got hotdogs items which meant they gave us a ticket to collect at the food counter. And that is where efficiency came to a grinding halt. There were 3 people working the food counter. It took 3 of them a good long discussion to work out how to put the pizza in the oven. These 18yr old were also moving slower than 80yr olds with walkers. There is a massive line of people waiting and lets be honest its all ready cooked and needs to be assembled apart from the stuff that gets thrown in the deep fryer. Painful to watch these kids hardly work. Took another 15min to get a hotdog. Seats were comfortable and not too worn like in a couple of their cinemas. Unfortunately the sound was WAY loud. Apparently it is an issue with some of the foreign films just coming over that way but surprised as this is our first experience of that and surely they can just turn the volume down some? I have zero audio experience but doesn't this equipment come with volume control? All in all if the wait time hadn't been so long it would have been 3 stars but that was just too much. Have never had issues like this here before and really hope they solve the issues stat! read more

After reading Neil M.'s review of Sunridge Spectrum, I thought maybe I should give it a try. And not only did I give it a try, I went out on a limb and decided to see the movie I have been anticipating more than any other: Michael Jackson's 'This Is It'. I'm a HUGE fan, so the theatre had the potential to make it or break it for me. Luckily for me, it wasn't the latter. Sunridge Spectrum is a great theatre. I like that it's isolated from the mall and I like that it's its own island. After having gone in and had a seat, i realized the chairs were FANTASTIC! SO comfortable! The theatre was busy, but not packed, which I also thoroughly enjoyed. I ordered popcorn and it was just as good as any other movie popcorn, so my taste buds were pleased as well. Overall, my experience at this particular theatre was great! Thank you Neil M.!!! I was actually quite surprised at how much I enjoyed this location! Now I have another theatre in the city that I can escape to when I need 'Me' time and I can always be sure that while yes, it will be busy, it wont ever be so packed that I wont be able to secure a seat. I like this cinema! I have been here countless times and have always had a fun time watching movies! Except there was one instance where I got freaked out because a guy and a girl got into it behind me during the movie.. and as we all turned around to look there was a guy and a larger woman yelling and verbally abusing each other. NOT COOL people! Just because someone kicks your seat by accident doesn't mean you have to make a scene about it. geesh. What I like about this theatre is that they'll screen Bollywood films, the odd independant film, and some local films as well. I've even seen a Filipino film screened here. There are other smaller art house theatres in the city that do this sort of thing and more often, but sometimes it's nice to see these sorts of films on a giant screen with stadium-style seating. It's nice that there's still a large theatre in the NE as there used to be so many more options growing up before they started to merge/close down. read more

LOVE THIS THEATRE! So different from the theatre back home in New Brunswick. So cool point to mention: The seats recline!! Bad parts: Hard to find parking out front. Super long lines for tickets (consession stand is pretty fun) Assigned seating If you buy your ticket online your golden you just scan your phone and your good to go. Expect in our case where the phone xode wouldnt work and had to wait in line anyway. . . and I hate assigned seating! After we sat down and the movie started, noticed there were more emepty seats in a better loctation - which kinda sucked. Virgin mobile members get buy one get one but can only be used once a week and not on a fri or sat! Pretty cool and can be used for any loctation. But a cool theatre visually. This is a movie theatre what can I say the movies play I've never had any issues with the staff. Floors are dirty with pop corn but the theatres are never to dirty for me to enjoy a film, the concessions are usually pretty efficient. Friday's and Saturday evening are the worst for busy but I've never had issues getting in. Best advise buy tickets in advance this goes for all Cineplex, once it's done you literally walk in print tickets and that's it it's by far the best way in. read more

For Valentine's Day my husband and I had gone to watch an Indian movie love aaj kal. February 16th 2020 this was a worst nightmare for us as we had seats F13 and F14. While the movie was going on we heard some noise behind our seats, like someone nibbling on food/wrappers. We quickly looked at each other asked is that a mice and we looked with a phone torch light and it was a mice. We went outside and asked for a manager (Kris) all he had to say that we know that we have a mice issue and we are trying our best to get them out of here. He didn't realize that how inconvenient this was for us and unhygienic. No apology no action was taken as we told him to get the seats cleaned behind us, no refund. We will never come back and we ask each one of you to be very careful especially with your families and kids. This is absolutely disgusting and a huge dissatisfaction, disappointment from the manager (Kris) and the entire team of sundridge spectrum cineplex. I truly believe the place needs to be shut down and cleaned properly this is not a safe and healthy environment. read more

We went to theatre 4 and walked to the top row. Seats in the theatre are blue, the arm rests were black. We walked down a few rows and sat at what I thought would be cleaner seats. Part way through the show I noticed my arms sticking to each of the arm rests. In the washroom one of the stalls does not have a latch. This place needs some basic basic TLC. I won't be back until it's better. read more

This theater easily grabs second place for best theater in the city in my books (and trust me, I go to A LOT of movies, so I know) coming in shortly behind Chinook (which I've also reviewed, check out my page if you'd like to compare!) Basically, when it comes right down to it I kind of consider this theater to be the "little brother/sister" of the larger, more technologically advanced Chinook... but what it loses in the latest tech, it makes up for in comfort and low-key vibes... most of the time. There are times (opening night for The Dark Knight sticks out my head) where I've seen lineups out the door and around the corner, but I'd be willing to bet there were still more people at Chinook. On any given night, Sunridge is only about 60-70% as busy as Chinook, sometimes less, which makes lineups and finding a seat a lot easier. Also, I haven't been to the two close enough together to say for sure, but I could swear the seats here were a bit larger and more comfortable (aside, of course, from Chinook's new ULTRA-AVX theater which beats any other I've been to in Calgary by quite a margin). It also boasts the only theater I'm aware of in the city where one can get things like chicken strips, poutine, and frozen yogurt, which drastically boosts the appeal of eating right at the theater. That being said, I was disappointed to hear that the new ULTRA-AVX system wouldn't be coming here. It was already a shame that this theater didn't get an IMAX screen, so now it's becoming painfully clear that this venue is a distant second priority. My other complaint is with accessibility. For those who are driving, it's really no big deal, but for peopel like myself who take transit, there's really no direct line to the theater. Your best bet becomes getting off the train at Rundle station and walking from there which means either going through or around Sunridge Mall (and if you go through, be advised, the parking lot on the other side has a wall around it, so you can't cut straight through anyway, and will have to go out to where the intersection around the mall goes anyway), then across a pretty busy street, up a hill, and through another major lot. This is somewhat of a pain, especially when you're cutting it close for a showtime, or on your way out after the mall has closed (forcing you to go around). So, if you live in the Northeast, drive, and prefer to play it a little more low-key, Sunridge is the way to go... but it would be nice for those of us without these luxuries if there were some kind of major busline that went there. Once you get inside, this is one of the best movie-going experiences in the city. It's no Chinook, but if you can get there without all the pain put on those of us who rely on a bus pass, you really can't go wrong. read more

The Cineplex here is decent. Majority of the times the employees don't really care and a lot shows no interest in working, I'm guessing they're only working to watch movies for free. In this location it's really easy to hop theatres, not that I've done it. read more

Wouldn't recommend. The food servers don't practice proper hygienic serving processes. Plus the over all service was crappy. We went to go see Hateful Eight. The movie was enjoyable and the theater was nice. But the service was awful. The concession staff was slow as sin. We were in line for 15+ mins. Then when we order food they sent us to outtakes (a different stand) where we waited for over 15 min for 2 hotdogs. While we where waiting tho we saw both of the line cooks at Outtakes do some gross things. One food handler kept picking at his acne on his checks between handling food and the other guy was touching money then prepping food without gloves or a wash. The acne picker was too much for us. At this point we have waited 30 mins for 2 hotdogs and our movie had started. We had enough and just asked for a refund at the original concession stand, which also took forever for the staff to figure out. Overall if you don't want food and are just going for a movie this place works great. But if you're looking for movie munchies avoid this poorly run concessions unless you like chowing down on acne juice! read more

Sunridge has the down-home feel of a second-run theater; design-wise and size-wise, it is much closer to Canyon Meadows in the south. It is not as massive, or packed, or as rat-race-like as Chinook, but it is a great place to watch a movie. The only one I've seen here was The Dark Knight in 2008 (my third viewing), and I do remember the seating being superior to Chinook. The auditorium felt almost twice the size, with much more height difference in the rows, and of course the chairs were very comfortable. How this theater is not bigger and bolder escapes me. read more

The thing I like the most about this Cineplex Odeon is that there is lots of parking, less traffic nightmares than if you go to places like Chinook. There are also lots of places to grab a quick bite: some places nearby (within 5 minute drive): Banana Leaf, Fat Kee Noodle House, Inti Peruvian, Clay Oven, Desi Grill just to name a few and Sunridge Mall and shops are closeby for some quick shopping. read more

I really enjoy going to this movie theatre as it is not as crowded as the one in Chinook Mall. I tend to go here at-least every two weeks and have never had an issue as of yet. It's not as flashy and as big as Chinook but if you are looking for a nice, less crowded place to watch a movie, The Sunridge Cineplex is the place. read more

I've been going to this movie theater for years. Unfortunately, I've also watched the prices go up, and the consession quality and portions go down. I went to an early showing last nght (7pm) and decided to have dinner at the theatre. I understand that a movie theatre makes the majority of their money on concession, but this was unacceptable! I paid just short of $20 for a chicken tender combo and added a hot dog. The food was an insult to paying customers. On several other occasions the food ordered from outtakes (hot food kiosk) has been way below even conveinience store standards. You'd think on a Saturday at 7pm they would make fresh food to sell to the "busy time" customers. Hot dogs are usually so old that the wieners are wrinkled and dry, and the buns are either soggy or dried out. The chicken tenders here used to be fantastic! You used to get 5 full chicken tenders that were plump and juicy. Now you get only 4 pieces of small, dried out, overcooked breading. The fries are usually soggy and under seasoned. Recently they've also scaled down their drink sizes in combos, so after eating the over cooked, dry food you have to go back to get another drink to re hydrate! Other than the food standards, the theatre itself is clean and well kept. I watch a lot of movies in movie theatres (5-10/month), but Sunridge Spectrum has been, and will be getting less and less of my business from here on out. If I'm going to be overcharged for something like a hot dog, at least make it enjoyable to eat. read more

I've come here since I was a little kid, never had any major issues and I'm not looking for any sort of compensation I've seen my movie, but few weekends ago when I went to see infinity wars with my friends and althought I loved the movie I was very disappointed with cineplex and the management. I've waited a long time to see the movie so when tickets were released I bought tickets within the first five minutes, I had scene points saved and used those but no where on the ticket purchase did the seats say dbox, so to my surprise when I got there day of and printed my tickets me and 10 friends my movie time and theater where some how changed to dbox, on top of that it was changed to the next day in the afternoon. When I asked a manager about it they brought out my original tickets except one of my tickets had been sold to someone else. Now the movie would have been starting soon and I didn't make a fuse I took my tickets and watched the movie with my friends, the managers didn't offer to fix the issue and didn't even seem to mind that they sold a ticket to someone else. I'm very disappointed with sunridge cineplex and don't think I will be going back to that theater anytime for movie, watch your tickets when buying them early folks. read more

Not bad. On this particular day, the lineup took forever as there was only one cashier. Another came, but took her sweet time signing on or whatever they do. Popcorn was good... but the topping machine was broken. The guy said it was acting up all week, but really wasn't too interested in solving the problem. When I went to the counter to ask for some real butter instead, I was told that the other machine worked, problem was, it was on the other side of the theater! Oh well, the walk did me good, I guess. The place is relatively clean and I've been going here about 2 or 3 times a month. So far, I haven't experienced anything negative about going into the movies themselves. It's the concession stands that make this theater a PITA to deal with. In short, they nickel and dime you, and use dishonest tactics to try and get you to spend more money on their food. And some of these counter people can't seem to take no for an answer. Case in point, today I ordered a Dog & Nachos. What does the front counter person ask? He asks if I want to turn it into a combo. Ok, I get that. I politely decline, but then he asks me again because a combo comes with a drink and I may have not known that. I politely decline again. He then punches in a Nacho Grande and a Hot Dog separately, making the total come to over $10 when I just wanted the $5.99 Dog & Nachos. After trying to explain it to him several times and pointing to the menu item that said "Dog & Nachos: $5.99, he continues to insist that they were two separate items I was ordering, I finally had to ask him, for THIS menu item (pointing and now insisting that he look with both eyes), what do I get??? Granted, a manager did come and talk to me and apologize, but said that they do train their employees to upsell. I can understand that, but going so far as to try and rip people off by changing orders isn't acceptable. I'm going to try avoiding going to this theater from now on as I've had similar experiences to the above around half the time I go. Congrats Sunridge Cineplex - you've lost a customer who goes to a new movie about once every 2 weeks and usually gets at least a popcorn and soda. Over priced food is to be expected however security is a lax don't k ow why they pay to have them there. Speaking with management is pointless. What really bothers me about this theater compared to others is the air conditioning! It is always on way to high that I wear layers in the summer time when I know I'm going there! read more

A pretty nice theater, is always clean and gets frequent minor renovations to keep it feeling up to date, 1 theater has been upgraded to UltraAVX. its a nice central location in the city that is pretty easy to get to. it is a pretty large theater with 15 screens, so it doesn't get to packed for seating and it has a good variety of showings.This is the theater I most often go to even though it is a little further then some, the quality makes up for the extra distance. read more
