Amazing park for kids of all ages. Good music stations that actually work, great for kids who like climbing, and even a little area with diggers for digging in the rocks (like mini excavators). Also has lots of shade from large oak trees!

This is a nice park located in Circle C off slaughter. This park is utilized a lot by families. There are several soccer fields that are usually packed on the weekend. There is also a playground area. There is a main gravel trail that is about a mile long and once you hit the end turn around. It's an easy place to jog, run, and even ride your bike. If you ride your bike there are more options of trails on the other side of Escarpment. Also, discgolf courses are located throughout the park as well.

This is the only section without trees. Lots of heavily shaded areas too!

This is a great park for avid walkers or joggers. The "main" trail is about a mile and a half around but it has many offshoots to make your hike much longer if desired. I like to do several laps around the main trail, and circle back to my car in the gravel parking lot for a water break. Also handy, there are (clean!) bathrooms right off the main trail near the soccer fields. Comes in handy on long walks or jogs. my only complaint or CON about this park is that after heavy rains a section of it becomes quite flooded and you must veer around through a field to continue. I always worry about snakes in that field! the same area of the trail always is flooded like a huge pond so I don't know why they can't create a little bridge or giant stepping Stones across it.

Circle C metro park caters to specific groups, and for them, I can see why it would be a 5 star rating. However, as a mother to an 8, almost 9 year old who just came here to utilize the tables for a picnic and the playground it's 3.5 to 4 stars. The park itself is really well maintained, with ample parking. The grass looks soft, and level on the soccer fields and there are a couple of sand volleyball pits nearby. The tables are a plastic resin, which is nice cause most use wood. The plastic is warm, but not too hot to sit on in shorts. Also, they aren't caked with food particles like one would expect. All good things! Why does this place get a less than stellar rating from me? Cause the playground to me is lacking. They have rock gravel on the bottom, which means they get thrown, or stuck in shoes. The shade is very nice, but the equipment is geared towards 6 and younger. To me, it's outdated compared to others I've seen in the area, and since this is what we came for.. Less than 5 stars. It needs something more.. A small rock climb area, or monkey bars.. It's really just slides and swings. So if you have a younger kid.. This is amazing.. But for those of us who have older, they could easily get bored within 30 mins.

Great park for older children. Like 8 to 12 year olds. My 3 and 5 year old were disappointed with the lack of slide and swings.

The terrain is rocky on top so watch your step and there are a fair amount of people up here enjoying the view as well. I am sure sunrises and sunsets are beautiful and very impressive. We walked for a ways and got a few different vantage points of the views so if you are able to do that I definitely recommend doing so. It's a great place and indeed a place to go when visiting. You see folks coming down steps on the opposite side and your sense of what you might see at the top grows and grows. Alas, you reach the top. Was the climb worth it? Absolutely! When you reach the top, OMG the views are so spectacular! You cannot imagine how beautiful the views are until you actually see them. You see panoramic views of Lake Austin, multi-million residences on the lake and scenic view of Austin. One word...spectacular! We have been at Mt. Bonnell at sunrise and sunset and both views have something special to offer. Sunrise has peacefulness and light dances on Lake Austin. Sunset turns the overlook into connectiveness, where folks you met a few minutes ago or maybe not have met experience this quiet together as the sun retreats. While this location is quite popular, you still have vestiges of human life - graffiti on signage. Mount Bonnell has welcomed visitors since the 1800s and remains one of the city's oldest and most beloved natural landmarks. Austinites beam with pride regarding Mt. Bonnell

The trail is known for its steep elevation changes, lush greenery, and tranquil water features. This trail is a favorite among outdoor enthusiasts and fitness evangelists. The trail winds through dense vegetation with a mix of wooden steps, rocky pathways, and shaded stretches. One of the biggest attractions is the seemingly endless staircase sections. Looking up from the bottom, those steps appear to climb straight into the heavens. I was mentally preparing myself for the challenge when I spotted a sign that changed everything: "Beware of Snakes. Stay on the designated trail." Excuse me...what?! Will a snake know whether or not I'm on the designated trail? I'm thinking no. Those slithering little noodles of doom that can inject venom and potentially ruin your entire day or your life? At that moment, my inner adventurer immediately became my inner safety officer. Mission status: Abort. Abort. Abort. Instead, we claimed chairs overlooking the pond and enjoyed the peaceful surroundings from a much safer distance. It was incredibly relaxing...except for the part where I spent a good portion of the time imagining snakes conducting secret meetings somewhere in the bushes. All humor aside, River Place Nature Trail is absolutely beautiful. The scenery is stunning, the atmosphere is serene, and for those brave souls who aren't distracted by reptilian concerns, it's an excellent hiking destination. As for me, I'll admire it from the comfort of a chair with a clear view of the ground. There is a fee to walk the trials. If you do not pay the fee, please feel free to donate to the trail fund. I see people being kids so it is not very difficult. Scenery: currently Texas is under a drought so all the creek is bone dry as u can see in my pictures. There many different of plants u can see along the path. Flowers and berries too. $10 during peak hours which I assume is weekend. And for parking, you can just park on the street

We went for a hike there right after a big storm and the grounds were so green and vibrant. We mostly stuck to the Onion Creek Trail as it is paved; however, the storm brought in mud to a few places on the trail, so be prepared to maneuver or wear proper footwear if you go during rainy season. Many families line up to take pictures in front of the upper falls (outside the Smith visitor center), so go early if you'd like a picture free of other guests. We then went to the lower falls area where there is an expanse of limestone (I believe) to get to the falls. There's a very small beach and swimming hole area that many families were enjoying. It's important to note that dogs can't enter any of the water at this park. The park also had multiple designated fishing areas as well. We drove around the campgrounds and they have well-maintained water + electric sites at every site. We would highly recommend a visit if you're in the Austin area.

For those seeking a bit more of a challenge, crossing the river takes more thought to avoid getting your feet wet. I've usually found there are 2-3 paths at the river crossing, being careful not to slip on any rocks. The homestead beyond the crossing can be observed and appreciated, but it's off-limits to help preserve what's left. The backcountry trails total about 6 miles and it's usually just the right length for me to get a solid hike in. There is very little elevation change, though there can be a lot of mosquitos during the warmer months. I didn't find any benches to rest at and there is no water source to refill water bottles. Given that McKinney Falls is within Austin's city limits makes this state park a gem. There is also a large day-use area near the campgrounds with about 100 picnic tables and charcoal grills the last time I counted a few years ago. Parking is plenty and the rangers are friendly. Definitely either get there early or make online reservations to reserve a time slot to enter as the park can fill up fast over weekends or holidays. Their gift shop also has a variety of items for sale, and you can get a park passport stamp there too!
