Coming from NYC I'm used to gigantic wide screen cinema that sits a thousand people for new movie…read morereleases. That's not the Abaton. Since I moved to Zurich, I've watched two movies at this cinema. The first one was on a very small screen in a theater that sits about 40 people. The second one was on a even smaller screen with even less people...somewhat like how private independent film screenings are in NYC. The Abaton in Kreis 5 is within walking distance of our home. Funny things about cinema in Zurich that are different than what I'm used to. 1) assigned seating you select the seats by the box office on a little screen just below the cashier, and 2) intermission during the film that allows you to come out for a air/smoke/drink/bathroom/snack. It's nice not to have to make a restroom run out of the theater during "down times" of the movie hoping you're not missing anything important and then asking people what you missed when you run back. Good system. Can't wait til my sister in law comes over to babysit so we can go see another movie here :)

Most American movies are played in English with German/French subtitle. Seats are OK but again, nothing special. For 3D, you need to buy a 3D glasses for 3 CHF but you can keep it and reuse it next time (to save 3 CHF). ps: popcorn is cold (this is common in CH). ice creams are available too

The restaurant looked appealing as I strolled through the Kreis 5 neighborhood so i got on the elevator and went to the 35th floor where the Clouds restaurant is located. With panoramic views and a semi-elegant ambiance, Clouds looked like a reasonable choice for the evening. The views are of a modern trendy bohemian neighborhood which was once an industrial complex complete with warehouses. After having a cocktail at the separate bar location, I proceeded to the dining area. Think 16 to 24 CHF for a cocktail. The bar offered a full range of cocktails. The menu is eclectic and according to my smart phone, Catalonian inspired by Chef David Martinez Salvany. The menu also features local and international dishes. Loosely interpreted, I would have to concede that it is an accurate description. They have starters and I choose the beef tartar with caviar on top. For the main course I choose the Angus Beef medium rare. Beef throughout Switzerland seems to command a premium price, at Clouds it cost 65 CHF. For what ever reason it takes a long time to be served according to my time expectations. On the bright side, it allows you to enjoy the view longer. For dessert I was contemplating having the chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream. The presentation was worthy of a 5 Star restaurant and tasted just as satisfying. The food was enjoyable, the service begged for more training and the prices were Swiss prices which more often than not shock Americans. . For a three course dinner for one, think 100-150 CHF. In summary, a 3.5 Star rating was probably more appropriate.

Zurich West is the place to be! It's a upcoming district. The bars, clubs, restaurants are trendy…read moreand a bit hided in all kind buildings. Some buildings are old and from the inside modern. You have also a cinema (from my opion the best) Because they have diffirent movies (english spoked) It's easy to reach by tram or bus. When you're there you have to walk, wich is the best way to explore te district.

The lobby is very nice, and it's free entry just to sit around and enjoy the lobby which already has nice, colorful artwork to admire. My sister actually joined me in here with my niece and my niece enjoyed being breastfed with the beautiful artwork around her haha. The gift shop is also nice but of course pricey. I look forward to coming back to enjoy the full museum!

A few tips and tricks for those visiting: They ask you leave your backpacks and purses downstairs in the provided lockers. The elevator system isn't great, and will always stop at the lobby, no matter what you push, so it's a time consuming process to use it. The restrooms look like they should be pull doors, but they're actually push. It's the oddest thing and the honey and I were both tripped up by it. Overall, we both really enjoyed the museum, much more than the famous Prado, and would highly recommend stopping in if you're visiting Zurich, especially if it happens to be a Wednesday.

It was such a surprise that NONE of the markets sold local whiskies! We looked it up and ended up here. The atmosphere is very cool, the old school bar as the register area is so beautiful. It feels very high class. The service was great and so knowledgeable. The coolest part is they let us try a bunch of the whiskies to decide which one we wanted to take home! Their prices were very fair, especially for some of the rare bottles they had. Highly recommend, we would be regulars if we lived in the area, but we settled for a bottle and a couple pocket shots.
