This is a place where you can buy beads, brightly colored plastic forks and knives and blow-up gorillas. This is a great store to buy things for specialized items for parties. They have a wide selection of themes and colors to choose from, too. They have almost everything you would need for a party. Recently I needed a few things for a quick throw-together party and they had everything I needed at a decent price. Parking is plentiful and you never have to circle the block to find a space. The sales associates always seem to be helpful and in a good mood. I have never had an issues with customer service at Party America. The store seems a little old but that does not seem to be a factor. I do think their prices are high on some things. Often it is difficult to judge because the bigger WhateverMart stores can do volume pricing. Perhaps just the products that I buy at Party America are more expensive. I have been able to get some great deals, though. There are no coupons of which I am aware but that would be a huge help. Good selection, friendly customer service, easy access. Yeah, not a bad store for niche needs.

This is a full blown costume shop, full of wigs, masks, fabrics, props, and even rental costumes. It's become the first place I think of for any type of costume, and you can usually find something solid here. Props to the staff who, on a Saturday before Halloween, handled a jam-packed shop with aplomb. I was impressed with how friendly and helpful everyone here was. Most of the costumes and props here are priced in the expected range, with a couple things jacked up a notch. I grew up having my seamstress mom making everything for me each year, so it's a bit of an adjustment to see everything store bought. It doesn't mean it's not as good, but it would be cool to feature some local crafters or costume maestros here to give it a personalized feel.

In the final appointment we found a piece of lace that was sticking out weirdly (the fault of the dress design) and they tacked it down for me as well. After multiple times of them asking I had assumed they thought we were stealing, to which I was right. One of the employees, and older blonde lady, came up to my friends while I was somewhere else being watched by another employee. She started coming at them with a nasty attitude accusing them of stealing with no proof. She said it was because "We are there all the time" Which we have only been in there once since it opened this season. She made them empty their pockets and told them a manager would be reviewing footage. On the footage there was no proof of us stealing, because we didn't. We felt very attacked and upset with our experience here, which is unfortunate because we love spirit halloween. All employees were cold and staring at us, not enjoyable.

Holy crap! This place is a beautiful nightmare if I've ever seen one…read more Deep into KCK, this is more than simply a costume shop, and I was thoroughly impressed in my tour. I came in to browse random costumes, but was immediately taken aback by the sheer magnitude and variety of offerings. If this place doesn't have what you want, it doesn't exist. Where to start? True to the name, this place has just a ridiculous selection of prop guns. Some are fake, but many are actually real guns that have been deactivated. With all types of firearms from all eras, I felt like I was in some secret backroom belonging to a separatist movement, and I mean that in the best way possible. Oh, and the same goes for swords, spears and anything else you could use to pretend to kill somebody onstage. The costumes they have are pretty dang legit. Period clothing and uniforms in excellent condition. This isn't a costume shop strictly for Halloween drunkenness, this is a place for when you REALLY need to look the part. I was astounded by the quality of costumes. They also have full mascot costumes! Like you'd see at football games! Man oh man, I would love to just play in that room for a while. And no, I'm not a furry. There's also the typical Halloween stuff, fake blood and crappy wigs and cheap decorations. But on top of that, there are just mountains of awesome props. It all seems incredibly disorganized, but the staff seem to know where everything is. I would LOVE to spend hours just digging through this place, as I think it might just be Kansas City's best treasure hunt. Highly worth checking out.
