I really, really wanted to fall in love with Citizen Park. I liked it, but we just didn't hit it off in that way, despite how hard I tried. Upon arrival, things looked good. I mean, the place was pretty packed on a Wednesday at 7:30pm - both inside and outside. We ordered a variety of food in order to sample everything: Macaroni Cheese (served in a cup), fried calamari, three kinds of tacos, the 'dirty bird' (fried chicken), a burger with fries, chilli cheese fries, fries with melted cheese (we like fries). The calamari was great. It was the best of everything we ordered. Tender, lightly fried, tasty. The macaroni cheese was okay, apparently it used to come with feta and now it doesn't, which was of concern to Shirl. Maddy said her shrimp taco was good. The chilli cheese fries were half eaten, I got a quarter of the way through my burger before giving up - you'd get a better burger at burger fuel or handmade burgers across the road. The fried chicken was spicy and good but nothing to write home about. The fries with melted cheese were a disappointment. The fry to cheese ratio was pretty sad - hardly any cheese, and at $8.50 you'd expect something a bit better. On the plus side, the drinks were good - my peach and passionfruit caprioska was pretty nice, and the banoffee pie was proclaimed 'awesome'. The churros should come with a chocolate option (as opposed to just lemon curd and jam) but were nicely fried. I'd go here for drinks and maybe a couple of snacks, but not for a full meal. Side note: The staff were pretty good. Attentive despite the fact it was really busy, and relatively prompt with the food bringing. They didn't bring our second order of calamari and charged us for it, but when it was queried at the till, they immediately refunded us.

I have been watching Citizen Park come together as a bar and restaurant for the last few months, and when it opened recently I couldn't wait to check it out. The decor is fantastic; lots of brick and concrete. Light bulbs hanging in metal cages. Wooden tables and stools. Ivy on the ceiling. Great indoor/outdoor flow, with a whole other bar outside and a retro red light 'food' sign - Citizen Park looks great and the atmosphere of the joint is funky and relaxed - it'd be a great place to meet with a group of friends for drinks. The staff are all pretty young and friendly, and I have to say I was surprised by how many of them there were. I went to Citizen on a Sunday evening for dinner and there were seriously about 12 people working - quite a lot considering how slow the service was. It took my dad and I about 15 minutes to get a waitress's attention, and then it was another 15 minutes or so before our drinks actually turned up and we could order. As much as it pains me to say it - because I really want to like Citizen Park - there were quite a few things I experienced while there that I was unimpressed by. Firstly, all the cups are plastic - beer in a plastic glass wasn't my dad's idea of a good time. Secondly, when we went to order our meals we were told half the menu wasn't available as they didn't have the ingredients. While I understand Citizen is a new establishment, we should have been told this upon our arrival as it meant the only light meals that were available were burgers (and to be honest, they were pretty average but then again, they only cost $10). The other thing that was a bit strange was that when we asked the staff what some of the meals actually were, they didn't know. Options like 'gumbo' and 'tamele' are on the menu at Citizen, and although we asked three different people, no one could actually tell us what they were. These negatives having been said, Citizen has only just opened so hopefully they'll get their service sorted and smooth out the issues with their menu etc. It would be great to have another funky fun place to meet friends in Kingsland aside from Neighbourhood. So fingers crossed!

Great for a quick bite or long drink with friends. I have been here through summer for a beer or two with my dog .... Sometimes you need to get out ya know. It's nice the out door area also has a small smoking area so just because you wanna sit outside doesn't mean your coughing up in a cloud. Food ... Well it's good but not great. Chips could def be better, there a staple so if you have it right you can almost guarantee an order at ever table. Staff have always been nice and nothing is a problem. I will be back......

Visited Citizen Park today - just trying to check out a few places in Kingsland to decide if that is the right neighborhood. The staff were really pleasant, helping me find a powerpoint for my laptop and recommending the nachos. I ended up ordering a pint of pale ale ($9) and getting the beef burger ($18). The serving was massive and the burger was juicy. The waffle fries that came with the burger were really cripy but tasted like they were dusted with a lemon salt - a bit odd. Overall great place to watch the game, get some work done and get a reasonable lunch. Plus, I found parking on the right in front! Score.

My amazing meal @ Citizen Park for only $12!!!

To be fair, we did take our burgers out into a rainy night and drive them home to be eaten, and the were yummy, but not the best I've had. My creole burger had some punchy creole mayo and an onion ring which sadly was a big soggy following the drive home. It's nice to have a burger joint out in the burbs though, so I think next time we'll eat in and give it a fair shot. (And the guy from work took some colleagues along and they agreed it was one of the best burgers they'd ever had).

There was liquid coming out the wazoo, but luckily there were plenty of napkins on hand. I would certainly get the burger again, as it definitely tasted fresh and juicy! I also got some onion rings, which although were nice, I would probably not purchase again. For the same price as regular chips, I only got SIX rings... crazy!! My friend also enjoyed her meal, which included a beef burger and kumera chips. The store itself is quite small, so I would recommend going there knowing that you may have to order takeaways. I'm not particularly sure why, but they also had cold air conditioning on and it was freezing!! I'm unsure if they had access to a toilet, as I neither saw one or needed one. Overall, I will most likely return, albeit, not in any rush.

It's frustrating when you want to try all the yummy takeaways but live too far away to take it all the way home to then eat it cold! The menu is short and sweet! 4x burgers and a weekly special. This is probably the 1st time in a while I haven't been able to finish my burger whilst snacking on the chips. Although I love the concept of the burgers and flavours, as per the menu says "all patties served medium rare, unless otherwise requested". Sadly my patty was not MR, which meant getting to the end of the burger it left a rather dry taste in my mouth - hence why I couldn't quite finish my burger. What is great about the burger is the bun - which sounds odd, but the texture is great. It really holds its weight with the amount of sauce in the burger - it doesn't fall apart in your hands or become soggy which is a huge tick in my books! Who doesn't love a Fried Chicken Burger! - Awesomely huge, although could do with just that bit more sauce. The Kimchi Fries were great value for money, eye appealing and super crispy which stopped the chips from going soggy even under the sauce and toppings. My only qualm would be that I was expecting fatter chips - I am just biased I can't help it I am just not a skinny chip person. The food is served as efficiently as if ordering takeout but in this case you can enjoy a nice sit down with a cold beer on the side. Rating: Food: 8/10 Service: 9/10 Value for Money: Very Good

I had never seen anything like it and it was definitely a sight to watch! Prior to watching, I wasn't accustomed to Korean cuisine and hadn't even tried one single Korean dish. But the kimchi process was fascinating, and since that day, I have been (secretly) obsessed with Korean food and of course, kimchi. Cabbage never looked so good! Fast forward to today, where you can buy kimchi from various Asian stores in Auckland, but the most exciting thing I have discovered of late is Tiger Burger - burger and fries heaven... but with a twist! Kimchi in their burgers and fries! The restaurant has been open for a while, but I only managed to go a few nights' ago. I am so glad I did, because everything about Tiger Burger is awesome. Firstly, we loved the simplicity of their food and drink menus. For food, there are four burger options - beef, chicken, pork and vegetarian (plus a special every week), a few sides (fries and bites) and two desserts. Their drinks list is short too, with a few boutique beers, wines and cocktails (I tried their special of the week - 'Bae Bae' consisting of pear puree, El Dorado gold rum, ginger liqueur and cranberry juice, served in a martini glass. It tasted like pink grapefruit to me, but it was very refreshing). We also loved their non-alcoholic drinks - a must order is their Fentimans botanically brewed ginger beer! For food, we ordered the Kimcheese burger, the Vegetarian burger and of course, their famous Kimcheese fries. They were all WOW, in particular the Kimcheese fries (which I shall attempt to make at home!): Kimcheese burger - grilled beef, sauteed kimchi, aged cheddar and chilli mayo. This burger is part of Metro's Top 10 Burgers, and I can definitely see why. It's Juicy. Messy. Spicy. It oozes cheese. There's sauteed kimchi (woop woop), and the buns taste like sweet doughnuts. What's not to like about this burger?! Kimcheese fries - we absolutely LOVED them! Definitely my favourite fries in Auckland to date (sorry Poutine from The Fed). Imagine fries, topped with kimchi, aged cheddar, creme sauce, kimchi ketchup and spring onion - absolute heaven. Definitely order these! Vegetarian burger - this burger was top notch. The crispy shiitake and kumara patty was not dry (unlike other vegetarian burgers in Auckland) and was accompanied by a creamy slaw, yang nyum sauce and mayo - the perfect balance of flavours and very tasty. We also loved the interior - it's clean, the seating is wooden benches/bar stools (but it suits the place), the decor is black and white, with animal prints on the walls and there's Korean signage. The vibe is also super cool, from the music to the friendly and welcoming staff. I enjoyed every minute of my time at Tiger Burger and I'm sure you will too!

I already had my eye on this place and free dinner sounded like something we couldn't say no to, so we accepted. We purchased some awesome fries and beers to accompany our meals. Let me say that this review has nothing to do with the fact that our burgers were free. They were fantastic! Large, flavorful, fresh and filling! We shared as we both like chicken and beef and were beyond satisfied. The owner (I think) and his coworker were very sweet and we had the best experience. I wish we had room for the list of amazing milkshakes on their menu, but unfortunately we did not. We thanked them with a gracious tip and went on our way. I'm not sure who was taking photos but my guess is the NZ Urbanlist or something similar on Instagram. Can't wait to see them as I am sure they represent the taste well!

I love the chill vibes and trendy but lowkey ambiance. We sat in a booth which was really fun and round, and though it wasn't super busy, we waited a bit before we could get menus. About 15 mins later, someone came to take our orders. The staff looked busy but there were 2 people working the floor there and only three tables aside from us. Anyway, it didn't bother me too much, and when a person came to chat with us, I asked them if I could get anything vegan. They can do the vegetarian burger vegan-style, as long as you switch out the bun for a gluten free one and take off the special sauce. I thought the buns were really cute and was a bit disheartened to have to get a gluten free bun, but I decided to give it a shot. The guy working there had an amazing knowledge of vegan things, he even knew which beers they had that were vegan. My boyfriend ordered the classic burger, which arrived much cuter looking than mine. He got the combo, which means he also got fries and a soda. The fries were a bit greasy, but I guess thats what makes them "fries." I still ate half :) He tried the blueberry and lime soda, which was super good. My burger was definitely vegan and gluten-free tasting. The "burger" was a battered and fried onion, with more batter than onion. It tasted a bit like fried white flour. It had a portabello mushroom on top, which added a bit of flavor, and I asked for avocado as well. There was the tiniest bit of avocado added, which was also a bit disappointing as it costs a shitload extra for avocado. (okay like $2 but still) The gluten free bun was, as most gluten free bread, crumbly and not ideal. I ordered it, so I can't be mad, but it wasn't the best. I think next time I'd just wrap it in lettuce. But next time I probably wouldn't get the burger, so... I guess I'd just go for fries. #veganlife All in all, it was a bit less than the experience that I'd hoped for. The staff was friendly (if slow), and the food was mediocre but decently priced (we paid like $33 total). I probably wouldn't go back, but I'm happy we finally tried it. If you're a meat eater, you'd probably like it a bit more than I did :)

The White Lady is a food truck serving a variety of burgers and sandwiches, as well as chips. There is no seating, so they offer take away only. I was a little uncomfortable, as there was a group of homeless people sitting and laying down right next to the food truck. Because of this, I just wanted to grab my food and go. The food took about 15 mins to finish and we were out of there. They did have tomato sauce, as well as garlic aoli sauce, free to take as much as you want. I ordered the White Lady, which is one of their signature burgers. It had a beef patties, Scotch steak, Colby cheese, bacon, fried egg, grilled pineapple, fried onions, lettuce, and tomato. It sounded like a ton of ingredients, but I figured I had to try their namesake burger. I had taken my food back to my hotel, which was only about a 10-15 minute walk back. Understandably, the burger was a bit soggy. That wasn't the worst part though. My main gripe with this burger though, was the Scotch steak. It was probably my fault for not entirely knowing what a Scotch steak was. The steak was chewy and I was NOT able to bite it off each time I took a bite of the burger. After a couple bites struggling to separate the steak from the rest of the burger, I ended up just taking the steak out and eating it with a fork and knife. I cannot understand why you would put something on a burger if it cannot be bitten off solely with your teeth. It goes against the point of having something handheld. On top of that, the steak was very bland. The burger patties itself was okay, nothing amazing. I come from the United States, the home of fatty foods and the best burgers, so maybe I just have high standards. For me, this place was a one and done just to see what the hype was about.
