A little back story to set the stage for why I'm taking the time to write this review... My wife is a cosmetologist with over 25 years of experience and is the very nearly the only person I have trusted to put scissors and razor to my head for nearly all of those 25 years. Before my wife it was mostly other family as cosmetology is kinda a thing with my family. The rare few outside of the aforementioned family rarely passed muster. My point being that my family trained me to expect and recognize good work. This past Memorial Day weekend was a special holiday weekend for us insofar as we would be flying about 1400 miles to Casper, Wyoming for the first time to visit our best friends and to attend their son's graduation. As usual when preparing for a trip we forget something and/or we run out of time to do one thing or another. This trip being no different than any other, time ran out before my wife could do her magic on most especially my beard. My beard, which had never before gone for more than 2-3 weeks without a trim, now had over 9 months of growth behind it with little maintenance and was very seriously in need of attention. Of course, there was no way TSA was going to let my wife on a plane with her scissors and a razor. There was also no way my wife was going to check her very expensive shears and razor with any airline... Nevertheless, for such an momentous occasion, I would have to overcome my trepidation of having anyone other than my wife cut my hair and beard and resign myself to being unfaithful to my dear wife's mad skills with scissors and a razor. What's scruffy fella to do when going someplace he has never been before and looking for great service? Yelp of course! Based on the Yelp reviews and their Facebook page, Citizen Shave was the only establishment that my wife or I didn't out right disqualify in all of Casper. So I, a little nervously, made my appointment on Facebook. I loved that I got an automatic confirmation and reminders on my phone and to my email. From nearly the very moment I walked in I felt at ease with Dan. He was ready to go, friendly, and easy to talk to but didn't try to talk my ears off. His attention to detail was impeccable. Having noted the pictures on his FB page I had some questions about how best to care for and maintain my beard as I let it grow out. Dan patiently answered my questions and made several great recommendations. Though my wife would have preferred my hair longer and beard (much) shorter, she knows quality work when she sees it and was impressed with Dan's work. As for myself, Dan gave me exactly what I asked for and I couldn't be happier with the work he did. Outside of the compliments from friends and family since I saw Dan, I also received compliments on his work from complete strangers. I have very rarely experience the later before. Bottom line, neither my wife or I would give a second thought to me cheating on her scissors and razor if Dan's were a little closer. If ever I find myself in Casper again I will be stopping in whether I need it or not. My only lament is that Citizen Shave is about 1000 miles west on US-20 from where I live. If you have read this far I think you have got my point. Don't think about it any further. Just go see Dan! You won't regret it and you will have found a true gold standard for your shave and haircut expectations. This is a Fantastic shop. Dan the owner is a great Guy. We go back a few Years but had lost touch for a while. I had heard of the Shop but had no idea who's it was. For sure once I knew it was Dans I was going to visit and I'm glad I did. Got a great cut, Great conversation. The Proper Barber Shop i was looking for. He has the sharpest single edge razor west of the Mississippi. Didn't feel a thing. A visit to his shop is definitely worth it. Thanks for Cut Dan. read more

I have never in my life had such a rushed and awful haircut. I showed up 10 minutes early and was out the door 1 minute after my haircut was schedule for. I showed him a picture of myself with the same haircut I wanted again. Let me add that I am not particular with my hair in any way shape or form but there is chunks of my hair on the left side of my head that are an inch and half longer than the rest of my hair (and this is not the style of the haircut) , the "shaved" portion around my ear is twice the size on the left ear as it is on the right ear. He was going go so fast with the clippers that it was literally pulling my hair out as he was cutting it, and was shaving so fast that I thought he was going to slice my neck open not to mention that I have razor burn all over the back of my neck. He then gelled my hair to hide his crappy job and spun me around in the chair so fast I could not even look at my hair, then practically rushed me out the door. I have never seen someone take so little pride in their job, if you didn't want to take your time you should have asked me to reschedule or cancelled my appointment all together. I was recommended to go here by a friend and will definitely recommend going to any other place that cuts hair, I bet a child with scissors could do a better job. Let me also add that this pissed me off so bad that I wrote my first ever yelp review. read more

Was a last minute decision and didn't have an appointment. Walked in and was told he was appointment only, but the appointment was cancelled so he worked me in. Great little place, great atmosphere and amazing cut and shave! Slightly more than I normally pay but worth it for the hot towels and straight razor treatment! Definitely recommended if you're in Casper and need a trim and beard clean up! read more
