We went valentines day 2026. ill cut tot the chase... the cruise was from 7-930 pm. We got seated quickly however we didn't get served until close to eight. Some people were just getting their meal at 8:45. There were two DJs one to the left of the boat and one to the right. Unfortunately, we ended up on the the right with the DJ that played music so old and slow I could almost smell the mold off of the album covers The sad part about this was there was a mixed age group on the right side. The couple next to me were clearly in their early 20s I am mid 50s even still, none of us could identify with these old slow songs the DJ was playing. The dessert came literally when we were pulled back into port. The complimentary roses they advertised were extremely wilted. My total package cost was over $530 dollars and I felt as though what they delivered did not live up to what they advertised. We did the Washington DC Premier Dinner Cruise on the Odyssey. The food was decent. However, I called their customer service ahead of time, before booking (a month in advance), to ask about allergy-free options as all 3 of their appetizers had shellfish or the fruit my wife was allergic to, they said they would leave a note and we would have other options available, I also put a note in my reservation about those options. When the waiter came to our table, he had no information about the allergy issue, wanted to ask his manager what options to do. The manager was so busy, he never got around to us and my wife suggested a solution. The music was loud, as in my wife and I were shouting for conversation. The meals came around the same time for everyone, but most plates were gone for appetizers before we had resolved our issue. The food was overall good, in line with a good wedding reception, however, that is not how the whole package for an elegant Washington cruise was billed. If you want to go to an overpriced wedding reception where you only know your party, this is definitely for you. In between courses, we went outside as we could actually talk and reminisce about our 21 years of marriage (it was our anniversary). That was the best time overall, but that alone did not merit the lofty price tag. Adding also to the parking rates and 2 drinks each, that was another $100. For both of us, it was worth it to say we did it, but it was incredibly disappointing and while our waiter was nice, he was clearly overworked and not having information about our allergy when I was reassured prior to booking upset me. read more

I recently went on the Holiday Dinner Cruise with City Cruises in DC, and it was such a unique and memorable seasonal experience. Here's what I tried: Blue Crab and Potato Chowder Very good, rich, and comforting on a cold night. Pan-Seared Chicken Breast Also very good. The mambo sauce, a true DC tradition, absolutely slapped. Orange Olive Oil Cake I am usually not an orange dessert person, but I love olive oil cake, and they did a great job with this. Light and flavorful without being overpoweringly citrusy. Before we set sail, I had the chance to try shrimp wontons and mini beef Wellington bites. I was with a special group, so I don't know if these are typically offered and I wouldn't count on it being a standard part of the experience. The bar selection on board was also very good and had plenty of options. To set expectations, this is not meant to be a fine-dining, award-winning chef situation, though the food is solid and enjoyable. You are not going on this cruise primarily for the food. Atmosphere and Experience The real highlight is the atmosphere. The views of DC at night from the water are stunning, with monuments and bridges lit up around you. It feels festive, peaceful, and special, especially during the holiday season. This is a great option if you have family visiting or you just want to do something unique for the holidays. My family had an excellent time on our Father's Day cruise! I would say for the price this is a fair experience to have. We were supposed to cruise on the spirit, but there wasn't enough people for that boat so they combined our party with the odyssey ship. The ship is supposed to start checking in 45 minutes early, but our check-in started a little late which resulted in the ship taking off about 15 minutes late. My husband and I got on the boat last and it was a little chaotic with the seat arrangement even though the ship wasn't completely full, but it's fine because we were still quickly seated. The mimosas were flowing the entire cruise and we were able to get a lot of food. There were three different types of salad, breakfast eggs, sausage, bacon, French toast, salmon, boneless chicken thighs, beef cut, and chicken tenders and french fries for the kids. There were tons of desserts and fresh fruit. Everything tasted so delicious! The DJ was cool! He played all of the line dances lol the staff was so amazing. They ended up teaching a lot of the dance moves for everyone to learn. The staff on board was just so exceptionally kind, helpful, and very genuine. Our server even offered to watch our baby so me and my husband could enjoy a dance together. Her name is Candace and she is so so so so great!!!!!! Our cruise was a total of two hours and we got to hang out when it docked at the end for another 10 minutes. Probably because they started late. It was a great time and the sites were amazing. I think my only complaint would be I wish they would bring out food refills at the buffet quicker because by the time I got in line, some stuff was missing that I wanted and I had to wait a while to get it like salad. read more

I booked the Potomac Cruise Experience in Washington, DC for 13 family members to celebrate my daughter's Medical School graduation, and unfortunately it was a huge disappointment. However, the actual experience did not match what was advertised or what we paid for. We were told we would be on a double-decker sightseeing cruise with narration highlighting the national monuments and landmarks along the Potomac. Instead, our family was placed on what was essentially a Water Taxi with no narration. The experience we received appeared to be the same type of ride that typically costs around $15-$20, yet we paid about $30 per person expecting a true sightseeing cruise experience. With a group of 13 people, including seniors, this was especially frustrating. The limited outside deck area was extremely small, and our family had to squeeze together just to take a graduation group photo. Boarding was also very difficult for some of our elderly family members, and the vessel did not feel ADA-friendly or accessible. To make matters worse, when we arrived at The Wharf, we actually saw the double-decker sightseeing boats that had been advertised -- just not the one we were placed on. That was incredibly disappointing after planning this as part of such an important family celebration. This was not the graduation experience I expected or paid for. read more

It is a very lively atmosphere and if you get tired of the music you can walk along the boat deck and enjoy the weather and view. Went on this plated lunch cruise with my mom while she was in town. It was overall a nice random getaway from the house. The ship was nowhere near even half full but there were plenty of staff to support and serve us. We were able to get a window seat luckily. The DJ was nice and pretty hype, and played the oldies and line dances as if you were at an American wedding. The scenery wasn't fantastic but I liked that the DJ also served as pseudo tour guide and pointed things out on the left and right. Loved the glass ceiling and all around windows that allowed a lot of light in without having to leave the cool of the air conditioning. It was too hot to hang out on the outside, but I liked the option. The food was ok, a lot of the items didn't match the menu description. The salad with arugula and strawberries was pretty good, refreshing and light for summer. The soup was on the salty side but also good with a few shrimps in it; I don't remember a feta mousse. The mains were not impressive... Chicken and salmon were both dry and pretty overcooked. The vegetables were scarce, and sauce was meh for both. I think the salmon was supposed to come with succotash and potatoes but you can see that the vegetables were almost non-existent and there were no potatoes that I could recall or see in the picture. The desserts were the stars. The chocolate cake was not too sweet and I loved the crunchy cookie crust - I didn't taste the Kahlua if there was any (which I don't mind). The basque cheesecake was good too -- the blueberries were not macerated and there was no chocolate sauce or vanilla bean sauce, so there's a menu discrepancy or something... But overall we enjoyed both desserts. I think it's a steal to go on a 2hr cruise and get a meal for ~$60pp including tip (we had a discount), and I'd still do the $80ish full price if I had a group celebration or if I had visitors in town. We booked the Odyssey Bottomless Mimosa Brunch for our Class Reunion! Let's start with the cost. The cruise was reasonably priced for all the mimosas you could drink. The brunch included a variety of food such as eggs, potatoes, french toast, bacon, sausage, fruit, salad, etc. The food was decent and there were enough options for all dietary restrictions. The service was impeccable. The gentleman assigned to our group kept the drinks flowing and did his best to accommodate all of our requests. I would recommend bringing cash to tip the waitstaff because they go above and beyond. The ambiance was nice. The DJ played a variety of music and it was high energy the entire time. After eating you have the opportunity to get on the dance floor and explore the ship. Now, one huge issue was the glass ceilings and lack of air! As the ship sailed the temperature rose and we had zero defense against the beaming hot sun. We literally felt like we were melting. People started to create paper fans out of the menus and that wasn't enough. We tried to go outside to catch a breeze and there was nothing stirring on the water. We were sweating profusely for well over 30mins. It might have been a combination of champagne and sunshine. I would recommend this cruise in the fall or winter. It could truly be a great experience if it wasn't too hot. Also, several of the people in my group wanted the buffet to stay up a little longer, but I know they took it down because it sat near the dance floor. read more

My family and I decided to cruise with Odyssey for my bridal weekend. For $160 per person, I would have expected to receive Michelin Star quality food. The vessel looks nice from the outside. The cruise itself was lovely, and we actually sailed over to the National Harbor. The views of the historic DC landscape from the water was stunning. Some room for improvement would be the temperature of the food. Majority of my party said their food was lukewarm. The drinks were $20 a pop, and the alcohol was absent. The DJ played a few upbeat tracks, but I would have preferred a wider variety of rap, hip hop, & R&B. The service was good & everyone I encountered was friendly. Hopefully they improve the food & cocktail program in the future! read more

From the wharf, we are able to take water taxis to Mount Vernon, Alexandria and Georgetown. There are one way tickets and round-trip tickets available for the water taxi. The taxis travel during the day and in the evening, but they do not go to downtown Washington DC near the monuments. The sightseeing cruises leave from the wharf and pass the monuments along the Potomac with views of the Lincoln Memorial, the George Washington Memorial.... There are one hour and two hours sightseeing cruises, but none of them are at Sunset. The last ride is at 4:30. They offer round-trip cruise with three hours to explore George Washington's Mount Vernon Garden and estate. read more

We did the City Cruises as an an opportunity for restaurant week. Having been on one before let's just say, you're goin for the cruise itself, not the food. The bread was fine, salad was plain, but my gnocchi was really good. The food was not hot but warm. The dessert buffet was alright, general cafeteria food. Definitely the point is to be outside to get views and I was sad we didn't cruise Georgetown like we had before. We saw City Cruises as an option for DC restaurant week, so you know we had to go! We arrived about 30 minutes before the cruise started and we were seated right away. We got a bread basket and then our appetizer salad. The salad was a little sad, it could have used more toppings. We then got to order our entrees and drinks. The included drinks are coffee and tea. For the price, I wish we got one soda or alcohol beverage. While we waited for our food, we got to stand on the outside of the ship. The outside of the ship has a deck that you can walk around and look at the view. When we got back inside and they had set out our food. They left lids on the food to keep it warm, which was appreciated. I got the salmon and it was very good. Around this time they had a DJ that started playing more party music. We danced some and then went back outside. They then have a dessert buffet with peach cobbler, different cheesecakes and fruit. The cruise experience took a bit over 2 hours. We parked at a garage at the wharf and it was $37, so I'd recommend taking the metro. I enjoyed watching the skyline, though we were a bit bummed that the ship turned before we got to see the Kennedy center or Georgetown. I would recommend everyone see DC from the water, it is definitely a bucket list experience. read more

BLUF: the cruises appear understaffed and/or staffed by people who really don't want to be there, and it shows I went with a large group for a Saturday afternoon cruise. The staff there do a lot of yelling to try to get people to go to the right lines and so on. Most people can't hear them, and frankly they would make the lives of both themselves and the customers happier if they just had some decent signage up in the loading area. They pack every possible inch of table space with a chair, so expect tight seating. Don't pick a chair near a window if you plan to get up often, because you will have to ask 3-6 others to move to let you out once everyone is seated. On a related note, if you have someone in a wheelchair prepare to have to figure out seating. Yes, the boat is wheelchair accessible. But because of the tight seating there aren't many places a wheelchair comfortably fits, especially the larger motorized ones. And the staff doesn't set aside or prep an area for you. We had to find a spot, move the chairs and find someone to tell us where to put them out of the way (you can't just put them to the side, because no place to put them). The staff I asked about that gave me a pretty annoyed look and then said "I don't know, try putting them over there." The food is pretty good. My advice is to get all you want, or might want, on the first pass through the buffet. They run out of things quickly, and if you plan to go back you may be disappointed. Also, they had issues keeping the trays stocked, i.e. it took a while before someone noticed an empty tray and got a new one in its place. Ambience: it gets really loud on the dining deck. Between the DJ and the sound of a few hundred conversations and parties, it can be pretty hard to take. Bail out to the upper deck or outside the main dining area to get a break. The top deck is a great way to spend your time when you are done eating. Service at the tables was not very good. For our group only tea, coffee and water was included, so you had to special order even a soda. Our waitress was slow, and the delivery of drinks wasn't coordinated well. We found that you pretty much had to order something twice to get it eventually. If you are getting a drink, order 2-3 of them right from the start, because getting another one may take a while. I ordered a coke and was done eating before it arrived. From talking to the staff, they are very understaffed and that may have contributed to the delays and general surliness of the servers. Overall, it's not a bad experience, but I wouldn't recommend it at the full price. Maybe if you get a good discount. The view from the top deck along the way is the best aspect of the cruise. read more

We went on the Odyssey DC with a large group for a graduate school event on a Friday night, and it was pretty fun. There was a three course menu (appetizer, entree, and dessert) with 3-4 choices for each course. Food was ok. I got the grilled peaches arugula salad, salmon, and fruits. The grilled peaches were good, but the salad itself was not fresh, and some pieces were going bad. The salmon was dry. Some friends got the steak and it was overcooked, and not edible. I would say the crowd is mainly middle-aged, or older folks, some there for a special occasion. The ambience and atmosphere was good, especially as it got later in the night. The DJ played a variety of music and really catered to the crowd. The boat ride is pretty smooth. You can go on the deck and take pictures, and it's great especially during golden hour. Bathrooms were clean, however there was a smell by the entrance when you enter inside. read more

We paid too much for the worst experience ever! We arrived at the pier at 10:30 am. Although there were long lines and boarding was supposed to start at 11 am with an 11:30 am departure, they didn't start boarding until 11:20 am and we departed at 12 pm. We paid extra for a table by a window which was dirty and above shoulder level. Because of large crowded tables, loud music, & poor acoustics, we couldn't carry on a conversation. Even our smart watches warned us about loud noise. The food was mediocre and the service was poor. We waited 40 minutes to get our glasses of wine and we had to ask 4 times to pay for our wine so that we could go outside. The boat traveled in circles and there was very little notable scenery (i.e., only distant views of the Washington Monument & Anacostia Bridge). Save your money and avoid this tourist trap! read more

We booked a group of 8 for the cruise. They wanted to put us downstairs but three members of our party had mobility issues (aged 78, 79 and 90) and couldn't handle the steps. Accommodations were made to seat us upstairs which meant a waiter had an extra table. And it goes down hill from there. We had to ask for mimosas three to four time. While others were getting refills- we had none. The music was so loud, we received alerts on our phones about the unsafe noise levels. This was not the cruise for us and was more of a party boat. If we had of known that this was a super Loud party boat, we would not have booked. We ended up going outside in the cold due to the excessively loud music. They ran out of food- read more

The food was great as well as the service. The pictures you can see I had the roasted red pepper bisque, smoked chili-rubbed Atlantic salmon, and finished off with the chocolate truffle crunch cake. It was all great. The salmon wasn't dry, it was flavorful and especially the bisque . It's also great to be able to walk around outside while cruising and isn't windy having to worry about your drink flying away. The DJ would also point out landmarks while cruising and some history of them along the way. I highly recommend this experience to anyone and everyone and will likely take my family to one of the many options whether it be brunch that includes bottomless mimosas, lunch or another dinner cruise. They would love it. You definitely need to take advantage of an experience and share it with friends and family. Especially if you have visitors. read more

We were on the Odyssey Lunch Cruise leaving from the Wharf. The roasted red pepper soup was fabulous the salmon annd chicken dishes were good as well. Our server was very pleasant. However, I need to manage your expectations for the rest of the cruise experience. 1) This cruise is not as advertised. The website said, "The most breathtaking views of the nation's greatest landmarks." This sounded perfect for our out of town guests. We saw the top third of the Washington Monument from a distance. We never saw another monument. We saw Fort McNair, Haines Point, Bolling Air Force Base, Naval Research Lab, the sewage plant, Old Town, Crystal City, and National Airport. Hardly breathtaking views. 2) As I mentioned the food was delicious, but the dessert I chose was described on the menu as "Fresh berries, pineapple, garden mint, and lime spritz." This sounded like a nicely elevated fruit dessert. We waited 45 minutes for dessert and when it arrived, it was 4 raspberries, 3 cubes of pineapple, and maybe a dozen blueberries -- no mint, and no lime spritz. 3) The temperature inside was unbearable. It was like being in a greenhouse. We were all sweating and the backs of our legs sticking to the chair. The ceiling is glass, but the glass is so dirty you can't see the sky anyway. A retractable shade on the top would keep the sun from beating down on you. The shade could be rolled back for evening cruises. They could also improve their air conditioning system. As uncomfortable as I was, I felt really bad for the staff who were running back and forth serving the meals. 4) Crowd management during boarding was non existent. I had to get out of line to find someone to confirm I was even in the right line. Then when we got closer to the boat, there was a sign saying Odyssey to the right, Spirit to the left. There was a corporate function on the Odyssey and staff members tried to direct me to the Spirit line. I stood my ground and insisted I was in the right line until finally I encountered a staff person who seemed to know what was going on and let my party board. read more

My friends and I attended the Halloween black pearl cruise. For what we paid for with the ticket price is what we could have gotten anywhere else in the city - insanely long lines for the bar with (I'm sorry) bartenders making drinks who seemed like they have never been behind the bar a night in their life. We ordered 2 drinks and each cup was halfway full - nobody on the ship was dancing. Almost every guest was either in line for the bar or sitting at a table the entire time - two of the "hottest djs in the city" but the dj on the main party floors speakers were blown out and you could barely hear the music I would not recommend these cruises to anyone in there mid 20s to early 30s looking for a fun time. Do NOT recommend at night! Unless you go outside all you can see is your reflection. Once outside you CANNOT see the monuments well as they advertised. They are extremely far away. They advertise the Lincoln Memorial and all you can see is the very top of the building illuminated! The salmon, salad, potatoes and deserts were good. The rolls were hard as a brick. We took one of the cruises during restaurant week to see the city from the water. My friends were really excited to try and I figured why not. Our server seemed to be covering quite a few tables, and she somehow skipped over us and left us to order last. Thankfully it did not impact the speed of our food. The food overall was pretty tasty, and I thought they did a great job on the dessert bar. Drinks, appetizers, and window seating were all extra. It would have been nice to have received complimentary champagne or SOMETHING included in the price. The views were excellent - we sailed from the wharf, past Maryland and DC and ended near Old Town Alexandria. Seeing DC from the water was a highlight of the experience. I will say... we cruised with a lot of wanna-be instagram queens who asked us (and sometimes didn't!) to move so their could get an optimal photo. It felt a bit much and definitely soured a bit of the experience. Nothing the cruise line can do, but just something to be mindful. Finally, the DJ started to play some dance music towards the end that appealed to about half the crowd (the rest being older families). This definitely created a divide among guests and forced patrons to either join in on the dance party, or go outside. I felt a bit bad for those that seemed to be pushed outside. Also, many of the staff joined in or strongly encouraged dancing/extra drinks which felt a bit off putting. read more

I received a gift card to City Cruises from my staff. (Yes, they are that amazing.) I planned a Mother's Day outing for myself, sister and mom. Then we got COVID the week we were supposed to go. I called and they quickly helped me rebook. Super easy and great customer service. Today is a beautiful day to be on the Potomac. We were quickly seated, right against the window. The AC works, so bring a jacket if you get cold. Bottomless mimosas for the win. They are super organized. No mad dash for the buffet. I so appreciate that. Also the food is amazing and made on ship. The DJ is awesome. Our server Lachelle is amazing. She's funny and on top of the refills. We love her. The people watching is top notch. Such an amazing experience. read more

We booked a dinner cruise with City Cruises. Located along the Potomac at DCs warf, they offer lunch and dinner cruises of an hour or two. The crew is very accommodating. It is easy to book a cruise on their website or buy tickets on site. There are 2 ships.The cruise ships are very elegant. My only disappointment was that they had a DJ instead of someone explaining the sights, as has been my experience on other dinner cruises. Yesterday I went here with my family of four for fathers day at first it seemed pretty nice, the staff were really nice and the lady at the front who was greeting everyone, Monica she was welcoming everyone very nicely, but anyway we got to our table which was alright and we had a nice waiter but at first, we were confused about how we would get servered so we waited for a bit we saw a bunch of people get their food so we asked another waitress If our waiter was coming she looked a bit confused so then she said that our waiter would be with us shortly than he came and said we could go to the buffet and we got up and got food which wasn't that great the food could have been better and there should have been more options, and just as a side note I have been on this boat before a couple years back and it was nothing like this, also they were supposed to bring us Shrimp Cocktail that was supposed to be in a cocktail glass and the website showed a different picture than what we got we got cooked shrimp on a plate with some sauce it looked nothing like the picture. But anyway we were and they took away the buffet after less than an hour and the DJ was playing deafening music and you could not even talk to the people next to you because the music was way too loud and they only played rap songs but when I went a couple of years back they played quiet jazz music and we were actually served we had menus and waiters and waitresses would bring food to you but it's changed so much but anyway later on the DJ was talking about if anybody is Celebrating anything else other than Father's Day please let him know and people started coming up to him and he started announcing other stuff and he played all sorts of loud rap music and people were dancing and like it was crazy and there was also a bar inside and the bartender, waitresses and waiters got on the dance floor and started dancing and I was just like aren't you guys supposed to be doing your job? And people were getting drunk and going crazy so I went outside with my family Until we got back but before we left we went back and inside to get something and My mom spilled water all over the table on accident and our waiter cleaned it up for us he was really really nice and we gave him a Big tip cause he was so nice and then we left as we were leaving My mom decided to talk to Monica the lady at the front they had a nice conversation and then we left as we were leaving and they offered chocolate to everyone and it was good btw. So that's it I probably wouldn't come back but this was my honest opinion and I hope if you're reading this you'll know better than we did thank you for reading!! read more

The food for the 2025 Thanksgiving cruise, lunch cruise was the absolute best food I have ever had of any Thanksgiving in my life and I am 49. The chef put his heart and soul, love into that cooking!!!!! Absolutely great experience. The staff was amazing. They hustled so hard and danced while they did it!
