You managed to take what was going to be a nothing day and totally make it all worthwhile (throws beret or special 12312-2 glasses in the air). When I first heard about the eclipse a year ago, I had to pick my city and it came down to Carbondale, Indianapolis or Cleveland and I chose you. The light cloud cover changed nothing. The moon covered the sun and we saw the glowing white halo, and also some red spots - solar prominences. It was amazing that it was bright and warm and seconds later, dark and cold. The grounds here are very well maintained with this memorial towering over everything else. The two volunteers working inside shared lots of the details of the place along with meanings of the different architectural features and works. The mosaic floors and alcoves were impressive but the 10 ton marble statue of Garfield is certainly the highlight. Centered in a circular room on the main floor, he is well lit above and surrounded by stain glass windows depicting the original colonies on all sides. The details in the statue itself are impressive right down to the laces of his shoes. Take the circular staircase up a level for a birds eye view. You can also sneak a good peak of the downtown Cleveland skyline in the distance. Head back down two levels to the crypt and see Garfield's flag draped coffin alongside his wife's. Admission is free but there is a donation box to help maintain things. Our visit lasted about 15 minutes and was well worth the walk from the Mayfield gate. Just follow the white line on the road to the left to reach it.

It's in the Far East part of Cleveland and there's some amazing food out here. It's not the safest neighbourhood, especially at night, but it's hipstery and well-manicured and exciting and nice, and it's definitely one of the heartbeats of the city, much like Ohio City which is more close to Center, and the West Side Market. It's an amazing City, and an underrated one. And neighbourhoods like this are one of the reasons why. So try a gyro from Best Gyros, and perhaps try a legendary Godfather Sandwich from Melt, and definitely try a milkshake or better yet, a malt, from Tommy's as well. NE Ohio is a whole world unto itself, it's a region, a destination, a little country that has little in common with the rest of Ohio. It's not nearly as Midwestern as other parts. My favourite thing is that the food here is phenomenal. While Pitt is a more gorgeous city (than almost any other), and has some food gems, Cleveland has more "must try" spots than Pitt, Columbus, Cinci, Detroit and Toledo put together. Bold claim, I know, but there are just so many things in Cleveland that you need to, need to, need to eat. And yes I'm going to tell you what they are. And if you prefer a more spicy kind of city, then I suggest going to Cloveland instead. They have some amazing options - very few of them healthy - but all of them delicious, and some among the very best in the country. Interesting structure that is Italianate-influenced with a hipped roof and curved bay windows. It's actually listed on the National Register of Historic Places and was designated as a Cleveland Landmark in 2006. There's a historical marker in front of the house. It reads in part: The Cozad-Bates House is one of the oldest remaining structures in Cleveland's University Circle. The original section, built circa 1853, is the only pre-Civil War residential structure left in the neighborhood. Built by Samuel and Jane Cozad's son, Andrew Cozad, the first section used locally made brick to form a simple two-story, one-room-deep, vernacular English-I house. The family owned a large portion of the land which is now occupied by University Circle. Worth a look if you're interested in history and architecture. It's important to remember where we came from.

We took advantage of the annual walk on the lower level of the Veterans Memorial Bridge. We did…read morehave to park and walk a little way because the area was so busy. The walk is free and you have to sign a waiver before entering. They made it very easy with staff waiting to help you near the entrance. Dogs are allowed in the walk. They positioned bands at each end of the bridge and one in the middle. There was also a medical station in the event of an emergency. The experience was unique to me. Views of the river were somewhat obstructed by much of the bridge. The walk was down the middle portion so there was no getting close to the edge. This was clearly for safety reasons. I am happy we were able to walk the bridge this year.

The…read morebridge is half a mile in distance so walkers, runners, and bikers can use the pedestrian path. The bridge is well kept and clean. ANNUAL TOUR -- I and plenty of residents and visitors got lucky to see what lies beneath the bridge for the annual self-guided bridge tour and lights show (see my attached photos). This free event was part of a series of events around Cleveland that honours the 50th anniversary of the Cuyahoga River catching on fire. On Saturday, 22 June 2019, the Cuyahoga County's Public Works Department department hosted a tour of the Veteran's Memorial Bridge and Subway station. The bridge tour was awesome. The lower deck (dark, abandoned tunnel), is the part of the bridge I got to tour and that's the part that was open for viewing. According to an online source, this part of the bridge has not been used since 1954 when streetcars were discontinued and it is rarely shown to the public. LIGHTS SHOW -- It was amazing!!! I arrived around 9:30pm. There was one section of the bridge where lights moved around in a pattern on the floor and another section where there were string lights hung up. All the lights had different colours. The whole lights display was fantastic and there was music playing too (see my attached photos). The organization of the event was great and police officers were around to keep everyone safe. I read the details online and signed my waiver beforehand. So when I arrived, I didn't have to wait to sign a waiver. Also, there really was no line to enter the bridge. I had about 2 people in front of me when I arrived. Once I got inside the bridge, it was crowded but not horribly so because people came in and out. I really enjoyed this unique opportunity to view the inside of the bridge (below the car level). My favourite part besides the lights show was seeing the old streetcars that were stationed inside; they looked like subway trains. I also loved the downtown Cleveland view of the Flats neighbourhood from the bridge especially the sunset. I recommend the bridge tour to anyone visiting Cleveland during the summer and also to Cleveland residents. This is a vast museum. I had no idea all these rooms existed on what seems to be a small corner of…read moreUniversity Circle. The carrousel from Euclid Beach encased in a glass sphere dominates the street corner. Two rides are included with admission to the museum. Near the carrousel on the main floor and in the basement are many cars. The basement has some newer models (i.e., 2000s), but the upstairs has models dating back to the carriage era. I found the electric cars the most interesting - how we have come full circle as the times change. A Goodyear blimp gondola was even on display. The basement also had a "Street of Shops" which appeared to be similar to what the William McKinley museum has in operation. Unfortunately, because it was my favorite part of the McKinley museum, Western Reserves' Street of Shops was closed. Ridiculously, a sign blamed lighting and a bumpy road for the closure. Enroute to the parking garage is the more modern part of the museum. There's a neat model of the Terminal Tower and a timeline on the wall from Moses Cleveland to the Cavs championship. Then covering a considerable amount of space are two houses. One of the homes contains general museum galleries, though the structure of the home and the gardens are cool in and of themselves. The other house, you can walk through or take a guided tour (free with admission). This house was a bit disappointing, as it wasn't restored or designed to resemble its original appearance. It has been used as a place to showcase period furniture and artifacts. So no getting to see how the family's whose stories touched this house lived. All in all I'm glad I finally took the time to visit this museum Not sure what took me so long, but don't make the same mistake.
