Glad to see Millbrae is catching up with technology. EV parking is located on El Camino off Millbrae Ave. For us PHEV/EV drivers, we now have 4 charging stations (Chargepoint) in the lot where Bambu and Ben Tre are located. Great location as parking here with all the Chinese Dim Sum joints are packed, especially during the weekend. Half a day on Saturday though parking is off limits with the Farmer's Market. I like the divider on Broadway with trees. Keeps all the Asian drivers for making a U in the middle of the block. Haha More stores are also popping up. Good way to get the residence and visitors amused and entertained. I haven't seen mammoth, limousine twin size baby strollers yet, but I may have been visiting during non family days. So here's the gist, if you're looking for a huge dim sum house, wait in line, this could be the city for you. Hong Kong lounge sure has its competition. Last time I was there, it was for a wedding. Incidentally, I've been with my Sweetheart for 10 years this year, celebrating our anniversary. I might just consider proposing. Pros: - Great location near highways and San Francisco - Bart station - Close to Burlingame for restaurants / downtown - Good schools - El Camino and Tanforan Cons: - No police force. Sheriffs from SM try to cover, but burglaries and car break-ins are rampant. No residential patrols - Traffic cameras at Millbrae and El Camino. Lame - Trash service personnel and policies unfriendly - City services old-school (hard to register for online bill pay, alarm permit, etc.) If you want to be near SF and highways (and aren't attached to your valuables), this may be the place for you. read more

Millbrae is a capitalist machine with terrible bureaucracy. The plethora of overpriced Asian restaurants provides no diversity in cuisine. Keep in mind that I enjoy eating Asian food. One major issue is the red light camera ticketing system at the BART/101 intersections. The city is greedy for easy revenue from drivers making common rolling stop mistakes. Do not spend money at the In and Out area if you don't want a $500 red light camera ticket in your mail. read more

Millbrae is one of the finest cities money can buy and a great example of rampant capitalism at its best. Best meaning you can walk down the street and no one will bother you, no one will pee on you or take a poop on the street. Also good is that if you're a fan of Asian cuisine there's much to choose from as from the other reviews, the annual Arts & Wine Festival draws great affluent crowds, and despite the lower temperatures over the years it still gets warm in the summer and autumn. Just be careful at the large intersection of Millbrae Ave at the Bart Station if you're driving. There are no less than 16 red light/automatic license plate cameras in that intersection. Yes, that's 16 cameras at one intersection, enough to make that certain country overseas blush. Similarly on El Camino up the street. One wrong move and it's $497 or more on your credit card. It's a great revenue generator. Be careful if you're walking too, as many drivers here including the anything goes UberLyft ones could care less about others. read more

Millbrae is basically known as "the last stop on bart" to most people. I've lived here for about 12 years or so and its definitely changed a lot. It's become much more industrial now with massive standard apartment complexes filling up El Camino Real. It's known for having good Chinese food, but honestly none of it is really that amazing. If you want good chinese food, drive down 12 miles to SF. Millbrae used to be a lot warmer when I first moved there, but for the past 5-7 years its been pretty cool. Usually always sunny but around 60-70s. It's a pretty convenient location because you're 20 mins to SF, 20 mins to silicon valley, 5 mins from the SF airport, right at a huge hub between Caltrain and BART, close to bridges. You can get to anywhere easily from millbrae. Which is why it's probably gotten a lot more congested in the past few years. read more

Moved here from Florida. Love this place! People are so friendly, beautiful views, nice places to eat, close to everything - even San Francisco. Close to Bart so we can park the car for $1.00 (free on weekends) and go right into downtown San Francisco. Have to take a flight - 5 minutes from SFO. Easy access to 280, so quick trip to many shopping areas, San Jose, San Francisco. Our new home and we love it here! read more

I live one town South of Millbrae. So which neighbors do I like more, the Hillsborough snobs or the Millbrae people? Definitely Millbrae. They seem more hardworking, more tolerant, and more easy going. Burlingame might have a more charming downtown, with more expensive dining. But Millbrae might be #1 in the Peninsula for Asian food. Tons to choose from. Lots of cheap options. Just like in neighboring Hillsborough and Burlingame, schools here are very good. The houses tend to be a bit older with smaller lot sizes in Millbrae. And in the hills, the weather is slightly worse than in Burlingame (ya, 1 mile can make a difference.) Very good town to live in. read more

To start with I don't live here just go here for work. It's a quite city with lot of Asian food places to eat. City has all the usual go to places like safeway, trader joes, living spaces, Starbucks, wingstop and many other. I have noticed the crowd here usually like to go to neighbouring cities for hangout as they have more options like San Mateo and Burlingame. I usually like to walk around my office and it's a nice area with lot of beautiful big houses. I am not really sure about the living expenses here but sure feels like a expensive city to live in. read more

A lot of people don't give the town of Millbrae enough recognition. Most people just think it's the last Bart stop or that place off the freeway with In-N-Out. I see it a little differently. Millbrae is quiet, small, nice, and intelligent. It has the best public High School on the Peninsula being an Alumni. I did live here when I was a kid for a few years and had a lot of fun. Most people find it boring but fun is what you make it anyway and Millbrae can be real fun. The people in Millbrae are also really cool and chill. Being mainly from Burlingame, as much as I love it, the people definitely win in Millbrae. I would have no problem raising a family here because of it's safety and warmth. And also the Airport being a five minute drive and that infamous last Bart stop makes everything a little too convenient. read more

Lived here for many years, I love Millbrae for its convenient location, family orientation, good schools, diversity, restaurants/shopping, and weather (most of the time). Really easy to get to SF both by car and public transport. You have both the Bart and a major Caltrain station (with bullet trains to 4th/King). Really ideal for techies who work in SOMA (Caltrain ride is like 15-18 mins on bullet) or even Palo Alto (also less than 20 mins). You can also drive to many jobs in Silicon Valley. Close to both 101 and 280. It's a family friendly place with great schools. All the elementary schools are in the upper 800s or lower 900s in terms of API scores, and Mills is the best high school in San Mateo county. Parents are very involved in the schools. I say Millbrae is diverse, although it feels like it's about 40% Asian, 40% Caucasian, and 20% Hispanic. I hear a lot of different languages when I take my daughter to the playground, probably a reflection of tech and biotech workers in the area. Weather wise, Millbrae is well below the fog belt so very sunny. Very mild, weather is a lot like SOMA, maybe a bit windier. Seems like it rarely breaks 72 in the summer. The seasonal winds start in early May and seems like it lasts through August. Winds typically pick up in the afternoon and continue through evening. You feel the winds more on the north end of town. You can drive just 2-3 miles south of here to downtown Burlingame and get a lot less wind. Depending on where you live, you will probably get some airplane noise. It;s loudest east of El Camino. I live near the San Bruno border, but west of El Camino, in an older house (i.e. less insulation) and I do notice the airplanes somwehat, but you quickly get used to it. Where I live the level of noise is like, I would say, 20% of the overhead airplane noise at the Tanforan mall. Would love to see more development downtown as well. Our downtown isn't bad, although definitely not as large or dense as Burlingame or San Mateo. Excited about the new Safeway opening in a couple of weeks. read more

I truly wish I could rate Millbrae higher. But anyone who was brought up here and saw the horrible changes made by one rotating disfunctional council after the other will understand my view. My wife and I have just rented our home and moved away because Millbrae is no longer a town that welcomes everyone. Unless you are Asian (which I am not prejudice) which is nearly 90% of Millbrae, you will not fit in. There is no longer any diversity. From among maybe 40 restaurants, on 2-3 are non Asian. I feel the city has chased us out because they failed to manage a balance of diversity. We found ourselves leaving the city for everything we do because Millbrae no longer offers to all. A good portion of the population are unfriendly and neighbors don't even acknowledge one another anymore. To add to this, the current city council has screwed up every aspect of its infrastructure. Example. Water bill $250-300. Garbage from SSF scavenger$90plus for a small 45 gallon can. This is two people in a 1400sft home. We moved an hour away to a town five times Millbrae's size. 2500 sft home with pool. Water bill average with sewer $71. 95 gallon garbage can $21. There now about to add a 2-3 hundred more apartments to a infrastructure that's in bad shape let alone we don't even have a police department. This city is a mess. Believe me, we didn't want to leave the town we spent our whole lives in. But we found ourselves disgusted by what Millbrae has turned into. What was once the rose of the peninsula is now the arm pit of the peninsula. read more

I grew up in Millbrae, and it's amazing to see how it has changed, mostly for the better. The school district (Millbrae School District, a little obvious) is one of the best around the Bay Area, which has 4 elementary and 1 middle school, as well as the high school, Mills. I particularly remember the middle school, Taylor. The views are breathtaking, especially at night. The best place to see them is around Millbrae Avenue, as you can see the airport from there. It's a very safe neighborhood, ideal for raising children. The people are very kind, much different from Burlingame, whom I, for the most part, assiciate with being a little on the snobby side. The airport is close, providing there isn't too much traffic (but hey! It's an airport!), and there is the occasional airplane noise or airplane/helicopter flying over a school (the kids love it) to SFO. Basically, Millbrae has all you really need, with a Walgreens, Safeway, Starbucks, Office Depot, Pete's, Mr. Pickles, Dean's Produce, Baskin Robbins, a few sushi places, fro-yo, Jamba Juice, gym, Kohl's, (an infamous) Bart Station, In-N-out, and much more. Did I mention Millbrae holds a plethera of Chinese restaurants? I love the Millbrae Art and Wine festival, which is held around Labor Day (or something like that). I see it as everyone getting together and having fun at a festival. All in all, a very nice little neighborhood, convenient, and so nice at night. read more

I grew up in Millbrae, and I can honestly say the town has gone downhill. Millbrae use to be a really nice town with good weather and a fair amount of family friendly entertainment/restaurants. But gone are the days where Millbrae had a couple of bowling alley's and awesome little restaurants(except Millbrae pancake house). Gone are the days of walking outside in march with shorts. Now it mainly stays in the 60s with it peaking to low 70's in the summer. Also gotten much windier and some of the fog from up north seeks in every now and then. The people aren't as nice as they use to be(but that's probably just everywhere) and it's lost a lot of it's diversity. The town is very Asian dominated, with mainly Asian restaurants and business. And now with Bart it has a fair amount of homeless people from the city. It's still a relatively safe place with a good school system, just lost a lot of it's appeal. read more

I lived in Millbrae in the 50s. I went to Taylor School (it was then a grammar school, now it's a middle school), Chadbourne and St. Dunstan's. Millbrae used to be a lovely, quaint little town with neighborhood stores, grocery stores. There was Purity Market, Golden Brick, Bennett's Drug Store and ladies clothing stores, etc. When I was 8 my family and I moved back to San Francisco. I visited Millbrae recently and was disappointed at all the changes. What used to be a small inviting town has turned into a commercial mess. It's sad to see what has become of this once beautiful town. On the plus side I had a chance to visit my old home on Via Canon off Hillcrest and my grandparents' home on Laurel Ave. The old residential sections are still beautiful and well kept. Unfortunately, because of the negative changes in the town I wouldn't live there for anything. read more

I love Millbrae or Chinatown south hahahahaha! being that it has so many Chinese outside of San Francisco. You can find Chinese food galore mostly from Canton which I love, but restaurants serving other regional Chinese cooking. Of course, Millbrae also has a lot of Hispanics and Caucasians. So, you can find plenty of Mexican and American restaurants, happening bars, and grocery stores and shops catering to everyone. Many home stores such as Hoot Judkins and Kelly Moore abound, plus service stations, auto repair shops, and Daland Nissan. The city has plenty of good, clean parks and wonderful views from the hills and nice looking homes everywhere. I love the Millbrae Art & Wine Festival which allows you to partake in all the wonderful food, beer, drinks, arts, and crafts not to mention musical acts that make it what it was. Definitely a mixed class city complete with a lot of diversity. Just the way I like it.! read more
