    Rollin by Soldier Field
    Rho T.

This review arrives a year later, but better late then never. There were only 3 people on this Segway Tour. And one of the 3 was our tour guide. Dang, there goes the fun of bonding w/a group of strangers. Lucky for the tour guide my friend and I were loud enough to represent a group of people. But the real luck came to us, because our tour guide, Nate, was OFF THE HOOK hilarity. We started by watching a Segway safety video, then put on some nifty rain ponchos they provided since it was a bit drizzly out. We then went outside to learn how to use the darn things. He had to test us to make sure we wouldn't fall on our a55 while on it, at least not on his watch. It took a few minutes to learn how to maneuver and control the Segway, but we were off and rollin in no time. We segwayed, if you will, to the Married w/Chirren Fountain (Buckingham Fountain), Millenium Park and "The Bean", John G. Shedd Aquarium, Adler Planetarium, and even more awesomer, (yes I did) we wove in and around Soldier Field. We even stopped at a Chicago Style Hot Dog stand halfway thru the tour to stretch out and get a bite to eat. What I loved the most was Chicago's architecture and public art surrounding the city. Nate was always a helping hand and took a lot of pics of us in front of memorable spots. Aside from learning a bunch about the City of Chicago while on a Segway, we also sang our way through it (the Never-Ending Story, to be exact), acted like we were filming a music video, semi-battled other Segway tours we'd see by mean-mugging them (even if there were only 3 of us), high-fived people on the street, reminisced with retro talk (we all fell in the same age group), laughed so hard in the rain, and took pride that we probably made Nate's tour seem more like we were just hangin out and he wasn't workin at all. (To Nate's Boss: He was TOTALLY working.) If you're teeter-tottering between which Segway Company to choose, don't even think twice about it. You'll have a great time w/City Segway, and you'll get to see all the spots you'd want a postcard of in just a few hours. Nate, if you're reading this- we had the BEST time on our rainy day adventure w/you. It's people like you that make those cool, funny memories possible. Hope to visit Chicago again and will definitely send more people your way thru recommendation :)

Very fun way to know the.city. Tami our tour guide was very energetic and passionate about all the sites we visit. The Segway is very easy to operate and a different way to tour the city. Definitely included as a must in future trips .

Matt was our tour guide and he did an excellent job at keeping us entertained. It was actually only me and my dad in the tour so I thought it was going to be a little awkward with the tour guide, but I can definitely say that I've never been so happy to be wrong. The segways are really fun to ride...very similar to a hoverboard. I recommend this to anyone who is visiting Chicago because you get to learn things you never knew.

    An amazing time!

Essentially I personally base it on the likelihood of a return visit and I try to be stingy with 5 star reviews since they should be "special" in my eyes. Price/Value also play a role obviously but there are $ and $$$$ littered across my grading scale. 5 stars - "I'll go out of my way" (approx 6 % of my reviews) 4 stars- "If I was in the area I'd go here and would recommend", (approx 38% of my reviews) 3 stars "Maybe if was nearby", (approx 37% of my reviews) 2 stars -"Would likely not return, Only if you want to go", (approx 16% of my reviews) 1 star -"No thanks, even if I was hungry", (approx. 3 % of my reviews)

Me and my partner scheduled a 90-minute architecture tour for 06/24/2025 at 8:30PM (Total $90 for two tickets). We arrived early and while waiting, we received an email at 7:56PM saying there was an issue with their boat and they had to cancel the tour. We went down to the ticketing office and spoke with the employee. He explained there was an issue with their boat and it was impossible to refund our tickets at his ticketing office. He advised me that we could call the main office number and ask for a refund and then shrugged saying he wasn't sure if they would be able to. The employee stated he could reschedule us to 8:45PM (a firework tour - not what we wanted) or 9:00PM for the architecture tour. I advised him we would be fine with shifting our plans to 9:00PM. He printed me and my partner our tickets and we stepped aside to wait for an hour. We looked at the tickets and noticed that the 9:00PM tour was printed as only 45-minutes long, not the 90-minutes originally purchased. I went back up to the ticketing office and inquired about the discrepancy and asked for a refund on the difference, as the 45-minute tour was only $28 per ticket (Total $56 for two tickets). The employee again said he couldn't refund us for the difference. At this point I was upset because literally, what do you mean you can't refund the difference? After me being persistent (and a different employee also saying no refunds), they finally admitted they actually COULD refund me there, and then issued me a refund / receipt saying my card would be credited for the original amount in 2 - 5 days. I left completely confused by the interaction. How are YOU going to cancel on me, and then say "Oh no refunds" *shrug*. Umm you didn't provide the service I purchased... I would urge you to use literally any other architecture tour group.

My wife did this tour a couple years ago and highly recommended it, but I wasn't especially interested because I had also gone to school here and figured I knew enough about Hyde Park already. However, she insisted that it would be worth our while and so I agreed to climb on the bus. And it was the absolutely right decision, because the tour was excellent. In fact, it wasn't just a tour of Hyde Park. It included the surrounding neighborhoods of Washington Park, Kenwood, Jackson Park, and Woodlawn. Since this was a UChicago sponsored event much of the information related to the University's investment and involvement in the area. Our tour guide and founder of Chicago Detours, Amanda, is herself a graduate of UChicago and thus she had some additional insight into the relationship with the community. Though the 75-minute tour felt a little slow-going at times, there was much to learn about the vibrant but sometimes troubled history of the area. Amanda has tremendous knowledge and the excursion was both fascinating and entertaining. I can imagine that Chicago Detours would have equally interesting tours of other neighborhoods in this diverse city.
