Yikes! I came in search of a bow as a last minute accessory before family photos. While I didn't find any suitable hair bows, I did find a lot of attitude! Not only did the employee absolutely gush over the person in front of me, she was downright rude to my family member and I. I've been in many times before and spent quite a bit of money here before. I guess because I only spent $10 I didn't deserve any respect?! I was shocked at the attitude of the employee. Whenever I have a kid I will be sure to shop here. This place is so unique and adorable. I walked in and squeeled with adoration of all the cute clothes and accessories! Do they seriously have these in my size? Because they look like little man and women clothes. What's great about this shop though is that they sell items from local artists. I've stumbled through this store a few times during my walks in the Delmar Loop, and I enjoyed these stumbles immensely - even though I had no use for their services. Therefore when my husband's uncle and aunt had their first child this month, I was overjoyed at having a reason to go shopping at City Sprouts! Silly, I know, but true. You see, this is an adventure of a store that caters to the silly side of adults. Yes, the products are for children, but this is not the same old boring, too-sugary-sweet store for all things kids. No. This is a fun escape into whimsy and tongue-firmly-planted-in-cheek fun that everyone will love. Case in point, the clothes: t shirts with bikers and hoodies with attached animal mittens - need I say more? The store is decorated so that the merchandise is on display in a fun and active way. We came here last week to do some shopping for my toddler. The pros: Clean space, parking spaces right out front, we'll-lit, and cute/interesting inventory. The sales person greeted us right away, told us about a sale, left us alone to shop, but was available to help us when we wanted to try on a few pairs of shoes. We were treated courteously with no wait to check out. Saw some interesting/educational toys and a cute selection of shoes. The cons: the shop is a little small. We were able to look at everything that had in about eight minutes. I also agree with others that the prices are way high. We bought a pair of vans toddler shoes (on sale), a stuffed animal, a set of flash cards, and a pair of toddler sunglasses and somehow spent over 90 dollars! Ouch. My daughter (2 years) was at a bit of an age gap in the store - lots of toys for 18 months and below, and lots of toys for 3 and up. I've seen that several people have complained about their return policy; I did notice their sign by the register detailing their return policy. In any event, I do recommend this cute little store, especially if you're able to drop some cash without breaking into a cold sweat! We had a good experience and will be back. read more

Buyer BEWARE! While this shop has the best children's clothes in St. Louis, their return policy is FOR STORE CREDIT ONLY. They cover themselves with a small sign at checkout. This IMHO is ridiculous given we're dealing with children and we may be guessing at sizes. My granddaughter lives out of town. I purchased clothes that ended up not fitting. I went with my "little man" this past weekend and watched him as he inspected every single toy in the store one at a time. A tough decision lied ahead of him as he narrowed his selection down to either the classical painted wooden cars or the dinosaur finger puppets. While he nervously came to grips with picking just one I paroozed the amazing selection of quality children's books. I am a great lover of children's books and the selection here was one of the very best I have seen in the Lou. What a great kids boutique! I received a gift from here when I had a baby shower earlier this year, and it was brought back onto my radar when I was researching what local options I had for kids/baby gifts. I like to try to shop local when at all possible, plus I was looking for some more unique gifts than you can find at a big box chain. I walked in and was immediately greeted and offered assistance. I let the salesperson know what I was looking for and a price range. She showed me several options, then let me browse. While I initially came in looking at spending less than $30 on something for one person, I ended up spending over $100 and buying half a dozen gifts for 4 different, lucky recipients (including my own kid). There are tons of gifts here that are fun, educational and stimulating, plus a large amount of clothes and toys. Bonus: They will gift wrap (gift bag with tissue paper/ribbon). I love my little guy and one child is all I can handle right now, but sometimes, City Sprouts makes me wish I had a daughter. Such cute stuff! Of course, City Sprouts also makes me wish I was independently wealthy, 'cause apparently, cuteness comes at a price. Good thing my son is already a doll. This place is super cool. Most baby stores are full of the same old same old. This place has really interesting and unique clothes, toys, decor, and everything else someone would need or want. To be honest some of the diaper bags were so cute I would carry it as a purse. My boyfriend has a niece who visited over Christmas. She is the cutest thing! And this store is SO perfect for her! They sell so many things that keep her interested including little wind-up toys (an inch worm that inches, a frog that does backflips, and a scurrying giraffe) and really interesting blocks! I found tegu blocks (magnetic, gender neutral colored, various shaped, wooden blocks), simple basic blocks with foreign languages (CHINESE! spanish, dutch, etc), and lots of plushies. They had these cool stuffed backpack animal things that unzipped for decapitation! I was really amused. The niece got really excited by their books and I ended up reading one to her. Too cute! I'm the kind of girl who will make a great aunt. I don't have any siblings, so I'm talking about the aunt all my with-child friends pawn off so they can have date nights. That's fine by me. I will be the cool aunt who makes them crepes and homemade raspberry jam, paints their toenails and takes them to the City Museum. And when I buy them stuff, I'll get them unique and very cool kiddie paraphernalia from City Sprouts. One of my best friends just had a baby girl so I thought I'd pop in and see what sort of fun things they might have. The problem here is that's all they have - fun things. Way cool things. Things I would like to buy for myself! Jennifer B. was right when she said whimsy abounds. I felt like a kid in a candy store, looking around at all the bright colors and funky things like books called "Mother Knows Breast." And some sort of onesie that said "Milk on the Rocks." It is more avant garde baby stuff, and really, that's such a great idea. You could just hang out here for hours. And people do. A little girl was on the floor coloring. Yes, it is a bit pricey and babies seem to grow faster than weeds...so often times people don't see the point of shopping here!! Let me break it down into some finer points to help win you over: -First and foremost...UNIQUE...you will find things here that you will find no where else. Great outfits for one of kind baby pictures, Christmas outfits, Easter outfits, etc. -Safety first!!! All of the toys and items that a child MIGHT be able to put in their mouth will be totally fine. They have the highest precautions I have ever seen...I do not know all the correct terms, but their plastics, jewelry, toys, even their baby nail polish is all eco-friendly, green and natural! No toxins in your baby FTW! -They do have registry!! You don't need to just register at Babies R Us...they have all you need and more! Plus then other people can buy it for you!! -Completely independent...the more you support local businesses the better prices local business can offer!! -I have never met a friendlier staff...as well as knowledgeable! Basically I am not even a mother and I love this place. I buy all my friends super cute baby gifts from here and they all tell me how great they are...AND since everything is such high quality they have all told me they save the stuff for baby #2 or pass them along to freinds and family members...how awesome! read more

Had a bad experience shopping last week at CS. While out with our 10 week old, my wife wife decided to walk the loop and browse some of the stores. After stopping for Starbuck's, we decided to head into CS. As soon as we entered CS, we were greeted by a sales rep who asked us to please place our coffee on the counter while we shopped as someone recently spilled a drink in the store. Seemed kinda rude to blame me for something someone else did so we decided to leave. While the store looked fun all of the items could be bought cheaper online. While I like supporting local businesses, I felt like this local business must not have needed my business. Too many options to overpay for kids toys to go back to CS. read more

Very cute high quality kids stuff. Stokke highchairs, Monte gliders, Tea clothing, adorable wooden toys . . . it's all there. Staff is very helpful, if they didn't know they answer they grabbed someone else (the owner, I assume?). Also, they had an area to change his diaper which was fantastic. My friends bought some items at City Sprouts this weekend and went on to shop around the Loop afterward. We found a baby gift that we liked even better at another store, so we decided to return some of our CS purchases. We had purchased the items only about 10 minutes prior, so we thought it would be ok. The employees there informed us that returns were not allowed, and we could either get store credit or an exchange. I think that policy is just fine, but we were simply unaware of it. When we told them that, they informed us that our receipts stated "No Returns". Unfortunately, once you have a receipt, you've already made a purchase. I think I would've just appreciated some more obvious signage notifying us of this. Maybe it was up somewhere and I just didn't see it. This store has a lot of awesome handmade items, but I think next time I will go to a craft fair or Etsy, or just make something myself. But I love local businesses and can appreciate what they're doing. read more

I went in to buy a shower gift. I had flown in and had time constraints. They had no infant to 6 mo except 3 ugly onesies for boys. The cute stuff was 'on sale'. A tshirt and shorts were $50 on Saale and NO Exchanges or Returns on sale items. No excuse for such poor customer service. Overpriced, poorly stocked and poor customer service. I love this one stop shop for adorable baby and children's clothing, toys, accessories, gadgets and more. While it is a little more pricey then most places, it's worth it because they really are unique items. I have not been able to find as cute of clothing anywhere else! The items that they have that are the same as places like buy buy baby etc are priced exactly the same, no up charge simply because it's a boutique. But I go for the clothing mainly. Let me tell you, if you have a little stud muffin or have a little fashionista this is the place to snag some amazing items. It's more pricey then your run of the mill baby shop but if you like nice things and want your children to have a unique style, it's the place to go! My favorite spot for clothes (I wish they came in my size... and some brands do). Molly the store owner is always friendly, relatable and knows her customer... she just makes you feel special. Anytime my daughter wears a city sprouts piece we get so many compliments as they are not your usual kids items. The store is in my honest opinion magical... well curated, beautiful, well made clothes and toys, items you can't just find anywhere (a lot of the designers are smaller boutique designers as well). Terrible return policy and therefore I will no longer sing the praises of the store. I have purchased a few items from City Sprouts and have been pleased. My most recent purchase was a pair of shoes for my two year old daughter. At this point, it is easier to shop without her. Unfortunately, the shoes were too big. When I went to exchange them 2 days later (with receipt in-hand), they did not have the size I needed. Store credit was the only option available. No offer was made to order the shoe. The store offered to call if another shipment arrived. I was able to find the shoe's online with free shipping in the size needed. I will not be shopping here any longer. read more

I recently purchased a stroller at City Sprouts. At the time of the purchase, I felt that while the staff was extremely helpful, but they really pushed this stroller over others. When I decided to buy it, they did not inform me of their return policy on "large items." When I realized that I was not strong enough to carry my five month old and the stroller to my car, I called to ask if I could return it and they said only for a 25% re-stocking fee on my $600 purchase. Despite pleading with the manager as well as the owner, they still refused to make an exception. They went so far as to blame me for the predicament which kind of offended me. So, be careful when purchasing "large items." I am a huge patron of small businesses, but their customer service really disappointed me. Having read through was other people have written about the shop, I will agree and disagree with what has been said. City Sprouts is full of unique, adorable stuff that fits any budget. They have a wonderful variety of clothes, toys, books, accessories, etc. in every price range, with a super friendly staff who can show you what you need (in every price range). They also have awesome baby gear ranging from car seats to cribs to highchairs that are not only modern and chic, but also safe and affordable. Their prices are comparable to any online store and in shopping at City Sprouts you are supporting local business and helping the local economy. As a new mom, I am drawn to City Sprouts for my shopping because everything is so unique, but it is also well made and will last. It is quality stuff that will last through to the next baby, or as a hand-me-down for friends. I would much rather buy something from City Sprouts that I know will last, as opposed to something from some superstore that is cheaply made and will fall apart.
