We had a long chat with Linda from Jovie about this, and I honestly thought we were on the same page. We trusted them to find us a nanny who would be with us long term. Here's what happened. Our nanny, who was fantastic and really clicked with our kids, ended up leaving for another job Jovie showed her only after being with us for 11 weeks. Once we found out we spoke with our nanny and she said she loved our family, in fact she told us it was a difficult decision to make and she would love to come back if we needed her for date night,etc. This new position Jovie showed her had a schedule that better fit her needs. What's unprofessional is that Jovie didn't give us a heads up until the day before she was set to leave, though they knew about it four days earlier. That hit us hard because it was unexpected, and it put us in a bind trying to figure out what to do next. Two replacements were offered. One with limited experience, her qualifications showed she had only 1 day of infant training. The other replacement we weren't shown a resume because she had not completed orientation. We were not interested in these two options. We were very clear we wanted long term care and ultimately this internal transfer our nanny made hurt our children's wellbeing. And seeing our 4-year-old so upset and confused about why his nanny just disappeared has been the hardest part. Our family trusted Jovie and they let us down and most importantly let our children down. I'm not one to complain, but I feel I have to be straight with other parents out there. Based on what we went through, if you're looking for dependable, long-term childcare, you might want to think twice about Jovie. It's a tough lesson we learned about the difference between what a company promises and what they actually deliver. Shame on Jovie and Linda for putting our kids and family through this emotional situation.

Limos as my instructor, and she set the standard for what a great instructor should be: punctual, respectful, approachable, knowledgeable, and able to create a comfortable learning environment where students feel encouraged to ask questions. The classes were always efficient, engaging, and respectful of the fact that many attendees are experienced healthcare professionals. Unfortunately, my recent experience at the Foster location with Ms. Eun Goldstein was the complete opposite and, without question, the worst ACLS/CPR class I have attended in my entire nursing career. At the beginning of class, she confidently stated that she was "the best ACLS instructor you will ever have." Such a statement naturally sets very high expectations. However, while she may be knowledgeable about the course material, knowledge alone does not translate into being an effective educator. A great instructor teaches, guides, encourages, and builds confidence. Unfortunately, the teaching style I experienced was rude, intimidating, and condescending. I have 12 years of experience as an ER nurse and open-heart ICU nurse, and I worked as an in-house registry nurse in the Rush Oak Park Emergency Department while also working full-time in AMITA Health BH. Despite this diverse clinical background, I was publicly belittled when she made comments implying that because I work in psychiatric nursing, I "do not know anything." She laughed in front of the class, which was humiliating, unprofessional, and completely inappropriate. During mock codes, students were frequently called out or criticized in a manner that felt more humiliating than educational. On one occasion, I answered a question correctly according to ACLS guidelines, but was criticized for giving a "bookish" answer because it was not the exact response she wanted in a real-life scenario. I also witnessed other students being spoken to in a manner I found unacceptable. A Loyola student who struggled to answer a question was referred to as "low class," and a new graduate nurse was told they had a "poor education" because they did not understand her question. Those comments have no place in a professional educational environment. Communication was also a significant challenge. Many students had difficulty understanding her explanations throughout the class, yet asking questions did not feel welcomed. At the beginning of the course, she specifically instructed the class not to ask her questions. A student sitting in the front row was publicly reprimanded for looking into their bag while she was speaking and was told, "All eyes in front of me. What are you doing?" ACLS and CPR classes are meant to strengthen clinical skills, critical thinking, confidence, and teamwork during high-stress emergencies. Students attending these courses include experienced nurses, new graduates, and healthcare professionals from different specialties. Every student deserves to be treated with patience, dignity, and respect. Paying $150 for a class where students feel intimidated, embarrassed, and afraid to participate is extremely disappointing. For anyone seeking a professional, respectful, and engaging ACLS experience, I strongly recommend the Peterson location with Ms. Gloria Limos. She demonstrates what an exceptional instructor should be--knowledgeable, approachable, and committed to helping students succeed. I sincerely hope the Foster location addresses these concerns, because clinical expertise alone does not make someone a great educator. Professionalism, humility, communication, and respect for students are equally important. My advice to future students: choose your instructor carefully.

I know these certification courses can drag on forever - watching videos, role playing, etc., but he makes it so fun by integrating stories and little acronyms/rhymes to make concepts stick. Also, he's a paramedic so he has tons of personal experience and really knows his stuff. Overall, solid people, solid place. If you want to be certified in CPR, ACLS, etc., definitely do it at CET with Jim & I promise it will be worthwhile!!

Here are some things to note if…read moreyoure planning on taking an exam here too: the good :) - the proctors in the morning were super kind. another student and I were freaking out because the door would not open but we knocked on the window and someone came to let us in. MAKE SURE YOU READ THE BOTTOM OF YOUR CONFIRMATION EMAIL FOR INSTRUCTIONS ON ENTERING THE BUILDING. dont be like me, it was a very stressful way to start my morning - the facility is very clean. there was no construction nearby so it was nice and quiet. - I got dropped off for my exam because I was nervous about parking, but there is PLENTY. Parking is not right in front of the building though so make sure you plan ahead - the lady helping us sign in was very kind and calm. she was very patient as nervous students were having trouble with the extensive check in policy - the lockers are spacious! of course, limit what you bring to the testing center, but I brought a tote and lunch box -- both fit comfortably - the bathrooms were very close to the testing center so 10 minute breaks were plenty of time to go and come back - there is a water dispenser in the testing room by the lockers. you should ideally bring your own food/water, but don't freak out if you forget! - watches are not allowing in the testing room but FEAR NOT, there is a clock on the wall to make sure you keep track of your break times the bad :( - there was a ticking noise in the ceiling during my exam that would come and go // it was pretty distracting without any noise-cancelling equipment - the earplugs provided by the testing center are foam cylinders that are not very comfortable. might want to ask if you can bring your own that are more tapered for comfort - noise-cancelling headphones are provided by the exam but they were very tight on my head and gave me ear pain - THE COMPUTERS ARE SO WIDE. All the letters are so wide and you can see the pixels of every word and image on the screen. This took some time getting used to in the beginning of the exam so beware! lil fun fact: during one of the breaks, one of the proctors was telling me that there are no 13's in the room. no 13 desk, no 13 locker, no 13 waiting card. superstitious or not, it is a nice touch

PROS: 1) Staff at the Buffalo Grove location were very kind…read moreand helpful, which made an inherently stressful day much easier. I was so pleasantly surprised, especially having read mixed Yelp reviews of Pearson test center staff at various locations. Seriously, give those folks at the Buffalo Grove testing center a raise for customer relations (though a couple of procedural improvements should be implemented, as noted below). 2) Site is easy to get to and has plenty of free parking. So much easier than having to take public transit into downtown Chicago or deal with city traffic and city parking. 3) Building and test center were very clean and comfortable. 4) I passed my test, so hurray for that. CONS: 1) I had to ask before staff told me that I could get my test results same day. Then when I asked about my score after the test, the guy monitoring the room said results were supposed to have displayed on screen. Only after I told him that they hadn't did he offer to look up my score and tell me that (*surprise*) he could even give me a hard copy printout of my results. If I hadn't inquired I don't think test center staff were going to volunteer this, and I would've walked out without knowing it was available. Big procedural oversight. For tests where scores and/or hard copies of results are available immediately, all examinees should be told up front that this will be provided. To be clear, I think the staff were well-intentioned and that this was an inadvertent oversight, but something this important should be standard operating procedure. 2) Beware when taking notes: They give you a plastic sheet to take notes w/a special marker. You can have extra sheets, but they don't automatically tell you that you'll be forced to give up your first sheet if you ask for a second one. If I hadn't asked for a second sheet up front, the guy monitoring the room wouldn't have warned me of this policy and I wouldn't have been able to plan accordingly. That would have been awful, if I'd run out of space and had to choose between giving up a whole page of notes or not being able to take any additional notes. Again, I think the test proctor meant well, he just didn't realize that this was a potentially important thing to tell people. 3) Computer display was AWFUL. Monitor was very wide, and the test displayed in very small text across the full width of the monitor so I had to squint and physically turn my head side to side to read each question. So much eye strain, I got a terrible headache part way through which made it much harder to concentrate. Staff at the test center told me that not all exams display that way, and suggested I complain to the company that makes the test. I could, but I think Pearson should really take care of that. It's their job to provide a reasonable testing environment, and for a $700 testing fee, one would think they could (and should) ensure an easily readable computer display.
