Civic park is a fantastic outdoor community park that hosts a winter ice skating rink, a gazebo, and different community events throughout the year. The library takes up one segment and another section boasts community rooms that are used for bags sales and stamp expos. There's even a separate dog park area once you cross the bridge next to the parking lot that links up to the pedestrian bridge and walking trail. All in all it's a nice sized community space and a great little area downtown. read more

A Park in the downtown area is so cool! there's isn't much to do here, just grass and a children's play area. occasionally there a festival where the public is invited. in the winter in the not too distant past, an ice rink was available. unknown if it's still available. haven't been here for years. am sure my kids enjoyed it if they went.o read more

I'm used to bigger parks but this was okay for a picnic. The small trail is concrete but there are too many bikes for my liking. My dog is small and gets scared easily of bikes so we normally do off road trails that don't allow bikes with larger picnic areas. The grass area is nice but there usually are dogs off leash play fetch. I feel like its only large enough for 2 dogs at a time. The park is also split up by the creek and parking lots so it's small patches within the park. That being said it was okay for our picnic today. All the dogs were well behaved off leash. All the owners were responsible and watching their dogs. Also watch out for the sprinklers if you do picnic on the grass! There are bathrooms near the library parking lot. I had to find it since I didn't see a map! read more

Nice park on the north-east edge of Downtown Walnut Creek across the street from City Hall. It is a small park that is divided into two sections. The first section is a grass area, gazebo, and children's playground in front of the Walnut Creek Library. The second section is across the bridge near the entrance of the parking lot with a much bigger grass space. This is where dog-owners typically bring their dogs to run and play. I've seen people play soccer and ultimate frisbee here too. If you continue walking to the back of this field it connects with the Iron Horse Trail! The main parking lot is pretty small and often gets crowded in the evenings after school and work. If you can't find a spot, you can continue going straight passed the children's playground down the thin road and there are spots all the way in the back. Worst case scenario you can pay for metered parking in front of the park. The City of Walnut Creek has events at this park throughout the year. There is a free Halloween festival for kids and also a big ice rink during holiday season. read more

Always fun here! First star - Parents are friendly, very social park. Second star- park is clean and I haven't seen any shady characters or drug use. Clean public restrooms. Third star- My kids love this park because of the train and sand box. Added benefits- library close by, and check out the community center for fun activities! Large grass area, perfect for a picnic. Scenic creek makes it a fun place to take a walk. I have to knock two stars off due to the small parking lot- sometimes we cannot find parking. Civic Park is another reason why I just love living in Walnut Creek. It's a beautiful gateway in to the downtown area, featuring a gazebo, playground, a rose garden, benches and plenty of lawn space to stretch out and enjoy our typically gorgeous weather. There is a small parking lot adjacent to Civic Park, which on weekends, can tend to fill up quickly. During the week there are plenty of spots and I believe it's a 3 hour limit. It's very near to our beautiful library, which is convenient to visit, then bring your books over to the park to enjoy, once checked out. I've seen community events held in the park as well-everything from Yoga to Tai Chi to small groups using the gazebo as a meeting spot. There are community buildings as well-although I've never been inside any of them. From what I understand there are art classes held there, as well as some craft shows and other small events. There are walking paths which cut through Civic Park and make a nice addition to the Creek Walk or a short stroll around the area. Another perk of living in Walnut Creek! read more

We stopped by one evening with allllll the kiddo's for an evening play session. It was a hot, hot summer evening and the cool evening Walnut Creek air was a pleasure for us. They have a few little play structures for the kids to play on. My kids are of varying ages and climbing capabilities. I mostly followed my littlest around while she explored and the bigger ones ran around like crazy of structure to structure causing all kinds of havoc. There was quite a few other kids here as well. It was a truly busy night. I really liked it. It was so comfortable to just let the kids run without a worry at all. We didnt get to swing at all because those seemed to be the hot park ticket for other families and kids. We also had a small little picnic in the grassy area. It was very nice. Theres a perfect amount of trees for shade. Walnut Creek is a truly family friendly little town with a great little park to enjoy on a cool summer's eve. read more

Gayle and I were married at the Civic Park Gazebo on 4/17/2010, starting at 1 PM. We were surrounded by family and a few close friends. The Officiant was one of Gayle's best friends from work and we were also witnessed (and apparently filmed) by one of Walnut Creek's homeless regulars. Back in March 2005, I met Gayle for the first time in the Lobby of Walnut Creek City Hall as her Match.com Bachelor #2. And on our wedding day, I stood at the same place and proudly anticipated those same elevator doors opening again. And as they did, Gayle looked stunning in here wedding dress, as she was being escorted by her darling 4 year-old granddaughter (the Wedding Girl). Jen K. sent me a "Best Wishes" note a few days before and mentioned that "funnily enough, it is the things that went 'wrong' that I almost remember with the most fondness". How true. Our story was the 2 ladies who wandered into City Hall just before the elevator opened, and asked me how to contact the police. Apparently, my initial advice of using the nearby red phone wasn't good enough, as they insisted that I take a more active role. The conversation continued even after Gayle came off the elevator, and only ended after my bride led them again to the red phone, and her sister more forcefully explained that there was a wedding going on. The 3 of us then walked outside, through the Veteran's Memorial Plaza, across the street (via the crosswalk), and over to Civic Park, where all were standing and watching us approach. It was a touching ceremony and I must say that both the bride and groom were radiant. The double ring ceremony included our own vows and the playing of 2 songs that meant the most to us during this celebration: Simple by K.D. Lang and "Maybe I'm Amazed" by Paul McCartney. After the ceremony, Gayle, her sister, and her best friend from college honored me with a dancing serenade of "What I Like About You". We also signed the paperwork, took photos and just hung out a bit to savor this moment. read more

This park was seriously full of kids and younguns-- mommies, nannies, Daddies, AU pairs... Wow. I was pretty surprised just how well utilized this park is. Walnut Creek is monied in general, and I only assumed my buddies and their baby just fell in with the crowd. As well all got tan and moved about the playground, myself included! This park has these mini-climbing rocks that my kids couldn't get enough of. Around Christmas though, parking in the lot's a job bc the WC ice-skating rink is right there, and even though the signs clearly say "Parking Lot Not for Ice Skaters"... yeah, well, nobody's actually policing that shit. Nice park on the edge of downtown Walnut Creek. It always seems like a nice place to have a picnic given the amount of trees and shade. There's plenty of free parking, a small gazebo, and a small playground. There's also a few random art structures, like the giant hand. You can also walk to Walnut Creek library from Civic Park. In the heart of downtown Walnut Creek sits Civic Park - a creek runs along the side of the park, green lawns all through it, and there are so many events held in and around it! I don't think of Civic Park first when trying to find a spot for a picnic or BBQ, and I don't have kids so I'm not very interested in their play area (but it does look nice) - when I think of Civic Park, I think of pretty trees, an annual ice skating rink, and the racing events that take place in Walnut Creek, starting and finishing at the park. Special community events take place here, as well as private events, both often have the pretty gazebo in the background. There is a small private parking lot (not useful on race days), but there are so many streets and lots nearby that cars can overflow into these spaces, especially on busy weekends. Today's Run Walnut Creek 5K departed from and returned to Civic Park. The muddy grass from the recent rains made a fast take-off pretty difficult. At the end of the race there were several large booths set up of local businesses - hundreds of runners had room to spread out, relax, and check out the booths. There is lots of space here and it'd be a great place for a party, celebration, or just a meet-up with your friends. read more

Civic Park, the official park of downtown Walnut Creek. It has quite a few neat things: Lots of lawn area. Fun playground. Small barbecue area. Tennis courts. Ballfield across the creek. And the neatest: a gazebo for the occasional concert. Overall, looks right at home in this affluent city. But wait, there's more! Because City Hall is across the street, there are other civic-like features of this park. Art studio, community center. Temporary ice rink in the winter. And a huge library; if you haven't been in Walnut Creek since 2002, you will be pleasantly surprised to see that the humble one-story structure has been replaced by an imposing two-story monument to knowledge. Civic Park is not quite the town's central gathering place, though, unlike Concord's Todos Santos Plaza. Three reasons: location, location, and location. Parking is about the right size, but sometimes gets too full, has a free 3-hour limit. Which is necessary, because there's not enough parking downtown, and Walnut Creek wants the lot to be used for the park, not for office workers staying here all day. As a result, planning a birthday party or barbecue is iffy here, and it's better to have your event at one of WC's neighborhood parks. read more

Great Park! The playground has good equipment, climbing rocks as well. I like that there is sand throughout the playground, it makes it fun for my infant as well as my 5 year old. A very lovely park. I walked around here as the kids ice skated (Walnut Creek on Ice - a great winter activity). One side is your typical park and the other more open/nature walk type. All dog friendly. Great for picnicking or just a park day with the kids. Anyhow, the park side is super clean, lots of grass and proper benches/tables. A great play area for the kids, small and big. Cute gazebo for events. Once you cross over the creek, the other side is gorgeous too. Plenty of little paths, concrete and dirt. Also random information boards about wildlife and land features. Last Sunday i attended the yearly crystal fair. The enviroment was extremely positive. Just walking in, I could feel the positive energy. Each booth was neatly set up with amazing crystals and vendors. I have now attended for the last two years. Did i mention the people! Each person i spoke to was extremely informative, and willing to take their time answering any questions i had. I am so excited this Event is open to the public. Ideal for the walking toddler and older set, this is probably my favorite park in the greater Bay Area. Highlights: - Astro turf! I love me some Astro turf as it's easy on the knees and arms and other body parts when my toddler face plants into it. - Two play structures! Gosh, I wish the toddler-sized play structure was a more common occurrence at playgrounds around the Bay Area. I like being able to give my son space to explore and do his thing on his own but when the platforms are six feet up and he can't be trusted not to walk off and break his neck? Yeah, no, I gotta get up there and supervise. It's a nice change of pace to be able to walk alongside him and let him have a little more independence. Two play structures also usually means larger, more rowdy, kids stay on the playground that is their size and it allows the little ones a little more safety. - Water and sand table! This is my 19 month old's FAVORITE part of this park and, honestly, the bane of my existence but whatever lol. Things can get pretty dramatic at the sand and water station amongst the little ones- especially if folks don't feel like sharing the water or any little random toys- but! It's nice to have for the hot summer days and the sensory play. Slap your little one's name on every sand toy they own and haul them down for an afternoon of water play! Beyond that, the park is huge- not just the playgrounds etc but there's a huge grassy area, a bunch of swings (both for babies and bigger kids), a train for imaginative play, big rocks for climbing on, and a library on the other end where you can escape the heat and have a little quiet time before heading home. This really is a beautiful park with lots of shaded areas and more than enough space for tons of kids to run around and enjoy themselves. I love coming here every chance I get. read more

Good park in the downtown area. Lots of activities to do on the play structures that are dedicated for the tiny tots and elementary aged kids. The sandbox has plenty of room for all to play in and the grassy area with trees is a treasure trove full of Pokemon!! : ) You can also walk across the bridge accessed by the parking lot to explore some more! Picnic tables allow you to set down your things and prep your snacks. The public library is a short walk down the path, in case the kiddlets get tired and need a story time break -- or a beverage in the library cafe. Civic Park and Library have given me a new perspective on Walnut Creek. I am a part-time resident here and have been longing to find a place to entertain and exhaust my 2 year old without spending a fortune to do so...I found it here! The park is great because, it has multiple play areas that are spread out nicely so, even when the park is crowded, you don't feel claustrophobic. There is also great variety for the kids to choose from. There is even a fun sand/water table play area for those warm Summer days...love it and so does my little one! Make sure to bring your sand castle building tools. There are large, grassy areas to run and the gazebo is darling. It really does have that old town feel. However, I have encountered some homeless activity there. No one has ever bothered us you just may want to keep an eye out. The library is beautiful! There is a special area just for young children and my little one absolutely loves it there! Perfect for a quiet afternoon. We will visit both places time and again. read more

Now that I'm a parent of an infant, I pretty much grade parks based on necessity and convenience for my family's enjoyment. Civic Park encompasses all that we seek in a park. Even though it may be small in acreage, the play area and picnic area provide abundant opportunities for both kids and adults to be occupied. I love how the playground has the baby swings that securely fastens the child inside. I've seen some with just a chain restraining the baby inside. The park itself is nicely shaded, a major coup for those looking to stay away from the hot sun. We visited on a weekday afternoon, so there was plenty of parking. I'm not sure about the parking situation on the weekends. Even though I noticed tables, I didn't see designated BBQ grills, which is fine by me. read more

Civic Park is a really nice, clean outdoor area that is located near downtown Walnut Creek. It is conveniently located near several stores and shops and while there are an abundant number of teens and families (with young kids) roaming around the park, it stays fairly quiet and relaxing. The park is also located next to a modern library and features a few unique art sculptures. Sometimes the grass can be wet so I highly recommend bringing a blanket! Great park. read more
