My team and I had the pleasure of creating a beautiful custom backdrop for our client's special celebration, and the venue provided a wonderful setting to bring the design to life. Disappointing. Walnut Creek Recreation broke the CA "Honest…read morePricing Law" (SB478). Walnut Creek Rec sends out a catalogue every year for the camps they offer. There is pricing in these catalogues- just like the catalogues you receive for clothes or Costco or whatever you get- they list a price, the store needs to honor it. We get the catalogue, we have a budget, the kids are excited to pick their camps within that budget. I register the kids for camps. Usually there's no issue. But this year the price on the website for one of the camps was more than what was advertised. Walnut Creek Rec thinks it's OK to increase the price and write in the camp description that "the price is different in the catalogue". I registered my kids because I thought the "Community" Center would honor their original pricing, but no. The option I was told was, "We can unenroll your child if you don't like the new price." Even after I told them this was "bait and switch", this was still their only option offered. This is an audacious and patronizing response and doesn't hold anyone accountable. The difference is $16 or $17 dollars, so it's not like they messed up 1 number when typing out the catalogue. An employee from Walnut Creek Recreation signed off on the printing of this catalogue with specific prices. The lady I spoke with and her staff member claimed this was a printing error. This was not a printing error- at no point did the printer mess up. This is their error and someone needs to hold them accountable. The lady who called me confused "accountability" with "acknowledgment". If you're reading this- look it up. You claimed you were being "accountable" when the words "the price changed" were included in the camp description on the website. "Acknowledgment" (with no corrective action) means you know you messed up, you admit it, and you do nothing about it- like this situation. You shouldn't be in a job that has a direct impact on other people because you do not value the community you work for. "Accountability" means you understand you messed up and you do what you can to make the situation better. The person who does this knows and values the impact they have on their community.. they also value their community. This review is for the staff and the lack of respect they have for the law and their community, and the lack of understanding how their actions can negatively impact their community.

It honestly breaks my heart to have to give this place a negative review. I had such high hopes in…read morethe beginning. As someone who is newly out after years of religious trauma, they were who I turned to first. I had wanted to volunteer there. I received no response even though I reached out on several occasions. When I tried to sign up for women of the rainbow, it was questioned why someone my age would need their help. I was told they were not a dating service. I wish I never would have gone there. It's hard knowing that this was my first attempt at belonging and I was so horribly rejected. I really hate to say this, but I would say queer women 25 to 49 should steer clear of this place. Especially if you are overweight and nuerodivergent. There has to be a safe place for us. I'm still looking for my place, but it's for sure not here.

So, six years ago, I stopped by this place and they rejected me, saying there's nothing available…read morenow for me. I'm not interested in forcing myself on anyone, so I just left. Six years later (2025), I went by to post a 3x5 card and I was told that I needed to register, which meant I would get emails about events they are holding. Seemed reasonable I guess, and I was hoping the atmosphere had improved, so I registered. I made the mistake of attending two of their senior womens meetings. These meetings are supposed to be open to anyone in the community. While the first was okay, but the second was horrible. At the second one, a new attendee, a lesbian, who seemed in a bad mood, started on a tirade against transgender people. Five minutes of bile and hate later, I was hoping someone would object, but to my amazement the other two lesbians in the group there encouraged her and supported her. I should have objected but I felt the hatred expressed was too overwhelming and I decided there just was no advantage to objecting and I just left. I did not believe anything I said would be received well as I there was three of them and one of me, and they were all in agreement As far as I am concerned this place is a bastion of hate and bigotry and I have no interest being anywhere near them.
