The not so faint aroma of chlorine, the screaming children and all those floating bandaids... Well, i love swimming. Pretty much anywhere. So when I learned there was a pool in Rupert I figured it was the best antidote to days of meetings and potential stress. For $5.50 (plus 50c for locker) i only had to share the one lane available with one person (there is adult swim only after 6pm but before there are lots of lessons, screaming kids) and although i found the temperature to be a bit hot, it really did put me into the zone. So if you're jonesing for a few laps, this definitely does the job. Just don't look too hard at the bottom of the pool.

The path is flat and well-maintained with beautiful harbor views, boats, and surrounding mountains. There are slight inclines and declines in a few sections with steep grade signs, but overall it's very manageable. Peaceful, quiet, and serene with lots of fresh air. Seal Cove itself is more of a working waterfront, but the shoreline walk along the way is the real highlight.

During a recent Alaskan cruise, my wife & I ventured to the Sunken Gardens on our Prince Rupert…read moreport day. It is truly "sunken" at it's located below the court house. But there are several entrances to it, both from the court house area as well from a couple other streets. Essentially, this is a two-tiered garden, with different plants and trees on both levels. The park isn't very big, but still provides a quiet respite from the town (and probably your cruise ship). On the upper level, there is a gazebo you can sit inside, a long with the various benches around the park.

The Pacific Mariners Memorial is very close to the cruise port. It has street parking nearby and…read morethe memorial is a covered structure to house a fishing vessel that commemorates the fallen fishermen. There is a plaque with some historic information. The boat seems to be in very good condition for how old it is and that is probably because there is a chain link fence surrounding the memorial.

Anyways, it's a small park, but it's a good and clean one and there's a small but cute play ground for little kiddos. The view is amazing though, being right next to the ocean and it was a beautiful day when we visited, walked around, breathed in fresh Canadian air and just chilled. There were also some cool flags representing many nations of seafarers who have been in Prince Rupert, BC, and have given their lives. All in all, a nice park dedicated to those who have lost their lives at sea, a sad reality, but a meaningful way to remember them.

We had a very knowledgeable tour guide. The only part we were disappointed in is when it started to rain we went in to the café and wanted some chowder. One Star for cafe. They call it smoked salmon chowder a small cup was $13. It was filled with potatoes and vegetables and a small chunk of salmon. When I say small, it was a flake. I would not order it again.

This Cannery is related to the one in Richmond BC in Steveston. You need about 45 mins to walk…read morearound the entire Cannery. There is a free guided tour with admission. Admission is $12 for adult. There isn't much to see. I didn't do the guided tour because I came at the wrong timing. There is a cafe here that closes at 3:30pm. Other than that, you have to bring your own snacks. People are very friendly here. The Cannery is located on Port Edward Island. There are free parking just outside. First come first serve. If you are in the area, you might as come by and check it out.

A really old run down gym. The equipment really needs some update. I feel like they have all seen…read morebetter days. The building needs some renovations as well. The checker floors really bring me back to the 80's along with the wooden panels and the interesting aged staircase and the funky mirrors. On the bright side, this gym is fully equipped. First floor is the weights, second floor is for kickboxing and lastly the top floor is cardio and yoga. When I walked in there was a really weird old stinky smell. It was quite unpleasant. I was inside for about 15 mins and gave up exercising here. It is not for me. On the plus side this gym operates 24/7. You are given a key card that will allow you access to the gym after hours. I like that concept because you could work out according to your own schedule. I don't think I will be back. The smell really deters me from coming back.

This is a nice, easy flat walking path along the coast to Seal Harbor, a boat, helicopter and float…read moreplan dock area. The main part of the trail is through lush forest with interesting views of the bay and distant hills, some artful rusty cargo ships. There are some more industrial areas that you walk though, so one less star, but we did see eagles and a huge jelly fish. There are kayak rentals at the end and a restaurant on the back bay.

To walk from one end to the other it takes about 20 mins or less. The view is nice. The entrance is at Rushbrook Floats, and the exit is at Seal cove. Approximate length is 1.2 km. There are parking at Rushbrook Floats and it cost about $1 per hour. It is free parking if you park outside Rushbrook Floats and it is about 5 mins away from the entrance of Rushbrook Trail.

The lovely K was cold calling in Rupert and one of her calls recommended that we try the newly…read morerenamed eatery at the Prince Rupert Golf Club, now called Moe's Tavern. It's not much to look at from the outside, or the inside to be honest. It's an older Pan-abode building that looks like it could use an update. The place was empty other than the two of us and our server who was busy wrapping cutlery in napkins. The menu is rather wide ranging, and looks like most of the food comes in frozen. K was told there was a new chef by the lady that recommended we try it, so we gave it a go. I had the club sandwich which actually had the third piece of bread which I haven't seen in some time. It was pretty good, but again the dreaded seasoned chicken breast which is inherently salty. The sandwich itself was pretty good and the fries weren't terrible either. K had the beef dip which was pretty tasty, but the beef was not broken down, and the fat removed. She bit through it and the entire beef portion came out in one chunk. The local beer on tap the Wheelhouse blond ale was quite good, as was the service, which is to be expected given we were the only patrons. We wouldn't return, but the golf club has just opened recently with a new chef, so there are bound to be hiccup.
