The port was built in the 2nd century & some original features still remain. The Roman Dock, the 16th century Michelangelo Fort and the nearby National Archaeological Museum displaying ancient bronze & ceramic artifacts. North east of the port or the Terme Taurine, The ruins of a Roman thermal bath complex. This is a very busy port, it's well organized and they offer complimentary shuttle bus service. Four cruise ships with about 10,000 passengers came in and out of the port today along with many freighters. It's about a :15 walk to the station & an hour rail to Walk the main Rome stop. There are no Ubers, some taxi stands @ machines to purchase train tickets.

Risotto Al fungi (porcini) and Spaghetti carbonara at cafe Morra.

Having been to Rome many times, we decided to stay in Civitavecchia port and explore. A low key "real Italian" experience. Had risotto porcini and spaghetti carbonara for lunch at Caffe Morra... delicious. We walked around and did some shopping. Farmers market was charming, several department-like stores offered good prices on clothing, and good sales.

Since there was no Yelp page for the actual port, I'll use the Yelp page with the majority of reviews. We came here for a cruise. The city was small and everything was in walking distance from each other. There was a view of the waterfront and some photo opportunities. The train station was pretty close to the downtown part of this city. The place where the shuttle bus took us to the port terminal was maybe a 20-minute walk but it wasn't bad. It gave us the opportunity to walk through the city from a different route as we walked back to the train station.

This is a huge post with a lot of ships moving in and out every day. When we arrived by cruise ship we had to take a shuttle into town. Most people go to Rome which is what we did. We caught a train at the train station which was very nice.

Can you remember how to spell or pronounce Civitavecchia? I went on a cruise of the Mediterranean that started and ended at this port.

Small town that doesn't offer that much and as always the service in particular places still doesn't bother to learn good English

We arrived from Fiumicino via a private airport transfer. It's about a 50 minute ride depending on traffic. We were dropped off in front of the terminal in a very timely manner. I'm mentioning this because we saw others arrive a different way that were turned away because their ship was leaving out of a different terminal. Make sure you have a driver who knows this port well. The process from security to check-in was all very seamless. You'll go up an escalator to the passenger waiting area until it's your time to board. Disembarkation was just as smooth. You enter the terminal and find your luggage using the color tag system that is based on your flight time. Before we knew it, we were already in the parking lot. It was super easy finding our bus to the airport with the terminal personnel directing everyone. The timing was perfect. Not a single worry. It was a smooth experience from beginning to end.
