I have to say, Kell Hardware is the bomb. Man, what a step back in time, and I mean that in the…read morebest possible way. Old school SERVICE that is incredibly rare today. I'm working on a patio project and instead of wandering around a gigantic store in Ontario, I stopped at Kell's. I walked in and was immediately greeted. I explained what I'm doing and they personally walked me around the store, helped me gather up the exact right components, paint and proper fittings, cut the PVC at no charge, rung me up and had me out the door in less time than it would've taken me to drive to Ontario. Three people helped me while I was there -- THREE -- while simultaneously assisting other customers. It made me realize how much I miss dealing with real people who are knowledgeable and actually want to help. It just. Doesn't. Happen. But it happened at Kell's today. And it happens every time I've ever been there. Very thankful to have them right here in Lexington.

This is a typical old fashioned hardware which stocks everything from pin hooks to garbage cans and also repairs screens and glass windows on the side . The best thing about these mom and pop places is that the clerks all have an intimate knowledge of how their various products work , and how to best apply them to fit your individual needs . You may find things a bit cheaper in the hardware section of some big box store , but you are also on your own as how to use the item that you've bought ! For a real eye opener ..... take the time to visit your local mom and pop hardware store one Saturday afternoon ......I call the experience "hardware university" where you can learn the proper way to do things from an old pro , who knows his products And how to use them. Sherwin-Williams Paint Store

    Sherwin-Williams Paint Store

The Sherwin Williams saga - Two weeks ago I stopped at the Sherwin Williams store in Ontario. I…read morewas the only customer in the store for thirteen minutes. The lady said she would be with me right away three times. On the third time she told me she walked into the back room and was gone for at least a minute. I had enough and left the store. Within a couple of days I went to the SW store in Mount Vernon. I had with me the paint codes for the SW paint that I needed. The gentleman at the store said SW no longer made that color but he could get pretty close. I had him make me a gallon and paid approximately $60.00. When I got home I compared the color and it was not close at all. The following week I went back to the Ontario store with a piece of paper that I got from Callahan Doors that they said was a correct match to my doors. This was an actual paint on ordinary paper. It was a different person that waited on me this time and I ordered just a quart of paint and it cost me $38.00. I took it home and it was a perfect match. A couple of days later I happened to be in Mount Vernon again and I had taken the quart that was made for me in Ontario with the codes right on the can. A young gentleman said they could not match the color because the codes were for a quart, not a gallon. Now I am not a chemistry major but aren't there four quarts of paint in a gallon? I left the store at least a little angry and when I got to the car my very smart spouse said to me why don't you take the quart back in and have them open it and make a swatch on paper. Genus that she is it made perfect sense to me. I went back in and talked to a different gentleman who looked up what was needed without a paint swatch and said the store was without what was needed, and they wouldn't have it until next week. Off we go again. Another few days went by and my wife notice that they had a 30% off sale at SW for the next few days. I called the store and gave them my name and asked if they could mix me a gallon with the same color as the quart I had them do. The gentleman said yes they could and I asked him what the price would be. He stated it would be $78.00 and I also asked him if I would get the 30% discount and he said yes. I went to the store to pick up the paint and he said that the total would be $65.69. I replied that can't be right when you quoted me over the phone that the paint was $78.00 with a 30% discount off of that. He replied I am sorry but the paint was $98.00 and I gave you 30% off of that and then he gave me a $10.00 discount.

We gave a $100 tip which brought what we paid to $450.00. (I'm doing the math here since they obviously can't) We got an additional bill for $558.00. The $450 (agreed upon total) was paid directly to Mark once the cistern was buried. After a couple days of rain, the cistern failed. Our brand new home was flooded. We had to get a different company out to fix the issues. This is when we discovered Quinns never pulled a permit!! We now receive a bill every month with a new late charge for this mystery balance!! We're up to $636.98 as of 4/6/26. Scammers!!! Poor workmanship!! Do not trust this place to do ANYTHING for you! Oh, I forgot to add, they didn't show the 1st time they were scheduled to be here. No call, no text, nothing. Then they just showed up when they wanted. Our attorney will be dealing with this from here! Cost to redo the entire cistern ( with a permit Quinns failed to pull), a new pump, damage to the house from muddy water flooding in. Their bill will be way more than$636.98!

We called several other places looking for a trencher that dug 48" with absolutely no luck, finally called Quinn's and they had it! They showed us how to operate, asked about our project and offered their input which was beyond appreciated as we'd never ran plumbing before. The store is very well stocked with misc. parts, pieces and tools for all kinds of projects, the woman inside even said if you need something and not in stock they'll order it (as she did once for a customer looking for a deli slicer), that's good customer service! They really give all their attention to the customers in store which explains their poor customer service over the phones, and I'm okay with this. I HIGHLY recommend Quinn's!
