Nice, friendly, helpful people, all ages welcome and reasonably priced drinks as well. Utterly fantastic.

The stage is small and mere inches off the floor and open on two sides, so there is enough space to get a good view around it. The sound is pretty good as well. The name doesn't mean it is all fiddlers here - although I did see a cracking gig by Seth Lakeman here! - and I have seen lots of local bands here. Staff are friendly and the bouncers cheery and, because you wouldn't come here just for a drink, the clientele are all here for the music.

The entrance is tucked on the far side of the building on opposite side of the road to Windmill Hill City Farm. A little bit expensive for what it is. There are better venues, sadly not on the South side of the city though.

Most people who are at all familiar with Cardiff would recognise the armadillo/woodlouse outer shell of the Wales Millennium Centre, and the giant lettering gracing its sides. But, unfortunately, few people seem to have actually ventured inside. The space is modern and clean, without looking barren, as so easily might have happened. The theatre itself has excellent leg-room, comfortable seats and pretty much unrestricted views. I sometimes struggle with low volume when attending musicals, but the acoustics were excellent, and every word clear as a bell. As well as shows and events, there are also food outlets and guided tours available. There are also free performances most days on the Glanfa stage, which are certainly worth checking out.

Great venue, cheap bar, lovely staff, and super easy to get to as multi-storey car park next door is free parking. It's a hidden gem in Trowbridge, so I'm aware of it, I'm always checking upcoming events, and have already bought comedy tickets for Christmas presents, as I know its so easy to get to for my parents.

It is cheap to get in and they have a raffle each week. I think the acoustic night is a good way to showcase the talent in the area and to encourage people who wouldn't normally perform live to get up and have a go. The club has an open mic night every Thursday and every third Thursday they hold a showcase and buffet night where local performers or bands from further away play 50 minute sets.

The shows you get to see at the old vic are a far cry from the tacky unoriginal touring shows you get at the Hippodrome. Showcasing its own in house productions you find a lot more edgy and original theatre, so it's a must for all theatre lovers. On this occasion I took my one and half year old son to his first ever theatre production, Magic Elves. The show was in the small theatre downstairs and was perfect for small children and adults alike! He was engaged and mesmerised from the off and I hope this starts a similar love of theatre...

The gigs are held in the Anson Rooms and usually focus on up and coming bands, so you can catch some big names before they go massive if you know your stuff (I've seen Radiohead and the Fleet Foxes there in the past). This means a lot of the names on offer may also slightly mystify you! The venue itself has something of the village hall about it (it's basically a big room) and it's tricky to get to the bar and back during a busy gig. The booze isn't particularly cheap for an SU either.

Bristol lacks a really big gig venue, like Brixton Academy or the Millenium Stadium in Cardiff…read more Because of this we miss high profile acts, and having to go to Wales to see big bands is always an annoyance. The Anson Rooms (as the Student Union styles itself), however, does a good trade in mid-size acts. It belongs to Bristol Student Union, and you get plenty of Bristol students at concerts. It's a young crowd generally whenever I've been, so things like crowd surfing and having beer split on you are to be expected. There are two rooms, a big hall for larger acts, and then a fairly small one for those that don't attract much of a crowd. Check which room the act is on when you buy a ticket, as they make for very different evenings. When the bigger room is filled out you feel like you're at a proper gig, with crowd surges and other fun like that. If it's not too full though, the atmosphere in here isn't great. The smaller room can make do with a crowd of five and still feel exciting. Acoustic sets here are a treat. Keep an eye on the listings, and if you see something you like then pay a visit to Bristol SU the Anson Rooms.
