My birth plan did not go as planned (as they always say happens). Heather was there to help us through these obstacles every step of the way. She doesn't push you to make any decisions, she educates you and informs you and prepares you to make the decisions that fit you best. I had complications post delivery and she comforted my husband and made the phone calls and held my baby during this emotional time while I was in the OR. She was so much more help than we could have even dreamed of. She is the full package. She even took our newborn photos when my daughter was two weeks old and we turned it into our Christmas card. We also took Heather's classes to prep us for L&D. She made us feel comfortable about everything. She even braided my hair when I was in labor, so sweet! We made her work over time! Poor Heather. She was with us for hours and hours for two days straight. She was very responsive and willing to do whatever we asked her to do. She was even helping coordinate keeping my placenta and the logistics of that. I even texted her the other day to ask about recommendations for my baby and she answered right away. I've had other hospital births and a birth center birth. This time around, I set my heart on a homebirth. My body had other plans and I had to be induced. The way she was able to support me changed because the hospital staff was ever present and overly hands on given my complications. However, Courtney was there with me. I'm a somewhat reserved person who finds it hard to open up and feel safe with most people, but I felt completely comfortable with Mary. With Mary you get the best of both worlds. Not only is she highly skilled in what she does but she's also a woman of faith and offered me tons of biblical encouragement and insight that I badly needed. She is a midwife who believes in the bodies natural ability to heal, and to birth, but connects that with a wonderment and reverence for God. She is highly skilled in herbal medicine and was able to offer me many mixes to naturally and safely alleviate any concern/ discomfort I had during my pregnancy. My birth went faster than I expected but she was there in perfect time! Even during the most intense moments of labor, her touch and voice were so soothing. She took amazing care of us postpartum and was a listening ear for me when I had any concern about my baby and was quick to offer advice and natural remedies. I hired Raquel and Amanda as my doula team for a home birth. I had previously had a somewhat…read moretraumatic birth with my first and these ladies were great at helping me work through that with our prenatal appointments. They gave me so many tips and idea on how to avoid stalling out again. There were 2 at home prenatal visits, on-call support leading up to the birth, support during the birth, and a perinatal appointment after the birth. I ended up having an amazing home birth experience and Amanda provided so much support for me during the pushing stage. Having her there to hold my hands, guide me through breathing, and hold my hand afterwards for stitching was just what I needed. I would highly recommend Elevated Birth if you're interested in a doula for your birth. I've read that women who birth with a doula statistically transfer to hospitals less and also require less epidurals.
