Heather is an absolute god-send, and I wish every expecting woman could experience their labor and delivery with Heather at her side. No matter what type of birth you're preparing for, Heather is the full package and she will have you prepared and feeling at ease for when the time comes. My first birth took place in the hospital, and although I was planning for an all natural birth it didn't happen. My waters broke first but I wasn't progressing so after twenty- four hours I was induced and later finally opted for an epidural because I was rapidly becoming exhausted. After thirty six hours from start to finish, baby was born. During that time, baby's position wasn't checked, I bounced on a ball for a little bit, and the rest of the time I pretty much hung out not knowing what to do to get things moving and my midwife didn't really come around. Since I had a midwife, I thought she would have been more present and involved with my labor but unfortunately that wasn't the case. I felt stuck, alone, exhausted, and disappointed in myself that I didn't have the natural birth that I had hoped for. I'm certain that if I had Heather for that birth, I wouldn't have been as scared and traumatized by birth. Heather was recommend to me by three of my cousins. For my second birth, I decided to go to a birth center and hired Heather and I cannot get over how incredibly amazing this experience was. AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING. Heather came to the house when my husband called her, stayed with me at the birthing center, followed up with me afterward and paid me a home visit. Heather didn't take the place of my husband, but rather she supported him in supporting me and he loved that. Heather has this spirit about her that made me feel calm, safe, comforted, and capable. She held me, gently guided me into different positions, spoke softly to me, and always had this mother- like softness to her and she knew what I needed before I knew what I needed. There are almost no words to describe how grateful we are to have had Heather as our doula for the birth of our first child. Everyone should have a doula as a part of their birth experience, and if they can, it should be Heather! We began working with Heather several months before our delivery. From our very first introductory call, she was engaged, informative, and just so unbelievably helpful. Not only does she provide a series of online classes, but you also get to attend her in-person workshop and meet with her 1:1 prior to the big day. Without Heather, we would have had so many questions and unknowns leading up to labor and delivery... instead, she prepared us for just about everything (understanding contractions, labor positions, when to get to the hospital, etc.). Our little girl was stubborn and we ended up getting induced. Heather helped us to stick to our plan of having a baby without an epidural or heavy pain meds. She coached us through every step of the way and provided the stability and encouragement we needed to keep going. Not only was she so critically helpful to me (the mama), but she provided the calm, cool, collected game plan that also helped my husband. She is also just an amazing advocate who can help interpret medical jargon and help you make informed decisions according to your birth plan. To top it all off, she took absolutely beautiful birth photos and came to our house to check in after we were settled at home. All in all, we would have felt so lost and alone trying to make it through labor without Heather. At this point we are telling everyone who will listen... From the moment my husband and I met Heather, we knew we were in the best hands. Even before then, we knew she'd be wonderful, as she was the doula for my best friend and came strongly recommended! With it being my first birth, I had so many anxieties. She took the time to help us feel prepared, informed, and confident about what to expect. Her guidance and support allowed me to go into labor feeling ready. If you're on the fence- take the birth class!! So worth it. During labor, Heather's calming presence, steady reassurance, and keen understanding of the whole process allowed me to focus on what mattered most - a calm labor. She has an amazing ability to read the room and offer exactly what is needed. We are especially grateful for how seamlessly she worked alongside my midwife, Kristi-- it was teamwork to make the dream work! I cannot recommend Heather highly enough as a doula. During the birth of our first daughter, my wife experienced a difficult labor and unfortunately suffered a broken tailbone. Wanting a better experience for our second child's birth, we decided to work with Heather--and it was one of the best decisions we made. I have now had Heather as my doula twice. She is a great asset to your birth team and does all she can to help you have the birth you desire. She is well educated in the process of birth and keeps herself updated in new information. She has worked with many of the hospitals and birth centers in the area and is known within them. I took her birth classes twice and I like how she has part of them online now so you can view them on your schedule, and be able to go back and look at them if you need to. I found them very helpful and informative. I also enjoyed this time the bag of tools she lends out to help you prepare for birth. Heather is quick to assess a situation and what needs to be done and jumps right in to assist, which I really appreciated since my labor happened so quickly. She help me to stay calm but also had my midwives all set and ready when we arrived at the birth center so that my husband and I did not have to worry about that as we were quickly driving to the center. My husband and I both agree that hiring Heather as our birth doula was one of the best decisions we made for our pregnancy. We took all of the birth classes from St. Lukes and I practiced prenatal yoga but none of this training could compare with having Heather in the labor room guiding us along each step. She met with us ahead of the labor and helped us determine our birth preferences, including a few options that were never mentioned in our other various courses, so we felt very comfortable with the "plan". During labor Heather knew exactly what to do to keep me comfortable and my husband was even able to rest for a few hours without me even noticing! I'm very greatful that Heather was my doula. Her classes were extremely helpful in preparation for my birth experience. The support and encouragement I received during labor and delivery was exactly what I needed to have a successful(my ideal) experience. I decided to do her package that includes L&D photos which I absolutely love. I delivered at St. Luke's in Nampa with the Midwife team. My Midwife enjoyed working with Heather because she was very helpful, professional, and stayed within her parameter as a doula. I can't recommend Heather Norris enough as a birth doula! She was absolutely incredible and made such a positive impact on our birth experience.
