I am a bike trail enthusiast. Bike trails are asphalt ribbons of enthusiasm flowing across the…read morelandscape. They are adorable. Whether they are former railroads, circumvent a mountain range, or pass through the open spaces of an urban community; they celebrate the landscape. They give hikers, bicyclists, roller bladers, and sometimes equestrian riders enthusiasm. Being engineered for bicyclists, the hills are generally gentle, the curves soft, and the sight-lines far. The majority of bike trails are A.D.A accessible which give people with disabilities enthusiasm. In recent years the bike trail revolution has landed in the City of Henderson. The City has been on bike trail building binge. The Bike Trail revolution has transformed the City of Henderson into the City of Enthusiasm. The Lake Mead Parkway Trail is the newest addition to the City's bike trail system. It is a ribbon of asphalt travelling across the Lake Mead Parkway corridor from Boulder Highway northeast to a junction of the River Mountains Loop Trail in the open spaces bordering the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. It is a trail featuring two totally different segments. From Boulder Highway to Athen's Avenue (last stop light before Lake Las Vegas) it is a relatively flat trail passing through suburbia. Northeast of Athen's Avenue, it turns into a hilly, windy trail overlooking a desert bordered by the River Mountains and a distant Lake Las Vegas. This is a swath of open space where the Wetlands Park, River Mountains, and Lake Mead National Recreation Area merge into an enthusiastic vista. I am a bike trail enthusiast to the degree that last Sunday, I was determined to hike the Lake Mead Bike Trail from the Athen's Avenue CVS parking lot to Laker Plaza a few hundred feet east of Lake Las Vegas Parkway in 112 degrees heat. Enthusiasm conquered any doubt about hiking in triple digit temps. What I saw is a work in progress. Currently trail markers are nonexistent. There is a want of signage informing trail users that they are approaching the River Mountains Loop Trail and Wetlands Connector Trail. Construction has the trail temporary truncated at the tunnel that it will share with the Wetlands Connector Trail under Lake Mead Parkway. Guardrails are under construction. A trailhead by Goulda Street that will share with the Wetlands Connector Trail is being built. Makes more sense than CVS. Sheltered benches are up. Modern streetlamps adorn the trail. I have been told that they have a motion sensor that makes light brighter when people pass by. I was most impressed by the connectivity to other trails. In a way it is the bicycle trail equivalent to the spaghetti bowl. In the rural segment the River Mountains Loop Trail (RMLT) feeds into it from Equestrian Park & Boulder City. For a few hundred yards the trails overlap. Then there is a major split. To the left, the trail intersects a Wetlands Park/ Lake Las Vegas bound Wetlands Connector Trail through a tunnel. If you continue straight, it continues as the Lake Mead National Recreation Area bound RMLT.This connectivity creates hours of hiking & bicycling opportunities. I learned that in life enthusiasm overcomes negativity. It was enthusiasm that led me on an enjoyable adventure in 112 degree temperature. It is an adventure on a a new bike trail that I am enthusiastic to share on Yelp. The Daniel. S Yelp 100 Challenge. Review 85.

Looking at the map and the landscape, hiking trails has couple easy and medium level. And once you are on top of the hills, you will be able to see the Las Vegas city overview. Beautiful city line, definitely worth the hike. Bathroom is available and it is a clean park. One thing you should be aware of is cyclist with high speed around. They could go super fast. I love the bike trails and will be back again next time for a morning hike and/or cycling.

I grew up in Vegas and have been on this river a ton by boat, and I've also hiked to both Gold Strike and Arizona Hot Springs. Those hikes are super rewarding but honestly brutal. This experience was completely different in the best way. Being able to get out of the river and be steps away from hot springs was amazing, and the views from the water are hands down the best. We met the team bright and early at 5:30am for launch, and everything was super smooth. They shuttled us, got us fitted for life jackets, handled waivers, and gave a quick safety rundown. Launch timing is strict because of the park service, but they made it feel easy and not stressful at all. Definitely be on time, though, because due to this strict timing, they will leave without you. The kayaks were such a game-changer. They were longer touring kayaks with foot-controlled rudders, dry storage, and actual back support. Super comfortable for me and somehow also worked great for my 6'2" husband (he had a larger boat). Since it was just the two of us, our guide Holmes customized the whole day to our pace. He took us to hidden spots I had never seen before, even as a local, and helped us avoid crowds. We did some hiking, rock scrambling, used ropes at Boy Scout Canyon, and explored hot springs that you can only get to from the river. It felt adventurous but still very safe, and he gave great tips the whole time. He also knew so much about the area. History of the Hoover Dam, plants, wildlife, etc. I learned a ton - even as someone who felt familiar with the area. This is exactly why I'm glad we didn't just rent kayaks. Having a guide made it feel like a next-level experience. We got to relax more while he handled the route and found the best spots. We got lucky with perfect early April weather. No wind, super glassy water, and we could see fish deep in the water. The 12 miles honestly felt way easier than expected, especially with how well Holmes guided us through the current so we could just float and chill a lot of the time. They also packed a great lunch, snacks, and plenty of water. You really just need a sun shirt, hat, sunglasses, swimsuit, water shoes, and sunscreen. They take care of the rest. Even though we leaned a little more adventurous, I could totally see this being doable for beginners, too. You don't need to be super athletic to enjoy it. Pickup and cleanup were easy and seamless. They handled everything while I grabbed a snack and relaxed, which honestly made it feel even more special. This was such a cool experience, and I would 100% do it again. Already recommending it to friends, and I would definitely consider doing the overnight version next time.

They provided a large trailer with ample shelves and space to put are gear onto. A safety speech was also given. This company has special authorization to enter the Hoover Dam property and take people down to launch from the entrance of the Hoover Dam. They instructed you to move quickly as there was a time limit for getting everyone/everything Into the water and away from the area. The next day, they were prompt with their pick up and helped us load our gear back onto the trailer. I would definitely use this company again and recommend them to others.

It has a gradual incline which can be a pleasant challenge for some. During the hotter months it can be a bit of a punishing experience as there's no shade or trees, so just be aware. This trail is in proximity to a baseball field (fly balls should be considered if you intend to park your car at the trail head base) and a large park which is busy most times I've visited. The trail itself is not as busy, though, which is pleasant. Something else that is pleasant are the lovely panoramic views of Henderson and the Vegas Valley. This trail is for sure worth visiting.

I've hiked this trail a couple times before with my fam and it's been a long time since I've been back. The weather is finally cool enough for me to take walks outside again and I like that. With the record breaking heat that we had over the summer, it was just too hot to go for a walk outside. My favorite part about hiking these trails is that I get to enjoy the amazing views of the mountains, The Strip, and all other parts of the Las Vegas valley while I get my steps in. Dogs can tag along with you, but be aware that coyotes and rattlesnakes are very active along this trail. Also be sure to carry plenty of water and fully charged phone just in case. I hiked solo and didn't want to go way far out on the trail, so I just stayed where I could see all the views of the city. But I managed to reach my goal of 3.5 miles!
