As a humble intern, father to a seven-year-old daughter, and aspiring medical laboratory technician in 2015, I was summarily dismissed from my internship not with the dignity of a conversation, nor the courtesy of a written warning, but via a piece of paper slyly slipped into my hand, accompanied by an enigmatic directive to call a supervisor who, with all the empathy of a malfunctioning answering machine, told me, "Leave the hospital." In that moment, my professional aspirations, financial stability, and trust in academic institutions were crushed--flattened like a hot pan in the dish pit I toiled in for years to pay for it all. Let us briefly pull back the velvet curtain and examine the star of this spectacle: the "Snow White Comment." In an industry that prides itself on clinical objectivity and evidence-based judgment, how delightful it is to discover that my facetious remark--saying Snow White was my girlfriend--was apparently interpreted as a dire indicator of mental illness. The staff's response? Not a gentle word, not a query into my well-being, not the faintest attempt at clarification. Instead, they fashioned a narrative where sarcasm morphed into psychosis, and humor was entirely forbidden--a bold new standard, no doubt, for preparing students for the real world. Now, enter stage left: Keri William Richards, whose missive on my alleged "unprofessionalism" reads like the script of a melodrama. According to her, I was incorrigibly rogue, "not listening," "doing my own thing," and, most egregiously, "wasting my time and hours." This, despite not a single documented conversation, warning, or opportunity to improve--apparently, the sacred principle of feedback is reserved only for those faculty members whose professional conduct is not above reproach. Let us be exceedingly clear: I was denied the fundamental right to know, to respond, and to correct. The staff, while clutching their pearls at my supposed lack of professionalism, demonstrated an Olympic-level ability to avoid direct communication and procedural transparency. In the end, they achieved only one thing: violating my rights under the Ohioans with Disabilities Act of 1969, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of perceived psychological disability, especially without due process or accommodation. It's almost as if irony itself drew up their policies. The harm was not limited to my sense of justice. It was financial--thousands of dollars in student loans for non-transferable, academically sub-par credits, all because Clark State sold me a bill of goods about their transferability. It was emotional--my trust in educators forever eroded, my self-confidence battered, my dreams of becoming a licensed MLT lost. Most cruelly, it was personal: As a father, I wanted only to build a better life for my daughter, to show her that hard work and education opened doors. Instead, I was shown the back door--quietly, furtively, without so much as a whisper of honesty. Yet, the ultimate punchline is that I did not wither. While Clark State and Springfield Regional Medical Center clung to their misconceptions, I worked--scrubbing hot pans in restaurants, burning the midnight oil, fighting for every new opportunity. I completed my bachelor's and a master's degree, and I now serve as a dual diagnostic clinician, helping those with substance use and mental health challenges. Clearly, clinical incompetency is not a malady from which I suffer. And so I say: if these institutions wish to lecture on professionalism, perhaps first consult a mirror. It is no small hypocrisy to preach patience, empathy, and growth while practicing cowardice, dishonesty, and discrimination. My life was upended, my finances ruined, my family's happiness threatened--all because adults in charge failed to display the basic decency and honesty they so self-righteously demand from students. It may be that legally; my recourse has faded with time. But the wounds remain open. My daughter's future, my own faith in people, and a staggering debt--all hang in the balance, the tragic punchline of an academic joke that was never funny. Ironic, is it not, that I now demonstrate the very "clinical competency" they so assiduously denied me? That my practice upholds the ethical and professional standards sorely lacking in my former mentors? Perhaps they might one day attend a training on humor or basic human decency--or at the very least, learn not to conflate sarcasm with psychosis. Worst place to get your College Credit Courses/Dual Enrollment credits done. Especially online, the instructors do not give a flying fuck about you, your education nor your grades. The BlackBoard platform used is quite difficult to manage and deal with, and numerous people that I know have complained about it as well. Faculty and staff take forever to respond to urgent emails, and when you try to call, 9 out of 10 times nobody picks up. Please reconsider or look into other options if you're interested in talking college level courses here as a high schooler, do not make the same mistakes I did. read more

This school is literally the best kept secret in Ohio. Ive been to major universities and this is my 3rd degree now- this time at Clark State. Clark State is run better than any major institution I have ever attended. I'd give this school 10 stars if I could. Not kidding. read more

I went to Clark State for 2 semesters a couple years ago. One teacher ranted on that "internet waves travel 56.3 times the speed of light." At first I was perplexed, then I realized the guy was totally ignorant of the subject he was hired to teach. Turned out one of my other teachers had graduated from the program just the previous semester and was hired to teach a class she barely passed. I spent a couple thousand dollars and got very little in return. Save your money up and go to a good school. read more

Clark State was a nice college. The quality of the teachers is very mixed. It felt like high school at times. There was occasional bullying and such, but overall, the atmosphere was decent. The biggest complaint that I have now is that they really need to provide relevant courses. You can not graduate with a degree alone anymore. Clark State would not even hire someone who graduated with a degree from their own college without experience. All colleges should find a solution to this, even though it may not be completely their fault. read more

Well, it's cheap to get your gen eds out of the way. Kind of nice..... kind of felt like high school. Ok... really felt like a high school. Oh, and some of the ppl are a little questionable. I loved the CCP Program, but other than that... There are 3 Professors that liked out of all of the classes I took, other than that, the rest really intimidate me and my class mates. They do not seem like they want to be there. It was great to get my gen eds done, but I didn't like it. You think that in all the years the Professors have been there they would make better schedules, and to more class participating projects to help you learn. Is not that what school is for? To learn? Not just giving us barely enough remember-able information to call it a "lecture", Then expect to to spend 99% of your credit hours reading 5 stupid chapters a class! The best classes was when the professors gave us time to prepare for and exam, and give us a very ruff practice exam, because at least there were some things that we were going to drill into our heads. I cannot wait to be done there. Also, the cafeteria food is overpriced for the quality of food you were getting. All the books are now on the "Virtual Bookstore" So everything has to be shipped to the school. You can't wait so see if you will need to get the book after the first class, then go grab the book. You have to wait never less than 2 days to get it, even though you have an assignment due. The think that ticked me off the most this semester, was all of the online testing. I was not given ANY paper homework to take home. I always had to have access to Wi-Fi. It was frustrating because if I wanted to go somewhere I always had to ask if they had it. So if my computer was acting up, or upgrading, lots of time was wasted. When you are in college, you have a lot of precious time on your hands. With paper assignments, you can visualize better. It was so easy to miss an assignment because there are so many facets and buttons on Backboard. I am not saying there were not any goods things to say, but honestly, the more semesters that came, there more I "disliked" it. Always had a bad experience that interfered with my learning. I work hard and keep my grades up, but they should have encouraged more discouraged. read more

We need positive change in our society and you can't achieve that by treating your students so horribly. Yeah.... I am not real sure about this place and the only reason I am even giving 3 stars is because of the teachers So far the dept staff...fin aid, cashier's office, coffee shop, cafe next to the book store ( when it's open) have all been unpleasant to work with.. They kind of talk to you as you're a little kid, or an idiot ( even spoke to my husband who graduated at a 4.0 with each degree-last being his ph.d, just the same as they would speak to an undergraduate... They hold money from you (your student loans) and once you finally get a person to clearly comprehend what you're saying, they look at you like you made the mistake, including suggesting you didn't explain your previous borrower status clearly enough to them in the past... yeah...held mine and still holding after they dismissed my explanation that I have borrowed and paid in full, student loans in the past.. No apologies-nothing... Shootings, fights, and breaking into cars, is how some people fill their time in between classes... wow, I wonder if these people understand that a life of crime and confinement doesn't require going and earning a degree... the last time I checked, there wasn't a "worthless low-life punk" degree to earn... But when it comes to low-lifes, they don't care to waste "free money" that the government gives them for absolutely no reason other than to waste it I think I may go back to sinclair. read more

I like Clark state because the price is right the books are very expensive though. Comparing to Sinclair, Sinclair has too many DEV classes they have you to take before you get into your college classes oppose to Clark state. I only had to take two DEV classes and I was in my college classes the next semester. The teachers at Clark State care they want the students to strive for PERFECTION! I earned a 74% on a exercise in one of my classes and the teacher told me to redo the exercise I did I earned a 100% on that it shows that they care. read more

I graduated with 2 certificates recently. I took some courses online and some traditional classes. They were ok. It is very hard to reach someone besides front desk. If you need to speak to anyone else, forget it! Voicemails and emails go unanswered. I graduated and couldn't tell you who my academic advisor was, never talked to them. I did my 1st schedule during orientation and did all my other schedules online by myself. The Instructors were good with a couple of exceptions with the online instructors. I sent questions to a couple of online instructors and never got a response. read more

Nursing program is run by condescending, bullies. They go out of their way to TRY and make you fail. They threaten you, accuse you, and invent things to be nasty about and to you. If you are one of their "pets" you can miss for something small like you wanted to see a movie the day it came out. If your not.... something serious like a hospitalization or family member results in them dropping you a letter grade. I would strongly suggest EVERYONE look elsewhere to be educated, it's clear women have been getting away with this for a very long time and I don't see it changing any time soon. They don't have their program together and you can get a message saying you have to be a clinical site the next day as late as 10:15 pm and you have to be there at 7:00 am. Also a last minute that you have to make up clinical hours and work late because one of your days falls on Veterans Day or Black Friday (both days they had a full year to plan around) This has caused major daycare problems with many and cheated many others out of family plans students had made. All the while their pets are allowed to skip out for over 7 hours of clinical and NOT make any of them up. It is an absolute lack of professionalism and absolutely NO RESPECT for the ADULTS they are supposed to be educating. Appalling!!!! read more
