Classic Game Junkie where to begin! Heard about this store around early 2010 and I thought meh it sounds like some gametrader store. Boy, I was wrong! This store even as I post this review, has an AMAZING selection. Whether you're a more modern gamer of games for the PS3,360, Wii/WiiU, a retro gamer from systems such as the SNES,Atari 2600, and the Sega Genesis. This store will have you covered. With walls and shelves of loose and boxed video games reminiscent of video game stores such as the now defunct Funcoland, and rental stores such as Blockbuster and Hollywood Video. It's beyond rare to get a nostalgic feeling such as the one you'll get here. One thing that makes this store more unique is that they can do repairs for consoles. And I don't mean only Xbox red rings, and basic issues like that. But for any console that you own, they will make sure you walk out happy with a working system. As a game collector, I try to make sure my games are 100% clean and fail sale, but sometimes I run into an issue that even looking on a forum can't help me with. However thanks to this awesome store, I have everything working to the best quality. As far as prices go for video games sold here, they are very fair and usually the cheapest you would find anything on Ebay if not lower. They will make sure you'll get the best price possible for any game you wish to purchase ,even with retro game prices soaring. As a bonus they will make sure your game works before you leave the store very much like Funcoland used to do, which other game stores should enforce. Now some people may say that "the workers are creepy and stingy " or something along those lines. That is far from true. The people apart of this store have been nothing short of very caring and helpful to me, both in and out the store. Open up to them, and they shall open up back with open arms. Now they have a lot of consoles and what you have its to fix, so have patience when giving something to be repaired, also make sure you take very good care of your consoles. In conclusion Classic Game Junkie is the diamond in the rough in terms of gaming stores. Appealing to video game fans of the golden age of gaming to the current age. The People behind the counter at this store have at least some knowledge of what they're selling if they aren't they won't waste your time pretending they do unlike some other gaming stores out there. Classic game junkie is a family owned and run business. I remember when the shop first opened, man I was so happy because I lived right down the street and the place was cheap. The owner Frank is a pretty cool guy that wants you to have the best experience you can get and If he can he goes to the best of his ability to hook you up with whatever you may need. He will give you a good deal on a trade in and is pretty honest with you. He is one of the most friendly guys I know whenever I walk in he always greets me with a smile on his face and cracks a joke or two with me. He guarantees the cheapest price or a game. If you find that a game is cheaper somewhere else he will match their price. He will literally look it up on his ipad right in front of your eyes. Game junkie will also allow you to have a birthday party in the back of the store. They will set up a couple of game systems for you and your friends. They also run tournaments in the back, and for a small fee you can enter and try your luck and they are intense. The variety in the place is unbelievable. They have consoles of all kind like Xbox, PlayStation, Wii, 3DS, they even have older consoles like Atari 2600, NES, Sega Genesis, Dreamcast and more. They have vintage stuff you cant find anywhere else like Mario collector character packs, Game themed monopoly, and other stuff. If you are looking for a game and it's all scratched up they will put in in the resurfacing machine for free. The store is very appealing to the eyes outside and in. In the front window they have covers of game that are coming out soon, assorted lego game characters like Pac Man and the ghosts, Mario old and new, and sonic. Plus the big ass Mario statue on the left side. Its hard to miss. Inside they have game art lining the walls. They have a coin-op machine where for just 25 cents you can play any of the ten pages of game like, Pac Man and Donkey Kong. read more

I bought a Nintendo 64 here about 5 years ago and I ALWAYS go to CGJ first when looking to make any video game purchases. Ever since i first walked through the doors it really felt like a gamer's paradise. If you are looking for new games, they have it, if you are looking for old games, they have it. If you are looking for games that only you and 3 other people know exist, I would bet on them having it or finding it for you. Like another reviewer said this place does a lot of things right. Although the store can get crowded and you may have to wait a while for customer service, I always find something cool to look at while I am waiting. Recently a minor miscommunication led me to leave a complaint here but the way that it was handled more than made up for any inconvenience. Once it was brought to his attention the owner went out of his way to see that it was resolved. The owner (Frank Jr.) immediately responded and was beyond courteous and really went the extra mile in taking care of the situation, even though it was just a simple miscommunication, he really went above and beyond customer service in making things right. This store is his passion and I really respect the way they do business. I read a guy's post about how he didnt get an SNES controller and I can say with 100% certainty that had he just asked for Frank he would have walked away with what he wanted and been coming back every time he needed anything else. Excellent gaming and electronics store. Their selection is unparalleled (everything from the cult classics to the random old games you love and even the new ones), their staff is knowledgeable and friendly beyond compare, and their workmanship is stellar. We went today in search of an SNES and came out incredibly pleased. The staff ensured that the unit itself was clean and functioning properly, that the cords were intact and working, and that the controller was in top condition, as well. Each game we chose was cleaned and polished before purchase and the whole package (system, controller, and games) came with a warranty. The pricing of games is fair and competitive. Their stock is well-organized and proudly displayed. It's almost as much fun to look for games there as it is to play what you bring home. And if something you have at home breaks? They have that covered, too. Judging by the meticulous work on their trade-ins, their repair service is reliable and trustworthy. I even got the only understandable explanation of why old Nintendo systems turn yellow over time. TLDR; This place rocks. It's fun. It's fair. It's honest. The staff is awesome. The services are awesome. The stock is awesome. Even the music that plays on the overhead is awesome. This Place isn't just a store, it's an experience! Just by looking at the outside of the store you can tell that the owner poured his heart and soul into it. There's posters, Lego creations , retro music, games, consoles, arcade machines, wall decals, you name it and they got it! I was very surprised to find a place like this. Stocked with everything from pong to Playstation 3, this place is every nerd's dream. The staff does repairs, organizes tournaments, provides great customer service and much more . The owner and his family are willing to go that extra mile to make the customer happy . This is simply not a shop where you are in and out . You are always going to be browsing for awhile,playing an arcade game,or having random conversations with people in the store. Unbeatable prices better then Ebay or Gameflop, I cant believe the deals you get in this place. One thing that really amazed me was there was a family that came in , a dad and his 2 daughters. The girls ran over to the Gamecube section, then went over to where all the stuffed video game characters are at. The dad was looking at Nintendo and Sega games with a huge smile on his face . dont just blow me off because i gave them five stars... this place is largely underrated and what people are complaining about is typically irrational and to my knowledge untrue... what you will find at classic game junkie is just about every game and then some for just about every game system to date. They will clean any game they sell to you and they cover it with a moderately lengthy warranty. I remember my first time walking into the shop and nearly instantly being transformed into a 9 year older ogling over all the classic nostalgic goodies from my past. Now lets get to the other side of the store... CUSTOMER SERVICE! The service in this store is awesome Frank Sr. & Jr. make an awesome team i love their humor, and its partially the reason i stop in because honestly they crack me up, i was just in today in a matter of fact. If they can get you anything or help you in any way they always will. This is an honest to god mom & pop store, and its one of the few left, i'm sick of corporate game shops who don't look out for your best interests and wont go the extra mile, they might be cheaper in some ways than classic game junkie but hey... you always get what you pay for. If the question is whether or not you should go to/can trust CGJ, the answer is yes, absolutely. The staff is smart, sweet, and helpful. This is directed towards visitors who may have social anxiety and specifically, Frank Sr. Let's get one thing out of the way, the man is charming as all hell. I could listen to him talk for hours. The decades of history in this shop come to life with his presence. However, in my experience, the man is a ball-buster. His dry sense of humor is a joy once you kind of find his rhythm; maybe you'll even start riffing if you're so brave. But, for new customers (especially ones like myself who have social anxiety) his dry jabs can deliver a final blow that leaves you standing with your eyes wide unsure of how to proceed. If you don't know what you're necessarily looking for and he gives you a mildly hard time, remember that he's there to help you. Even if he's looking at you like your question was not only utterly stupid but *outright insulting,* there's a 90% chance that after a 3-second pause he'll break character and happily answer your question. You can even pretend you knew he was kidding the whole time and he'll pretend he believes you because he's a class act. I love this store. The first time I passed by it, I had no idea what to expect.... That was over two years ago. CGJ has guaranteed my business due to a combination of great prices, fun atmosphere, and awesome, friendly staff working there. The store itself is a certified museum of all things video games and is fun just to look around and have a nostalgia moment. When you're done dreaming of your childhood, all of the stuff is actually for sale too! The prices are incredibly reasonable and they often have awesome sales via their Facebook page. Francis (the owner) is one of the nicest guys I have met and is very helpful with finding either games or equipment that he may not have. For the average consumer or collector, you won't even have to worry about that as the stock is incredible! Missed that collectors or limited edition release? Odds are there is one there, new! I personally haven't had them repair a system, but I have bought one used. It plays wonderfully like it was new. I know that Francis repairs systems and does a good job because I constantly see people bringing them in and picking them up when I am in the store. I got a ps5 about 2 years ago. Due to some flaw in Sony's manufacturing, the HDMI port broke after about a year of use. I brought it into game junky, and their friendly staff diagnosed my machine right in front of me, gave me a quote in minutes, and set off to work on it. Less than a week later, they gave me a call, and I received my working play station back for less than the quoted amount. A year later, the same issues arose. I was 3 months out of the warrantee window for the work that they had done previously. I was devastated to Say the least. Frank and Colin seemed to be devastated on my behalf, and were able to discount the repair. Not only that, but they tested the machine in front of me, and tried to give me tips to avoid this happening again in the future! Game junky is a wonderful establishment! The fun atmosphere, and wonderful staff are what set it apart from big chain stores! It makes you feel as if you were transported back in time to your childhood, no matter how old you are, you will find something there that will make you jump up and down like a little kid again! read more

Walking into this store is just great- from the Mario Bros. themed door chime to the old school PacMan game console. The selection just can't be beat. There's tons of games, consoles, peripherals, etc... You might find more on eBay, but will it actually work once it gets to you? They tested our equipment and games prior to us leaving the store, so there's no mystery here. And honestly, if you did happen to buy some pos from eBay that was busted right outta the box, they could probably fix it- they can repair any system/peripheral you have. Prices are fair- not dirt cheap, not a ripoff either. They seem to be quite in line with what you would find on the web, but you save the shipping and there's no question about whether or not it will work. The staff are cool and helpful. I hate when you walk into a specialty store and the employees are all righteous and know-it-all. You won't find that bs here. Game Junkies is the best store I have ever been in honestly. I have taken so many people to see the store and they end up bringing more and more people. Personally I wish I opened a business like this because this guy is probably filthy rich with all the people coming in. They have systems like the Magnavox Odyssey 300 and 2, Nintendo's Virtual Boy, Snes, Nes, Genesis, N64 and almost anything you can think of. I do not consider this place just a store, it is a landmark and is worth a visit even if you don't buy anything. Do not listen to any of the bull that people may say about this store if they don't want to rate this store 10/5 then their most likely on PCP. Also the costumer service is so good I came back and gave the owner a cheeseburger. Lastly it's a small business that I can't help but want to support. If he was going under (which would never happen) I would save up money to help pay any expenses to help keep this store running. PS. I hate gamestop I'm never going back. read more

Having been searching for a few SNES games for a while, and never being able to find them I decided to give Game Junkie a try. Walking past you can see some great gaming culture through the window as well as some classic gaming art. AS you walk inside the door the tune from Legend of Zelda chimes in and there is some fantastic tunes from games. The store is neatly organized with tons of systems and games available. They have a fantastic selection of old to new games. I was looking for an old game (Mighty Morphin Power Rangers the Movie) that I didn't see but they offered to look in the cellar for me. They went down and searched and eventually found the game. The clerk who was there was extremely friendly and the staff loved their jobs. They were ready to help with all and any request I had. I will definitely be going back any time I need to find something. One of the best small gaming shops I've ever been to. read more

Okay so what can I say about this store called Classic Game Junkie? Well a few things come to mind. Every time I go in, the people who work there are some of the most helpful and nicest people you'll meet at a game sale business such as that place! One of the coolest things about that store is that it has retro gaming systems back to the 80's up to current! Its actually quite impressive for their store and that's why I go in so much because I can always find what I am looking for with no trouble! Also, when you need your system repaired, no matter what it is, they fix it for a very reasonable price and get it done in an amount of time that pleases the customer and makes them satisfied with no glitches to their system. UPDATE: The morning after writing a review, the owner, Frank, called up and sincerely apologized for my experience as a customer. Further more, he offered to meet me at the store later to apologize in person and turn a negative into a positive. He took the time to understand and listen as well, which is rare these days. I have to say, that this is the first time I've ever had a owner find my number and apologize for a customer experience and offer to make amends. And I also have to say that takes a humble position and true care for the customer to do so for any person. It takes great character and I really really appreciated being able to talk with him. From the moment I walked into the store, I was amazed. Classic Game Junkie has EVERYTHING from a to z, 0 to infinity, and the memories and nostalgia from my childhood just flooded back. Everything new and old can be found in this one store. It is the absolute best all-in-one gaming store I have ever come across. The staff makes you feel right at home. Even though I just visited the store for the first time a few days ago, I already feel like a regular. The atmosphere is just that welcoming, and I will definitely be coming back with friends! The owner is a great guy with a hilarious sense of humor. The selection is surprisingly diverse and trade in values are fair. I have been going to classic game junkie for over a year. In that time they have helped me restore my original NES, with all external wires and controllers. They recommended I do NOT buy a duck hunt gun because it wouldn't work on the tv I have. That saved me $. I have been able to share some of the classic game experiences with my kids. Original Zelda. Ice hockey where you have to pick your team of skinny guys, medium guys or fat guys. Et cetera et cetera. I like this store because it's run by real people. No corporate B.S. They love what they do, but hate to burst the SNES controller bubble post, yes, they are human. My wife dropped our iPad last year and smashed the glass- Frank fixed it. Yesterday I walked in and on the spot Frank replaced my iPhone glass (it was smashed, no my wife did not break it, I did this time). read more

Classic Game Junkie has one of the largest selections of retro games in the Tri-state area. They are reasonably priced and are friendly to deal with. I am an avid collector and have been to many different gaming stores, including Digital Press (Clifton, NJ), Game Zombie (Bristol, PA), Play N' Trade (Hanover, NJ) to name a few. And I must say that every time I have gone to CGJ it is like I am a kid in a candy store. I have always been satisfied with the service and love the available selection. As far as having any of my equipment serviced there I can not respond, because I have never dealt with them in this regard, however I did purchase a Sega Master System from them and it is still working great today. A very well run shop, especially for local customers but accepting of everyone. Amazing selection and variety of games and systems ranging from the PS3 to the Magnavox Odyssey! When you buy a system or older game, they will expertly repair it for you and deliver it in perfect condition. They don't mind you lurking and taking in a little history, but it's probably better if you go in with the intent to buy. And there is much to buy. If you have so much as a passing interest in video games, check out this store, it's really cool. But if you have an interest that has already passed, you can sell your old games. The only downfall I can think of is that not everyone may get along with the staff all the time or appreciate their sense of humor, but just be nice and like games and they will return the favor. Classic Game Junkie has an amazing selection of games, particularly when it comes to more obscure retro systems, including the Vectrex, Jaguar, Neo Geo and more. You can't beat the sheer amount of games they pack into the store. The staff is very laid back and friendly, and always willing to help, whether you need their advice selecting a game, or if you want to sort through their boxes and boxes of old Game Boy games. In the event that something you buy there doesn't work, Frank (the proprietor) will stop at nothing to make things right for you. This kind of customer service is rare, and this customer is very grateful for it.
