Caffe Classico has been my neighbor for years and I've always loved it's welcoming vibe. A colleague told me that they'd opened an empanada spot near my work and today I decided to try it out. As the name states, this is takeout not dine in. There are a few seats inside and out but they were all occupied when I was there, which was fine as I planned to eat elsewhere. On Tuesdays they have a 3 empandas for $10 special (each are normally $4, I think). They have a wide selection including plenty of vegetarian and at least one vegan choice. I went with the vegan mozzarella with jalapenos and a cup of gazpacho. The warm pastry was a bit crisp yet still tender. Loved the combination of flavors - it was giving jalapeno popper taste profile. Also kinda reminded me of a green chili wonton, IYKYK. I was there for it! The gazpacho was blended smooth, filled with freshness and flavor from the produce and herbs. Accompanied by a piece of delicious grilled bread, this was the perfect summer lunch! Lunch cost about $16 (with tip) but that's pretty normal for downtown, even takeout. I'd much rather have food made locally and support a small business than grab something from a chain restaurant. The empanada flavor was okay, but the dough could be improved--it needs to be flakier and crispier. It would likely taste better if it were air-fried before serving. I was also curious how long the empanadas had been sitting on display before they were sold out or restocked. The display case didn't appear to be temperature-controlled, and there were chicken empanadas included, which made me wonder about how long they had been sitting out. read more

I LOVE this place!!! It's super cute on the inside. There are a few seats inside but it's typically get them and go. When the weather is nice there are some table and seats outside as well. Three empanadas per order and they come warmed up with a dipping sauce that is delish. So many to choose from. There are breakfast ones, meat ones, and some different vegetable ones. I have not had one I didn't love! I really love this place!!!! The service is great. I highly recommend coming here. read more

This place is great. Quick and affordable. You can grab to go and they heat the empanadas up for you perfectly, or you can sit at one of their few chairs and tables. The service is very nice and helpful because there are so many options you have to ask what's in them. And they are all $4 a piece. 2 is plenty for me and my husband likes 3. Below are some of the ones I've tried in order of favorite. They all come with a said roundup in, I believe a tzatziki and a Sora hi mayo depending on what your order. Buffalo chicken - juicy, some spice, and hearty. My favorite. Gyro - very moist, almost a touch wet. Lots of flavor and very good. My husband's favorite. Chimichurri - go Jamaican Beef - plain but good. Not too dry. Portobello - flavors were fine but too wet. Chicken - least favorite, pretty plain and dry. read more

Loved this! So many options! I never thought I would see so many different empanadas. This spot was suggested for a lunchtime meal during a day working at a downtown Regus coworking location. You can mix and match the different flavors and fillings to create your perfect meal, with different dipping sauces. It is mostly for taking to-go, as there were maybe 3 small two-person tables outside and only standing bar-height spaces indoors. Came here because they had some vegan options so everyone could get something. I'm not vegan so I tired the sausage egg empanada, ham egg and cheese empanada, and the Jamaican beef patty empanada. They were hot and had a nice crust. Very delicious dough. The Jamaican beef patty empanada was my favorite of them all. The breakfast ones were good too. Only thing missing was some a dipping sauce. Yes they came with a dipping sauce, I'm not sure what it was made of but it was definitely mayo based and maybe some ketchup. Idk but it wasn't good at all. The service was nice and it's a to go place so not much of an ambiance. There was an unhoused person sitting at the tables in front of the store. Being from the South we don't see them laid out on the street much. Or maybe they are there but I'm in downtown lot . Anywho everyone was quite surprised when he sat at the table and pee'd as we' were walking out lol ! One thing I noticed is they had a C rating on the health score Thinking about it they had empanadas out on top of the counter along with some cinnamon rolls. I honestly thought they were for display and almost touched them. It was much to my surprise when I turned around and saw him place the roll on the tray to bake them . What a fantastic hidden gem! I visited for lunch today while in the area and had a difficult time deciding because everything looked amazing. There was no shortage of options. There were multiple types of meat empanadas, plus veggie and egg options, and even sweet choices. The owner was patient and kind as I pAll 3 - Buffalo chicken, mushroom pecorino, and Jamaican (beef) were winners. The tzatziki was such a nice touch as well. Found this place while scrolling on tiktok last night. 10/10 recommend. I've only had great empanadas one other place. And that is on Saint Louis. So to find some locally I knew I had to try. I absolutely love the variety they offer. Then even have a vegan option. So far I've ate the BBQ, Queso, and Jalapeño and they are all good. The queso is just cheese and the Japan is the queso with jalapeños in them. So if you love cheese like me get those. The BBQ had a good flavor and comes with BBQ dipping sauce. The gentleman serving me was very patient. It was my first time so I was overwhelmed with choices. I assume a lot of people eat here for lunch. They have a small bar inside to eat at and some outdoor seating. I will definitely be back. He did mention they will sell some frozen if you call ahead at least 24 hours in advance. read more

Saw this place on Social Media and we coming to Louisville on a visit saw had to try. Make sure you map it as it is nondescript from the outside, only a neon that says empanadas in the window. Inside is very clean and well done. There are about four seats at a window counter and about three two tables outside. The tables outside appear to be in shade most of the time they are open. Make sure to pay attention to hours of operation. Now to the empanadas: They have a great range of them. They are baked not fried which is my favorite. Baked does not leave them too greasy. Today we went with three, beef, chicken and Italian. All three were packed, no air space inside. I have had some that do from other places around the country. The beef was good. It seemed just slightly lacking enough spices that I am used too, same with the chicken. The Italian was different as it is not traditional. It was very much like a calzone. We got three on Tuesday as they have a special of three for $10. They are usually $4 each. If I lived here, I would probably be here a lot. It is a must try. How can I not give this place five stars. The empanadas were so freaking good. We saw the sign on the corner and followed our nose and ended up right inside the front door. There were a plethora of empanadas laid out ahead of us, and our mouse instantly started to water. If I would've had time, I would've tried every single one of them. We decided to settle on a beef, a chicken, a shrimp and gyro and they were all fantastic. The staff was awesome. The guy let us through his favorites. This little spot is so good! I used to work at Atria senior living and would walk a couple blocks to this location. The empanadas are made throughout the day and have so much flavor! I would highly recommend the Jamaican and the spicy pork. When you walk in there, the guy who greeted you and takes your order is the owner, who also owns Café Classico on Frankfort Ave. You can tell that he really cares about his craft and his customers, and he recognizes and thanks the customers who come in multiple times. By happenstance I came across this restaurant. Fantastic place for a quick lunch or take home meal. A variety of different flavored, hand rolled baked argentinian empanadas. I had a Gyro, spicy pork and shrimp, and Jamaican filled empanadas. Each had its own distinctive flavors and a dipping sauce. They also offer appetizers, soups, salads, paninis, Classico sandwiches, and pizzas, along with desserts. They offer specialty coffees, beer, wine, and liquor. The owner waited on me and informed me that him and his wife also own Caffe Classico on Frankfort Avenue. Another great locally owned restaurant. I had to try the new spot from Classico in downtown. It's pretty nonchalant, it's off Preston and has a small space. It's perfect to walk in and grab something to go. There's a variety of empanadas in the case when you walk in. Unfortunately, The veggie empanada was gone. The other options that I picked up for a Caprese and an egg and Sriracha. I read the menu and was sad the Tuna wasn't available. The employee then offered to make it for me. I ordered two chicken empanadas and one tuna and I was very satisfied both were amazing. What can I say, this place is simply adorable! The food is excellent and the service is tre magnifique! Seriously, it was such a GREAT find and I'm so glad to have stumbled up on it. I was staying at my friend's condo in the attached building and so happy to discover this little spot. GREAT place to grab a pizza or some empanadas. Not your run on the mill options either, very unique flavors for the empanadas. A couple of items really surprised me and left me wanting more: Spicy Thai Shrimp Pizza. It sounds so strange (shrimp on pizza?), but I have to tell you, it's outstanding. In fact, next time I'm in town, I will for sure stop and pick this up. IT's unique, got a very good kick, and somehow it just all works - on pizza. Similarly, the shrimp and pork empanada was amazing. My friends and I ordered a variety and everyone really wanted the shrimp and pork one the most because it was so dang good. Who knew? They have an excellent wine selection and a variety of delicious looking pastries as well. I can't recommend this place enough! It's small though. A unique addition to the area! We have stopped by a few times now and are always happy with our food and service. Great selection of empanadas. 3 for $12 deal is great for trying a few flavors. The spicy shrimp and pork is by far my favorite. There's also a good selection of wine and beer. Very clean and neat interior with a bit of seating if you'd like to stick around and eat. This very cool quaint cafe is serving up some awesome empanadas. They also have pizzas, sandwiches, paninis and some alcoholic options. I had three empanadas and was pleased with the selections. Chicken was my favorite, beef was a little zesty and ham and cheese was a little lacking on filling but tasty. Overall the dough was light and fluffy. They had a nice toast and were warmed just prior to serving. I would say they size was a little smaller than I would have liked and could have used a bit more filling but overall were very good. There isn't much space to eat inside so I'd recommend taking them home. They had an assortment of beer, wine and even bourbon!
