It's taken me a few days to process our experience at Claws N Paws and try and find some words. The thing i think is most important to say is, this is animal abuse. The enclosings are almost all the same. Some rocks, sticks and janky fencing. Nothing to remotely replicate their natural habitat. The landscape on the entire property is unkept. The animals are agitated and miserable. I was fearful to stand and look too long at any animal because it felt like we were upsetting them. The camel appears to be in so much distress. There are signs reassuring patrons that the animals have access to fresh water. But why wouldn't they? The female lion was limping and when i asked an employee what was wrong with her, the answer i got was "oh she's always got something going on..." I have an extreme fear of alligators and i even felt bad for them. I can't put this clearly into words but the whole experience felt wrong, scary and very uncomfortable. Upon our arrival we paid to do the giraffe feeding (poor giraffe in the tiniest enclosure) and i took my kids and left long before our scheduled time. There was no way i was hanging around for that. I am embarrassed i spent money here. This place needs to be looked into. The more time i have to process this, the more appalled i am at what i witnessed. My photos don't do it justice but i tried. I am heartbroken for the animals. I have been to so many zoo's and animal experiences, this is unlike anything i have seen. None of the animals were calm or relaxing/sleeping in any kind of protective or safe space. They were all pacing, agitated and wide awake, looking around for food or some kind of attention. I cannot recommend this experience to anyone.

Cute place. Facilities are a little older- but the animals seem well cared for and you can get so close to them. Staff were lovely. It took us about 3 hours to go through. Stroller friendly for the most part. Food was available but we didn't eat there. It's a little pricey- plus extra to feed animals- no real system for waiting to feed so we got skipped a few times by other families. But my kids didn't mind so I'm okay. Military discount available.

If you set your expectations that it's an animal park and not a zoo, it's a cute experience. We went with 4 adults and 4 kids under 4 and it took us about an hour and a half to get through everything (including an animal feed). You enter through the gift shop to pay admission - a little pricey but it is what it is (I'm glad they survived the pandemic shut down, etc.). There are a few different animal areas all along hiking type paths. Beware with an umbrella stroller, we saw a lot of uncomfortable kids. The animals are spaced out. I feel like some enclosures could have been bigger but they are well taken care of. It's no Tiger King - thank god. For $3 you can feed different animals and that was definitely worth it! Probably wouldn't come with more than 2 adults at $20 each, but if you're in the area when animal loving kids, it's a fun outdoor activity!

Great experience my daughters and nieces loved it ages 7months-13 years old. The add ons were very nice and not overly priced. I just wish there was more staff around just monitoring what guest were doing read more
We recently took a trip to Claws 'N' Paws and the kids had a great time. I think I'll just go pros and cons for this review. Pros: Jethro the giraffe was so kind and gentle. He would randomly drop down to say hello and it made our hearts melt. When feeding time came around he was the main attraction. Seeing the kids interact with him paid for the price of admission. The kids loved the cockatoo's and any other bird that would talk. Watching my five year old try to have a convo with them made us laugh. They had a lot of gorgeous animals - lynx, cute prairie dogs, male and female African lions, jags, leopards, a tiger, bobcats, etc. The Eagle Owl they had was one of my favorites. What a beautiful animal. Stunning. They have an enclosed reptile area with over a half dozen snakes, lizards and a few spiders. The bathrooms were large and kept up with for the most part. The trails were easy to follow, so I'd imagine it's hard to get lost. The staff was nice, seemed passionate and caring for the animals. Cons: Only one bathroom near the front entrance. It's not a huge park, but it would be nice to have more options. Lack of flat pathways. After days of rain there were lots of puddles and running water because the park is not totally flat. Rocks and roots are exposed so be mindful if you're not steady on your feet. Some of the animals are hard to see because the protective plastic was fogged up. May have been the temp changes. Their food area could use a face lift. They offer food for eat in but we passed and found someplace outside the park. Their retail store had a lot of items (tons of stuffed animals) but we skipped this go around. We would return. The kids enjoyed the park. We spent about two hours there and felt it was worth the money. Remember this is a small zoo in the Poconos, not a large City zoo. Thanks guys! read more

So beautiful, so well kept. The animal feedings are beyond reasonable and so fun! The staff is friendly. The facility is welcoming and clean. The animals look healthy and interact well with guests. read more
I love Claws N Paws and my family makes the 2 hour drive at least once every summer to spend the day but there are 2 issues that the park needs to address 1) over the years the erosion of some of the "roads" leading to the enclosures has been severe and someone is going to fall and get really hurt. If the park doesn't want to level those roads they need to remove the rocks and roots that make it double treacherous 2) snack bar. Ew. Gross. Just Gross. Is it so hard to step up your game when charging $4 a hot dog? In reading the other reviews on here I'm surprised at all the zoologists and animal behavior specialists that use yelp lol. If you enjoy roadside attractions this zoo is for you. read more

ANIMAL ABUSE!!! These enclosures are absolutely disgusting and this place shouldn't be open!! If you love animals you will hate this place! Also the staff is so uneducated on these animals. I'm a veterinary nursing student and I knew more. This is why it's important to learn about the animal you will be "educating" about. This place is absolutely terrible the animals are stressed and live in terribly sad conditions. If I could give negative stars I would. I hated this place with a passion!!! read more
Friendly people. Dont go in with high expectations and you'll be fine. It's fairly primitive and not super well kept, but it seems they care for the animals. The giraffe (Jethro) feeding was worth the extra $5. There's also several large cats. read more

It is a great place to bring kids. It was fun and you can picnic there and bring food. We had an excellent time. We got to feed the turtles, Gefro the giraffe and even some goats. It reminds me of when I was a kid and we would go to Catskill Game Farm. We even sat in on a show and the presenter was excellent. The little ones even got to pet a alligator. Its worth the trip. read more

This is great for a day to get out. I bought my elderly mother and my handicapped daughter. It is handicapped accessible. You have enough room to maneuver a wheel train, my mother was wabbly, the terrain is tree roots and rocks. I got my workout maneuvering through the enclosures. I pray that claws and paws can expand and make the animal enclosures bigger. It hurt my heart to see animals in such small enclosures. My daughter is in a wheelchair. The enclosures are too high for children in wheelchairs to get a good look at the animal. I didn't care to feed the animals; the lines were way too long. Didn't experience any of the shows after all that pushing the wheelchair. I couldn't wait to get out of there and get something to eat and drink. Gift shop is very nice and expensive $40 for kids' sweatshirt. I put it in my mind the money would be going for the animals. I will never go there again, unless friends are going or there are improvements made to the animal enclosures. read more

Couple with 13 year-old daughter loved the visit. Clean with well cared-for animals. It is almost like a hike as none of the pathways are paved. We like animals and especially had a good time feeding the giraffe and lori parakeets. Bring your cell phone into the bird-feeding and it will generate some memories for sure. The lion and lioness roaring was remarkable. If you're spending time in the Lake Ariel region, it is a must for virtually any age group. read more

I really enjoyed this zoo. I wish the severe thunderstorm and tornado warning didn't cut our time short but we pretty much saw all the animals. Great staff very friendly and it was nice and wooded so a completely different vibe from the zoos near our house. You can feed Jethro the giraffe and the lory birds, just purchase your tickets when you enter . If you like animals I would highly recommend this place. Thanks a bunch ! read more

I came here with my cousin for a couple hours, not expecting to see what we saw. The enclosures are far too small for most of these animals. The big ones such as the big cats and bears were obviously stressed, as they paced back and forth in their enclosure, a clear sign of a stressed animal. The monkeys looked downright depressed, some even looking like they were trying to get out of the enclosure. The badger looked sick and depressed, head to the ground but not asleep. He was shaking like something was wrong. Most of these animals just slept, because quite frankly there was no room to do anything else. I'm ashamed to have given my money to this animal prison. read more

We visited Claws and Paws on Thursday, August 29 and enjoyed seeing all the animals. The experience soured after my 9-year-old son spent his own, chore-earned money on a Shark Teeth Unearthed excavation kit at the gift shop. He was so excited to dig out what he expected to be were "natural shark teeth", as they were advertised in at least four places on the box. Much to his dismay, when he sat down to work on it today, he discovered all the shark teeth he dug out were plastic. He was incredibly disappointed, and we all felt duped by the blatant lies on the packaging. He feels he deserves his money back, and we hope you'll at least reconsider continuing to sell this misleading product to hopeful kids. read more

I don't know what zoo some of the reviewers on here went to and the expectations they had so here's my review. Yes a little pricey but you can spend the whole day there. The costs go to caring for the animals so it's worth it to me. We have been here 2x. Once with children once alone. Both times I noticed the animals were well kept and watered and fed. Both times there cages were being cleaned and they were being fed while we were there. The rustic trails were nice to walk on on a cool fall day. I thought they had big spaces to move around in their cages. We didn't eat at the snack bar and yes you start off and end up in the gift shop but you do in every family park. Again that's how they make the money they need to keep the place going. It's not the Biggest Zoo but a nice place to visit. read more

I would give it zero stars if possible. Animals kept in cramped conditions with unkept quarters. Couldn't even see thru many windows because they were so filthy. No way this place keeps gettin certified without m,only changing hand. Shut the place down and send the animals to zoos that care about their animals. read more
Wonderful little animal park! In truth, it's a small zoo with a surprisingly high number of awesome animals to view, including lions, tigers, and bears! No kidding! For a small fee, at different times, you can participate in the feeding of the giraffe, the parrots, and the goats. The gift shop is awesome, and there's a little food court to have lunch. If you're in the area, it's a great place to take the family! read more

I'm cool with claws n paws a a zoo Beautiful area a little steep with their prices BUT the boo at the zoo advertisements are misleading.. they say 10-6 so I said cool kids can go to their dance classes everything was done by 130 there was nothing for the kids that didn't skip their activities boo wise ... they were sad I mean maybe have trick or treat stations .. something for the people that came between the listed boo hours I mean ... you said it ... kids were sad animals were pacing back and forth was though they were hunting ... feeding time maybe the feline urine smell was unbearable at times I get it though .. I think We were just sad that our kids were sad I mean who throws a Halloween party and runs out of candy read more

This is animal abuse and neglect. The enclosures for these wild, mostly roaming type, animals are much too small and filthy. The animals, particularly the wild cats, appear to be lethargic and depressed. My heart broke for them. I asked one of the attendants how the animals are obtained. He had no reasonable answer. My guess is they're captured as young animals in the wild and brought to this awful, inhumane place. They should be shut down by whatever animal welfare group can get it done. Disgraceful! read more

The park is small and habits are as well, but the animals are really well taken care of. One of the senior keepers was able to pet the lion as seen in the photos I posted. Gift shop is pretty large which you enter in exit through. Feeding tokens over available in the gift shop for $3 a piece. The tokens are available in the gift shop which you can put on your credit card... But as soon as you get the park it is cash only. The kids had a great time feeding the goats and the giraffe. Definitely worth the money and time will spent! read more

What a delightful zoo! I've been to maybe 3 other zoos that I'd give 5 stars to. This zoo is well thought out, from the plexiglass to take photos and view better, to the layout of the paths in an efficient way. And the animals were mostly all out! Great petting zoo. I'd go again for sure. read more

We were on vacation from Hershey Pa. Not to far away. We decided to find somethings to do with our 2yr old, and let me tell you. This place should be shut down and not allowed to house any animals. The living environments they have the animals in are horrendous, most have no water in their cage, and almost all of them had no where near the proper space for them to live the life's they deserve. This place made me sad to see these beautiful animals suffer. The artic fox could barely walk. Most animals were lathargic & looked dehydrated or very stresses. They have so much land there is no reason they can't enlarge the enclosures. They will be reported and hopefully something is done. If anyone wants to go to a 10000x better place and not to far of a drive check out Tobias wild life park. THEY'RE cheaper, more animals, BETTER LIVING FOR ALL THEIR ANIMALS & safari open bus ride. And all for less money, not to mention they would never charge an adult price for a 2 yr old, or 3$ for 1 apple slices to feed birds that is crazy..... The place stank like a homeless village in the middle of death valley. Please help get this place shut down or forced to upgrade there enclosures. On a side note the staff we encountered were very pleasant. read more

I went here with my family today, and it was a terrible experience. We ended up feeling depressed and leaving early. My son was upset and couldn't understand why the animals were living in these conditions. There were river otters in a tiny little hovel, two panicked looking bears who had just arrived. None of the animals had adequately sized or maintained enclosures. They didn't all have indoor space to retreat to. They had captive beavers and foxes and otters and ground hogs and hawks and vultures. What's the point of that? These animals live in the wild here. The big cats did not have enough space. None of the animals looked well nourished. I could see the male lion's spine. I've read many reviews on Facebook in which people worry what will happen to the animals if the place is closed (it has many many violations of the Animal Welfare Act against it). There are many good animal sanctuaries in America, some accredited by the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries. These best thing for these animals is to find their way to sanctuaries and zoos where they will be better cared for. It was upsetting to see all these animals kept this way. I'm sure the people at Claws N Paws are trying to do their best, but their best is not good enough. If I had known how disturbing my family and I would find Claws N Paws, I would have taken my tourist dollars elsewhere. Unfortunately, our visit today helped keep Claws N Paws in business, and it really shouldn't be. read more

My family went on a long summer weekend in the Pocanos and we needed something to do on a colder day so we decided to check this out. What an awesome, magical place. My five year old twins (and mom and dad) had the best time. The animals were more impressive than some at a big city zoo and they were obviously well cared for. We would have spent twice the amount for the experience but please keep your prices as is! read more

This place is AWESOME! My girl friend and I brought our two sons, ages 3.5 and 9, they both had a blast. All the animals are friendly, all visible on our trip. There are staff members walking around with animals, asking you if you want to pet them. You are able to pet and feed giant tortoises. There are a lot of different animals and exhibits! Lots of animals to feed and pet. We got a kiss from a giraffe while on this trip. I would absolutely come again. It's so cool cause it's woodsy and you actually feel like you're a part of nature. All the animals look well fed and happy. We spent 3 hours here. I could see this being an all day thing if you want to see all the shows but we arrived late in the day when it's not too crowded. read more
The Poconos are famous for their pristine ski slopes, posh resorts, and off the beaten path gift shops. People from all over New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut and other states come to vacation in the Poconos year round. A zoo packed with exotic animals is definitely not what most people think of in Northeastern PA. However, Claws N Paws is a great way for a family (or a group of people any age for that matter!) to spend the day. The park has giraffes, exotic cats, foxes, otters, bears, and many other animals. The fencing allows you to get super close to the animals, which allows for some great photo ops! At 13$ for adults and 9$ for children, the price can't be beat. Just eat before you go - the menu at the snack bar consists of hot dogs with various toppings or some "chili"... I use the term chili very very loosely. read more

Claws N' Paws Animal Park is overall scary, sad, and flat out horrendous. The walkway is not paved and very difficult to walk with stroller or children. The animals did not seem lively at all. The majority of the wildlife were kept in cramped habitats surrounded by dirt only. The alligators alone were only given what can best be described as a kiddie pool which did not fit a single one in length (it's tail was curved alongside of the pool), PLUS there were two in this small enclosure. The wolves were given a home the size of a medium dog cage. It was outrageous, I WOULD NOT recommend this establishment, nor would I return. read more

OKAY, I have too much to say about this place, please take my word for this review. If you want to take your kids here think twice please, im a 9 year old nature lover writing this, acknowledge that! First of all, the animals were either overfed or underfed, which you can clearly see. All of the animals looked like they wanted to die rather than being here, all they did was sleep, they even looked concerned. The activities are fine, thats it. Now lets talk about the animals, my biggest concern was the camel, it was just one in a tiny empty fence and shed, IT WAS FOAMING from the mouth. All of the birds were just staring, a snow leopard had KNOTS in its fur and was really fat, it barely moved, (it was born there so it never got to be wild at all, just in a tiny cage 24/7 ). the wolves were really skinny, the bears weren't moving either, and all the smaller animals (capybara, fennec fox, etc ). Were all grouped together. One of the workers at the otter area was cleaning the TINY pond they live in and the otter was screeching at her, that is a red flag of abuse. she didnt do anything about it. The turtles, there were two separate ones because one was tortoises and one were turtles, the turtle one, they were just close to eachother and didnt Move. THE SNAPPING TURTLE, was nearby them but it was in an EXTREMELY SHALLOW and TINY "pond" enclosure, didnt move AT ALL! Alligators were just watching us with their eyes popping out of the water. Lets talk about how clean it is, you may be thinking "well maybe the place is clean, right?" NOPE. NO NO NO everywhere was spider webs and PURE FLIES, for example the bridge tube watching thing for the mountan lion and the leopard. the bathrooms may just be the dirtiest bathroom you have EVER seen. My mom also told me that the employees were really rude. If you wanna get a drink, theres no lid, no straws and in a pepsi cup. Wow. Very "impressive". Theres no service there and the path is crazy, my baby sister kept falling down because of the rocks, the adults dont realise the abuse this zoo is doing to the poor animals. I barely find it as a zoo. Please don't buy anything from this place because your supporting them, this is a big problem, lots of zoos and aquariums abuse these innocent cuties that never had a chance to have an at least decent life. Thanks for reading! read more

Okay, so hear me out (or read me out in this case) ... the price we paid for this visit was not so bad. The zoo is not huge but it is decently sized with a variation of animals and things to see. The paths are definitely more "natural" so just watch your, and your children's, every step. So here are my major concerns about this Zoo, as I have been to quite a few others in my lifetime, and bare with me. The animals at this Zoo did not seem to be very lively. I get that they are wild animals locked in cages but some of these "homes" for them were definitely not made for their size or needs to roam about. We saw a porcupine pacing around in circles, clearly in distress. There were leopards, jaguars, a lynx, and some other animals (mainly mammals who are more capable of emotions such as anxiety and stress) who were so put off that they were in the farthest end of their "habitat cage" away from us, humans. We felt horribly for them and about ourselves after having seen their sadness. Overall, I could only bring myself to give this Zoo three out of five stars. read more

My family and I visited Claws 'N Paws Outdoor Zoo yesterday, and we had a fantastic experience! We have a 17-month-old and a 13-year-old, and it can be challenging to find activities that both ages enjoy, but this zoo was a hit for everyone. The animals were well cared for, the grounds were clean, and there were plenty of opportunities to get up close and interact with the animals. The staff was friendly and helpful, making the experience even more enjoyable. Our toddler loved seeing all the different animals, while our teenager had a great time exploring the exhibits and learning about the wildlife. We spent most of the day there and never felt rushed or bored. It's a great family-friendly destination in the Poconos, and we highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fun and memorable day with their family. We will definitely be back! Vincent read more

These poor animals are living under such horrible conditions since the "humans" here do NOT care! Some animals have NO water and if you tell them, they just say they'll get water later. Also, there is not enough room for these beautiful, precious animals! It is very dirty, too! This place should be shut down and these animals should be put in a place that affords them comfortable, spacious living quarters!! Obviously, there are no laws in place for these helpless creatures. I would NOT visit this place again!! Just a bunch of ignorant, uncaring people, who do not have a love for animals. So sad for these animals! read more

Perplexed by the good reviews...I saw neglect, sadness and boredom in these poor caged animals. There were wet ,muddy enclosures full of holes. That is just one of many horrific observations. There are a lot of events through out the day there. We feed some birds and a giraffe also pet some turtles and they had a educational presentation.
